s the stress and strain getting you down? Stiff neck? Tight muscles? Not enough hours in the day? Sound familiar? All that technology was supposed to make things easier, right? Well, maybe. But it also has produced seemingly non-stop messages that arrive in enormous numbers via email, Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, Linked-in, etc., etc., and whatever the latest new high tech means of communication produces. For even the most technologically gifted and dedicated, it can sometimes be just too much! Caring Touch A little time for quiet can do wonders, and the handson benefits of massage have been known for centuries. Soothing tired or aching muscles, head and back aches, stiff necks, and the like are major benefits, and massage can also be a great stress reliever. An hour of
quiet serenity can often reduce the anxiety and worry over that ever present “To Do” list. “One of my clients says she is so grateful for the loving, caring, touch of massage. It’s her time for relaxation and meditation,” says Zhanna Root, owner with Max Chernyshov of Ultimum Vitae Wellness Center at 264 Nassau Street. Opened in April, it offers a range of services, including massage therapy, nutrition, and fitness. “We are establishing a wellness program, with the services of a nutritionist, chiropractor, and fitness exper t,” explains Zhanna, who is a licensed massage therapist in New Jersey and Pennsylvania, with additional training in anatomy and pathology. “Over the years, I have seen that one approach is not enough. You need to eat right and exercise too. We will also offer a meditation program on Tuesday
and Thursday from 8 a.m. to 8:30.” Zhanna notes that “present time consciousness” or being in the moment is not only beneficial to her clients when they are experiencing a massage but also for her. “Giving a massage benefits me too. When I am giving a massage, I have to be present, be in the moment. I am totally ‘there’ in that moment.” Optimal Functioning Deep tissue massage is Zhanna’s specialty, and this can help clients in a variety of ways, she explains. “This is a type of massage therapy that focuses on realigning deeper layers of muscles and connective tissue. It can help relieve certain common physical problems and bring the body back to optimal functioning. It helps with whatever problem they have, including restoring muscle balance, and helps clients get in touch with their body and build their muscles. I
HANDS-ON-HELP: “Major benefits of massage therapy include pain relief, such as headache and jaw pain, and help for tight neck muscles. It can also release tension and create relaxation. We love to see people improve and get better.” Max Chernyshov and Zhanna Root, owners of Ultimum Vitae Wellness Center, look forward to introducing clients to their new wellness program. Clients in a hurry can also enjoy a beneficial 15-minute chair massage (chairs shown at right).

I also use organic oils, including almond, coconut, and macadamia. “We also teach mothers how to do infant massage. It’s the first communication with babies, and is so important.” Zhanna reports that clients include all ages and b ot h m e n a n d wom e n. “Many of my clients are professional men. They work all day on computers, and it takes a toll on the body. Many women also spend a lot of time on computers, and have the same problems. It is really important to take some time out for yourself and allow a professional to help you.” In addition to the deep tissue massage therapy, Ulti-

People are so relaxed afterward that even their faces look more relaxed!” On-Site Ultimum Vitae also offers 15 minute chair massages to help relieve tight muscles in the neck and back. “These are great stress relievers for people at the office,” reports Zhanna. “They are typically 15 minutes, are done fully clothed, and can be on-site at the client’s office. Join us in supporting a greener Mercer County at the fourth Terhune Orchards’ annual Farm to Table Fun(d)raisers. This year’s celebration, held at Terhune Orchards on Thursday, July 23, from 5-9 p.m., will benefit the Green Teams and sustainability organizations of Mercer County. The event will feature ingredients from local farms prepared by the well-known chefs from the Terra Momo Restaurant Group and the Bent Spoon, celebrating the local food movement and promoting awareness about county-wide sustainability efforts, while raising money to fund them under the auspices of the Mercer County Sustainability Coalition. The Mercer County Sustainability Coalition is an alliance of Green Teams and sustainability organizations. Formed in 2013 from the nascent irregular meetings of the various green teams and organizations around Mercer County, the Coalition works to promote a regional and collaborative approach to

sustainability initiatives. Environmental issues know no regional boundaries. From our rivers and streams, to our air quality, to transportation, to trash and recycling issues, these are common to all of the municipalities within a region. It simply makes sense to promote sustainability regionally and to tackle issues together. By uniting, coalition members can become greater than the sum of their individual parts. Members of the Coalition have collaborated on the Living Local Expo, the region’s annual “green fair” which was originally spearheaded by Sustainable Lawrence eight years ago and runs each March was a Food Waste Recycling event in October of 2014. With limited funding to support their activities, the proceeds of this year’s Farm to Table Fun(d) raiser will enable them to reach out to a larger segment of county residents and plan initiatives and education on a larger scale. Guest will enjoy cocktails and a five-course meal made from New Jersey ingredients and paired with Terhune Orchards’ own award-winning wines. Live music will be performed by the popular Riverside Band, a local five-piece acoustic string group. Diners will be treated to an overview of each course by the chef that prepared it, as well as an explanation of its wine pairing by Gary Mount of Terhune Orchards and diners will be sent home with local produce grown right on the farm. Terhune Orchards is at 330 Cold Soil Road. Cocktails will be served starting at 5 p.m. and dinner begins at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are $100 per person or $150 per couple and can be purchased at www.mercersus tainabilitycoalition.wordpress. com/farmtotable. ———
