SANJAY KAMAT, DO Dr. Sanjay Kamat is a longtime native to Bucks County for over 30 years, moving here with his family while in the first grade. He graduated in the top of his class at Pennsbury to go on to Pennsylvania State University where he completed a B.S. in Premedicine, serving as the President of Premedical Honor Society as well. He also received his M.S. in Physiology at Penn State. He taught Anatomy and Physiology at the collegiate level at Penn State University, Widener University, Community College of Philadelphia, and even more locally at Bucks County Community College. Dr. Kamat then attended medical school in Kansas City, Missouri at Kansas City University of Medicine and Biosciences. He then came back home to Philadelphia to complete his internship and ophthalmology residency at Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine, where he served as Chief Resident. Dr. Kamat worked at Albert Einstein Medical Center in Philadelphia for nearly seven years, gaining invaluable experience in complicated cataract, oculoplastic trauma, and anterior segment surgery. He served as one of the ophthalmologists for Moss Rehabilitation Hospital. Dr. Kamat has spoken on different subjects on the local and national level. He has chaired and co-chaired a number of national meetings for the American Osteopathic College of Ophthalmology. Dr. Kamat is board certified and a fellow of the American Osteopathic College of Ophthalmology. He is a clinical instructor at the prestigious Wills Eye Institute in Philadelphia and is also the ophthalmologist for the Cancer Treatment Centers of America’s Northeast Regional Center in Philadelphia. He is also on staff at St. Mary’s Medical Center in Langhorne, PA, Aria Bucks County Campus in Langhorne,PA and Campus Eye Group in Hamilton, NJ. Dr. Richard C. Staller, of Princeton Periodontics & Implants, sat down with Princeton Magazine to reflect on his nearly 30 years of treating periodontal disease and placing dental implants. EH: “What have you enjoyed most about being in Practice?” RS: “One of the best aspects of my practice is the relationships I’ve built, not only with my patients, but with the community of dentists in our area. This is a direct result of working together to treat patients and from our study club, The Princeton Group for Dental Excellence.” EH: “What are the advantages of dental implants?” RS: “Today we can replace missing or failing teeth to full function with dental implants. Dental Implants have given patients confidence in their smile and their ability to eat. Patients who have been suffering with periodontal disease for many years may be able

to replace their teeth in a day…they walk out of my office with an instant smile, supported by dental implants.” EH: “Why should patients be concerned about periodontal disease?” RS: “Periodontal disease is a major cause of tooth loss. There is mounting evidence that suggests that periodontal disease may increase a patients risk for heart disease, diabetes, thyroid disease, and rheumatoid arthritis. Healthy gums play a vital role in maintaining a healthy body and the overall well-being of our patients.” EH: “Tell us about your general philosophy of treatment.” RS: “My philosophy is to treat the whole patient. There is a person attached to those teeth and to that end, I work closely with the dentist and other members of the medical community to develop an overall treatment plan for each patient. I’m also constantly searching for new technologies that will improve the patient’s health. When I learn about something new that has substantial evidence of success, I have the ability to bring it to our patients. That is exciting to me and my referring dentists. And when the results of our work are closely the same as permanent healthy teeth, we restore a patient’s confidence and self esteem. That, above all, is why I practice.”
