Real WNY Love Story

Married

June 22nd, 2013 at Meghan’s childhood home in East Aurora, followed by a reception at the Roycroft Power House.

Diy Elements

“The bridesmaids and I made the button bouquets and boutonnieres over the course of several months. Family and friends gave most of the buttons to me. I incorporated a few buttons given to me by my aunt that belonged to two of my great-grandmothers. Family has always been very important to me so having their buttons with me on my wedding day was very special. As our gift to the guests we decided to rent a vintage photobooth. The guests were encouraged to add strips of photos to our scrapbook as well as take them home for a keepsake.”

Vintage Inspiration

“Our inspiration was a combination of rustic and industrial motifs for the setting, incorporating vintage elements in the wardrobe and décor. I knew that I wanted a shorter dress that had a vintage feel, and Kevin wanted to keep his look simple and classic with a nice black suit with a gingham shirt and a slim black tie.”

Best Memories

“We decided to take photos at the house but also along historic Main Street in East Aurora, NY. We stopped at Vidlers and the Aurora Theatre. Unbeknownst to us, my parents had rented the marquee to celebrate the big day! We were so surprised and excited since both of us are huge movie buffs.”

Gold Mica Candles What You’ll Need:

Pillar Candles or Candlesticks / Craft Glue / Small Gold Mica Flakes / Paint Brush

Paint a thin layer of craft glue on a small area of the candle. Use tweezers or fingers to place mica on glue and press lightly to secure. Continue around candle until desired look. When dry, shake excess mica off candle. Suggestions For a nice, straight line, use painters tape around the candle. If the craft glue is too thick, water it down and use a paint brush. Ombre looks great on these candles! View More DIY inspiration on our website!

Hand-Dyed Napkins What You’ll Need:

Natural Muslin / Colorful Fruits and Vegetables / Salt / Large Pot

Pre-wash and pre-soak fabric. Chop food into small pieces. Add 8 cups water to 4 cups food. Boil for 1 hour and strain out food. Add 1/2 cup of salt. Dip pre-soaked fabric into dye to desired height. Gradually remove fabric from dye leaving the bottom in the longest for the ombre effect. Hand wash in cold water, hang to dry and iron if needed.

Driftwood Chandelier What You’ll Need:

Pieces of Driftwood / Embroidery Hoop / Thin Florist Wire / Lace Ribbon / Wildflowers / String / Glue / Paint

Use your creativity with this project! Choose a color that compliments your flowers, and paint the embroidery hoop. Once dry, use thin wire to wrap pieces of driftwood until secure and attach to embroidery hoop, making sure to balance the weight evenly. Once driftwood is attached, fill in blank areas by gluing lace to the inside of the hoop. For a fresh look, attach inverted wildflowers immediately before your event. DIY Designs by Vintage Touch

Real WNY Love Story

High School Sweethearts

“Our relationship started in high school. We met when we were 16 and just clicked on so many levels. We made each other laugh and that was, and still is, so important to us. We went to college at Kent State University. After college we moved home to Jamestown, where Tim later proposed, in our first apartment together. He woke me up early in the morning on October 30th and simply asked me to spend forever with him; it was perfect and so was the antique ring.“

Wedding Day

“We chose our venue to be the Ellicottville Brewing Company on November 1st, which happened to be All Saints’ Day. We love craft beer, and the brewery is so beautiful, so the choice was easy. They gave us the creative freedom from the menu to the decor and that was exactly what we were looking for. We decided to serve an array of our favorite foods like grilled cheese with tomato soup, mahi mahi tacos and macaroni and cheese, followed by creme brûlée, italian cookies, and, of course, wedding cake!”

43

Uniquely Rustic

“Tim and I made every planning decision together, with our families. We didn’t just want it to be just about us; we wanted our friends and family to have an amazing time too. We knew we wanted to mix old with new, so we used antlers, lavender, books, doilies and candles to create a romantic, vintage, and rustic style. With the creative help of my mom, sister, and countless estate sales, we created the perfect wedding.”

Forever Together

“We live in Buffalo now with our dog Gypsi and spend our time enjoying the simple things. We embarked on a trip to Costa Rica for our honeymoon, and it triggered a new found love for traveling, which we have made a vow to do every year.”

Real WNY Love Story

Married

October 4th, 2014 at The Tralf Music Hall in Buffalo, NY. “Courtney is from Long Island and we met on her first night out in Buffalo. She fell in love with more than just the city! We decided this would be the place where we planted our roots. We wanted our day to be a representation of Buffalo. It was important to us that our friends and family from out of town experienced our city, food, and culture. We wanted them to see that we’re more than just unfortunate sport teams and bad weather. With chicken wings, beef on weck, Mighty Taco and Paula’s donuts at the reception, we did just that.”

61

Our Own Traditions

“The last thing we wanted was a traditional wedding. Courtney and I got ready with our bridesmaids and moms before the wedding. We wanted to cherish those moments together rather than separating the group. A traditional venue was never a consideration, so we sat down with the owners of an old jazz club in downtown Buffalo, the Tralf Music Hall. They were very accommodating to whatever crazy ideas we had. We were the first people to ever get married right on their stage. We didn’t have a seating chart or a sit down dinner. Our guests ate what they wanted, where they wanted and when they wanted. Our ceremony was after our cocktail hour, our aisle was a dance floor, surrounded by cool lighting and a huge bar, and our night was absolutely perfect.”

Diy

“Our colors were lavender, orange, and yellow. We DIY’ed just about everything including our center pieces, donut and candy bar, and card box. We displayed photos of Courtney and I on a 6 panel door with raw wooden frames hanging with burlap. My sister, a graphic designer that focuses on weddings and party planning, made all our invites, signs, tags, and thank you cards as unique as we are. I felt like I spent every night for a few months with a glue gun, ribbons, and fabric flowers and of course, a lot of wine! The night before the wedding, we enlisted some help from our friends and played old school Nintendo and crafted our center pieces and gift bags for the out of town guests.”

Feather backdrop What You’ll Need:

Loose White Feathers / Quill Feathers / Acrylic Paint / Sponge Brushes / White Tulle Fabric

Select the number of feathers you would like to color and start by brushing tips lightly with paint. While feathers dry, hang tulle fabric to the wall, or over a backdrop stand and begin sticking feather ends into the tulle. Make sure you insert the feather into the fabric enough so they stay put! Once your colored feathers are dry, add them to your backdrop at random or get creative with a pattern!

Glass & Saucer Stands What You’ll Need:

Various Sized Milk Glass Containers / Craft Glue / Mismatched Tea Cup Saucers

Choose which tea cup saucer you want on which milk glass container, then apply a layer of glue to the base of the saucer where it will be adhered to the milk glass. Let dry. Suggestions Local thrift shops have tons of different styled milk glass vases and containers as well as tea cups! Be sure to choose a good variety of heights when selecting your milk glass.

Customized Toppers What You’ll Need:

Cardstock / Scissors or Craft Knife / Wooden Skewer Sticks / Computer / Printer

On the computer, create an adorable banner or element that goes with your wedding theme. If that freaks you out, don’t panic! There are many downloadable templates to choose from on various sites like Pinterest or Etsy. Personalize it by adding your colors, your names and wedding date to the banner. Print on cardstock, cut out and glue to the skewers before placing on the top of your cake. View More DIY inspiration on our website!
