Speaker bio: Ufuoma Akpojivi

Dr. Ufuoma Akpojivi is an Associate Professor at the Media Studies Department, University of Witwatersrand, South Africa. He holds a PhD in Communication Studies from the University of Leeds, United Kingdom and a Postgraduate Diploma in Higher Education from the University of Witwatersrand. His research interests include citizenship and activism, new media, media policy and democratization, and language politics. He is a Fellow of the African Humanities Programme and a recipient of the ViceChancellor and Faculty of Humanities individual teaching and learning award (2017), and the Friedel Sellschop Research Award (2021).
