Speaker bio: Avril Joffe

Avril Joffe is the former Head and current Post Graduate Coordinator of the Cultural Policy and Management Department at the Wits School of Arts. She is an economic sociologist working at the intersection of academia and practice in fields such as culture in urban life, culture and the cultural economy in realizing a just and sustainable development, fairness in international cultural cooperation and the rights and status of artists and cultural professionals. Avril obtained her MPhil in Development Studies at the Institute of Development Studies, Sussex University (1988) and has completed the Diploma in Education in the field of Higher Education (2019) and the Facilitating Online Course (2020) at Wits University. Her current research project considers the affordances of writing intensive post graduate courses in Cultural Policy and Management.
