MMED/ MDENT, MSc, and PhD research grants from the Medical Faculty Research Endowment Fund (MFREF), which supports mainly postgraduate students
The amount of funding available for disbursement in 2022 will be dependent on the allocated budget from the University and the FRO.
Applicants are eligible for funding for Masters degrees within the first 2 years from the date of first registration, for MMeds within 2 years following the Postgraduate Committee approval of the protocol, and for PhDs within the first 3 years if full-time and within the first 4 years if part-time

Connective Tissue Diseases Research Fund
The value is at the discretion of the Committee and ranges from R10 000 – R35 000

General travel, travel for conferences, field trips and data collection are excluded

Where tenable Faculty of Health Sciences, its Affiliated teaching hospitals, and National Health Laboratory Services Conditions open only to full-time Wits staff, NHLS staff, joint staff and postgraduate students researchers with an interest in Autoimmune Rheumatic Diseases to apply for funding.

The fund will support research in either clinical or laboratory aspects of rheumatic diseases, preference being given to the following conditions: Rheumatoid Arthritis Scleroderma Systemic Lupus Erythematosus
