Witte de Withs Melanchotopia is een tentoon stelling waarvoor meer dan veertig inter nationale kunstenaars zijn uitgenodigd te werken met uiteenlopende locaties in de binnenstad van Rotterdam – plaatsen waar wordt geleefd en gewerkt.

Van grootschalige interventies tot zeer een voudige gebaren, Melanchotopia toont ideeën en werken op een manier die verder gaat dan de klassieke kunstroute. Het werk wordt onderdeel van de stad en onthult een stukje van haar bewoners en gebruikers.

Gedurende de tentoonstelling en daarna tot 31 december is Witte de Withs tentoonstellings ruimte het epicentrum van Melanchotopia. Hier is meer informatie te vinden over alle deel nemende kunstenaars en hun projecten voor de verschillende locaties van de tentoonstel ling. Een aantal kunstwerken en installaties is ook in het epicentrum te zien.

From large-scale interventions to very sim ple gestures, Melanchotopia presents a range of artistic practices that go beyond the classical approach to displaying art in public space. Working with the existing dynamics of the city, Witte de With’s inten tion is to investigate and reveal the multiple layers of daily life in Rotterdam. Iedere woensdag en zondag om 15:00 vinden er vanuit Witte de With gratis rondleidingen door de tentoonstelling plaats. Reserveren is niet nodig. Voor groepen van 10 tot 15 personen kan altijd een rondleiding worden geboekt voor € 60,— via reservations @ wdw.nl. Groepen betalen de toegangsprijs met korting.

Tuesday through Sunday 11:00 – 18:00 (closed on Mondays). Please note that the participating venues have their own opening hours.

Every Wednesday and Sunday at 15:00 there are free guided tours through the exhibition, starting from Witte de With. No reservation necessary. For groups of 10 to 15 people you can book a tour any time for € 60 via reservations @ wdw.nl. Groups pay the discounted admission price.

De audiotour laat de luisteraar stil staan bij het hier en nu van de stad en de persoonlijke be leving van haar bewoners en gebruikers. Naast een enkele tentoonstellingslocatie ontgint de audiotour nieuw terrein, waar opmerkelijke stadsverhalen verscholen liggen. Bij deze locaties (aangegeven op de plattegrond) zijn QR-codes aangebracht om ter plekke audio clips te kunnen downloaden. De clips zijn ook te downloaden op www.wdw.nl en in het epi centrum is tegen betaling van een borgsom een leentoestel met audiotour af te halen. Let op: neem voor het lenen van een toestel een geldig legitimatiebewijs mee.

Witte de With, Center for Contemporary Art presenteert de nieuwste ontwikkelingen in de hedendaagse kunst aan het publiek door middel van tentoonstellingen, theoretische en educatieve programma’s, publieksevenemen ten en publicaties. Het centrum is een alter natief voor de meer traditionele musea voor moderne en hedendaagse kunst, kunstenaars initiatieven en commerciële galeries. Witte de With is daarnaast ook opdrachtgever en pro ducent van nieuwe kunstwerken en heeft in de afgelopen twintig jaar een breed netwerk van betrokken personen en instellingen om zich heen verzameld.

The audio tour enables you to experience the immediacy of the city, to tap into the personal experiences of its inhabitants and other users. In addition to several exhibi tion locations, the audio tour will lead you to discover new places and reveal remarkable urban stories. At these spots (marked on the map) you will find a QR-code for download ing specially commissioned audio clips. It is also possible to download these clips from www.wdw.nl or to borrow a MP3-player from Witte de With to accompany you on your visit. (MP3-players available on payment of a returnable deposit. Witte de With Center for Contemporary Art presents the latest developments in contem porary art worldwide through exhibitions, theoretical and educational programs, public events and publications. It is an alternative to the classic museum of modern and con temporary art, existing artists’ initiatives and commercial galleries. Witte de With also commissions and produces new works of art and has developed a large network of people and organizations involved in its activities over the past twenty years.
