School learners to gain financial literacy skills
CITIZEN Leader Lab were delighted to host the Xhuma Programme, a financial literacy project run by International Master’s students from the Swiss-based University of St Gallen.
During the second week of February the “Xhumites” delivered fun, interactive finance workshops to the Grade 8 and Grade 9 learners of Iincinga Zethu Secondary School in Nduli, Ceres.

Iincinga Zethu Secondary School is one of over 1 700 schools part of the Citizen Leader Lab’s flagship leadership development programme, Partners for Possibility.
Since 2012, Xhuma has improved the lives of children in South Africa by teaching them financial literacy skills. During the Xhuma workshops, Iincinga Zethu learners were taught the fundamentals of financial literacy through an interactive, entertaining but impactful “Money Game”
This game introduces several concepts of financial literacy, such as income, expenses, investments, saving and spending money on “fun stuff”. Its goal is to create consciousness and awareness around financial matters in an interactive way that encourage the participants to be protective.
Grade 11 learners will also participate in a mentoring programme set up in partnership with the University of Cape Town Investment Society.
The “Xhumites” also had the opportunity to meet with local Business Leaders and visited a few of the local businesses and farms around Ceres:
- Lisa Louw, the Tasting Room Manager at Loxtonia Cider welcomed the group where they enjoyed a cider tasting,
- Hennie van Noordwyk, the Operations Manager at Koelfontein Estate and Yvette Enslin at @Source Handmade Foods Pty Ltd, joined the group on a visit to the Estate and Factory,
- Chrisna du Toit, Business Leader in partnership with principal Johannes Pieters at Kromlin PS, welcomed the group at the school, ECD and after-care centre, where the students had the opportunity to engage with the children, the visit were concluded with the students doing some sightseeing around the farm and the orchards where they enjoyed the pear and nectarines picking,
- The week were wrapped up with a visit to Bella Frutta Packhouse, welcomed by Thinus van Niekerk.

INSPECTION OF GENERAL VALUATION ROLL AND LODGING OF OBJECTIONS
Notice is hereby given that the General Valuation Rolls, for the financial years 1 July 2023 until 30 June 2028, lies open for public inspection in terms of section 49(1)(a)(i) of the Municipal Property Rates Act 6 of 2004 (the Act), at the various municipal offices and at www.witzenberg.gov.za from 17 February 2023 until 31 March 2023
In terms of section 49(1)(a)(ii) of the Act, any owner or person may lodge an objection with the Municipal Manager on any matter reflected in, or omitted from the abovementioned valuation rolls, within the prescribed period. In terms of section 50(2) of the Act an object must be in relation to a specific individual property and not against the valuation rolls as such.
Forms for lodging objections are obtainable at the various municipal offices and at www.witzenberg.gov.za
Completed objection forms must reach the Municipality before or on 6 April 2023
