With a passion for creativity and a true gift for arranging visual elements in works of art, Cornell Jones shares his artistic abilities with the world as a cartoonist, photographer, graphic designer, and visual artist. Born in Memphis, Tennessee, his fascination with animation, comic books, and manga began as a young child. Taking notice of the works of Akira Toriyama, Tite Kubo, Stan Lee, and Chuck Jones, he challenged himself to produce pieces of art using objects, faces, and figures. While attending Bolton High School his talents were noticed and respected by many, which heightened his desire to pursue a formal education in fine arts. In May of 2017, Cornell graduated magna cum laude from Southwest Tennessee Community College. where he received an Associate of Applied Science degree in Graphic Arts - Multimedia Production. As CEO of WizKidd Studios, Cornell continues to use his amazing skillset to reach and inspire those who appreciate seeing life through the lens of creativity.
PHOTOGRAPHY Photography, to me, is endless emotion. The emotion that is portrayed in a photograph says a lot about the mind of the photographer. This project started off as an assignment for a digital photography class. Every photo I took was ordained by my professor, but with every snap of the camera I began to notice the tone of the environment in every photo. It was as if the camera was telling a story. These photos show my abstract idealistic view of the world. In other words, the camera portrays my reality.
CARTOON SKETCHES Cartoons brought me an escape as a child, a chance to free myself from the horrors of the world. As I grew into an adult, my views changed and I began to want the reverse. Rather than escaping, I wanted to run toward my imagination and drag the horrors of the world with me in an effort to change the world. Cartoons provided a different way of viewing reality, which opened my mind to a new world of possibilities. Now, every cartoon I make includes a piece of my reality in an effort to show others the
ways and possibilities of coping with reality. Most of the adults I’ve come to know despise cartoons. I think that is the result of forsaking their own imagination and submitting to their worst realities. Artists like Akira Toriyama (anime/Dragonball) and Stan Lee (Marvel Comics) gave me the motivation to not only strive to be like them, but to be better. I hope that one day my cartoons will inspire another the same way.
DIGITAL DESIGNS When it comes to graphic design, my heart skips a beat. I see so many vibrant colors and opportunities to bring my art from great to legendary, which makes me want to constantly learn more about graphic design. Design provides the platform to do more with my cartoons and photos, as well as other visual elements. What motivates me most is the dream of entrepreneurship and the reality of seeing my work on billboards and in other
prominent places where they will reach the world. Graphics and digital prints are key to making that dream a reality. Design is incorporated into so much of the world today that technology hinges on it greatly. I am currently pursuing more innovative ways to improve or construct objects to become one a designer who inspires people!
