Individual Contribution Lead designer in SD Phase, Concept brainstorm, 3D modeling, renderings, client communications, project coordinations. Media CAD, Illustrator, Rhino, Maxwell, Photoshop Time 2014-2015 The Shanghai Qingpu Xujing Convention Center #3 site exists within a larger framework of the Qingpu District, characterized as an area in transition, from low density residential land to a highly urbanized commercial and transportational hub for metropolitan Shanghai. As a response to its emerging urban identity, the project occupies a significant role as the center of the greater Hongqiao financial hub. At the west end, commercial buildings and a hotel, nestled within an urban open plaza setting, serve to represent the needs of an urban lifestyle. Further east, the core of the project site is comprised of a series of buildings that amount to one singular flower/petal theme. By adstracting the significance of the flower as a life-giving force, THE OCEAN concept compliments and builds upon this idea by connecting the flower theme to another source of life, THE OCEAN. THE OCEAN acts as a metaphorical fountain of knowledge and youth, promoting an ocean of ideas, and engendering the free flow of thought and innovation by creating a series of different but unified sub-concepts: FALL, RIPPLE, GLIDE, and WAVE. THE OCEAN shapes and is shaped by its surroundings, creating a reflexive relationship with the buildings and landscape that surround it. The waters of the Ocean mix and weave, drawing strength from the project’s center, anchoring the site with a strong signature experience, simultaneously offering some variety in its for zones. The Ocean is alive with motion: Wave, Glide, Ripple and Fall.
Fall ç€‘ĺ¸ƒ As an abstracted waterfall, the landscape represents the rigorous and ceaseless activity necessary for innovative breakthroughs. The waters at the Fall zone are animated by free-falling water segments at each water terrace. The Falls are positioned to maximize and create sounds visual sub compositions. Each fall is allowed to create an elegant, glassy effect to better engage the scale and character of the space.

Glide é?™ćľ Like water gliding across the landscape, ideas disperse into the collective consciousness in the same way, ushering in change and breathing like into its surroundings. The glide zone is animated by underwater terraces which reveal directional surfaces visible under the smooth water. These terraces are designed to catch the sunlight, transmitting lively, gliding reflections across the pool.

Ripple 涟漪 Like the reverberations a new technology or idea can have globally, ripple symbolizes achievement and growth through hard work. The waters at the Ripple zone are animated with tall, internally illuminated jets. These jets create overlapping ripples in the water’s surface, which sparkling in the sunlight. At night, the pool is alive with sparkling, LED light emanating from inside the water jets.

The monumental, centrally positioned fountain takes the form of a 琮, channeling water energy and symbolically distributing it out to the entire site. The ancient form of the 琮 signifies the Earth and the 8 elements, most importantly, water.
The foutain flows are ever in motion, like the currents of the Huangpu River, the tides of the Ocean, which infuse the City of Shanghai with grace and energy.

THE ON-STRUCTURE PUZZLE
Landmark II Wilshire Park & Amenity Deck, Los Angeles, California Type Domestic I Landscape I Privately Owned Public Space Phases Involved Concept, Entitlement, SD, DD, CD Current Status Ongoing, Beginning of Construction Documents Team Ying-yu Hung, Gerdo Aquino, Wen Li, Jeremy Klemic, George Kutnar, Xiaochi Tang. Individual Contribution Lead designer in all Phases, Concept brainstorm, 3D modeling, renderings, client communications, project coordinations. Media CAD, Rhino, Lumion, Photoshop Time 2016-2018 The westside of Los Angeles has always been a desirable destination for businesses, visitors, and residents to “live, work, play”. The area is easily reached by vehicular and public transportation, and clusters of communities have formed within this area which is an easy drive to the ocean. The new Wilshire Park is a respite within the hustle and bustle of the heavily trafficked corridor. It will be a respite that will become a destination for people of all ages seeking unique experiences. This park expresses multiple overlapping narratives of history, culture and nature that are constant factors in Los Angeles. Within walking distance of Wilshire Park (Landmark II), the former Kuruvungna Springs site of the indigenous Tongva tribe can be found within the University High School campus. Such history should be treasured in Los Angeles, and will become one of the inspirations of the Wilshire Park concepts. Another inspiration is the geological formations of Los Angeles. The Lakewood Formation, as the dominant structural element in this area, is notable for its horizontal layers and has been called out in the wall design of the park. On the Ground Level, Wilshire Park offers 6 main programmed areas with seamless access to the larger urban context of West Los Angeles, with unique amenities that infuse it with character. • The Forest links the main pedestrian entrance and lead people to various amenities with meandering walkways, highland patios, and the unique geological walls that are protected by tree canopies for shade as well as lush plantings. • The Glade adjacent to the Forest, features the grand lawn, a stage with an iconic sculptural canopy and seating areas that bask the sunshine. • The Springs, featuring a koi pond and a modern water feature at the outdoor dining terrace, provides direct views of the park, or perhaps another opportunity to relax in tree canopies while watching activities all around. • The Entry Drive is the vehicular entrance from Granville Avenue, featuring a Jacaranda bosque to encourage cars to slow down. • The Drop-off Plaza is the grand entrance of the residential tower for both vehicular and pedestrian traffic from Granville Avenue, Wilshire Boulevard and Stoner Avenue, featuring a specimen tree in a custom white planters and green edges all around to encourage slow traffic. • The Garden Promenade serves as a formal landscape edge between the architectural plaza and the Wilshire Park with ample seating opportunities in a linear garden. On the Podium Level, the Amenity Deck offers 5 main programmed areas that offer ample opportunities for recreation and dining within landscape features that evoke the greater natural features of the West Los Angeles. The Amenity Deck is designed to accommodate all types of users – from a family friendly Pool Deck to a more calm Spa, for users who would like to enjoy a relatively private aura. With ample landscaped outdoor spaces programmed to be a Park Terrace, Outdoor Lounge, and an Outdoor Dining area, the defining characteristic of the amenity is to provide respite from the surrounding urbanization, from the heat of the sun, and from the hustle and bustle of the city. With every programmed area and landscape feature above, ample consideration will be given to material qualities, furniture selection, and a planting palette that evoke a unique sense of place. inserting a new strip system starting from buildings on the edge, shaping by social landscape and stretching into the circular agricultural fields.

East Lake Greenway II, Wuhan, China
Type International I Landscape I Public Realm Phases Involved Concept, International Competition. Current Status Partially Built. Team Ning Deng, Wen Li, Ray Zhao, Grace Gao, Xinnan Xu, Mariel Fink, Judy Qu. Individual Contribution Team Captain, Concept brainstorm, 3D modeling, rendering coordinations, client communications, project coordinations, international travel. Media CAD, Rhino, Lumion, Photoshop Time 2017 As part of the design team for Wuhan East Lake Greenway I, we are glad to see how popular it has become. Greenway I attracts diverse users, such as bicyclists, electric scooter riders, families with strollers, and pedestrian tourists. However, the passenger flow volume has exceeded expectations and the linear armature is unable to maintain a well-organized slow traffic circulation. In the process of planning and designing Greenway II, it is essential to provide alternative spaces and further optimize the circulation in the slow traffic system by creating various layers of spaces - space for stay, extended space, great open space, etc. - along the greenway. The next phase of the greenway will be the greenway “plus with unique identities and the capacity of satisfying all users from the neighbood, the city, the country, and beyond.

A VERDANT OASIS
Bunker Hill Steps Renovation, Los Angeles, California
Type Domestic I Landscape I Privately Owned Public Space I Renovation Phases Involved Concept, SD, DD. Current Status Under Construction Team Ying-yu Hung, Gerdo Aquino, Wen Li, Jeremy Klemic, George Kutnar, Muara Cavanaugh. Individual Contribution Lead designer in Concept and SD Phases, Concept brainstorm, 3D modeling, renderings, client communications, project coordinations. Media CAD, Rhino, Lumion, Photoshop Time 2016-2018 The Bunker Hill Steps, were originally designed by landscape architect Lawrence Halprin and completed in 1990. Under new ownership, SWA is updating the planting palette and adding customized planter pots to breathe in a new life to this iconic stairway. The stairway is punctuated by a series of terraces and landings containing small cafes, shops, and dining areas, to emulate streetlife stacked vertically. An escalator on the west side ensures the pedestrian route is accessible to all. The massive concrete staircase provides a pedestrian route from Bunker Hill to the Los Angeles Central Library. During the weekdays the staircase is a valuable passageway for office workers in Downtown Los Angeles. 26

HUANGPU SPECTACLE
Huangpu Riverfront Commercial&Office&Parks, Shanghai, China
Type International I Landscape I Corporate Phases Involved Concept. Expected to be Involved in All Phases. Current Status End of Concept Team Ying-yu Hung, Gerdo Aquino, Wen Li, Harriet Robertson, Joy Zou. Individual Contribution Team captain. Lead designer in Concept phase, Concept brainstorm, 3D modeling, renderings, client presentations, proposal coordinations, bidding, contract coordination&negotiation. Media CAD, Rhino, Lumion, Photoshop Time 2018 Huangpu Spectacle threads together three development sites along the Huangpu River to celebrate the urban spaces in between. Using a ‘jewelry box analogy’ the plazas and gardens are compartmentalized to display grand plaza entrances and discrete pockets of discovery. Sunken Gardens lure in curious pedestrians to vibrant and playful destinations. Green roofs offer a serene environment with panoramic views. The integrity and diversity of these spaces are distilled through separation, however their strong visual language reframes them as the ‘spectacle’ of the neighborhood.
