Active tourism

in Wielkopolska

Wielkopolska Location Wielkopolska Province is located in the basin of Warta river, in the central part of WielkopolskoKujawska Lowland. Simultaneously, it is situated on the crossroads of the main European East-West track leading from Berlin to Moskow (via Poznań, Konin and Warsaw) and the track from Prague towards the north (via Wrocław, Leszno, Poznań). As a result, the province has very favourable transportation connections with other European countries as well as the rest of the world.

Area The province occupies the area of 29 826 km2, which is 9,5% of the Polish territory.

Population Wielkopolska is inhabited (approximately) by 3,4 million people, which is 8,7% of the whole population of Poland.

The Capital The capital of the province is Poznań, a city with population of 600 000 people. Due to its economic, commercial, scientific, cultural and tourist significance, the city is considered the centre of western Poland. Also, Poznań has its own airport (Ławica airport) performing both national and international functions.

Varied Wielkopolska landscape and cultural tradition promote diversified types of active tourism. Rivers and lakes encourage canoeing, windsurfing and fishing, forests invite tourists to hunt and cycle, and diversified landscape favours cross country skiing. The areas of Leszno, Ostrów Wielkopolski, Piła and Poznań are automatically associated with gliding, hang-gliding and ballooning. Some forms of active tourism do not largely depend on landscape features or the tradition. Golf remains a relatively new phenomenon which has found its way from the British Islands. However, it may only be played on a specially prepared course, unlike hiking which is a more popular and widespread form of rest and relaxation.

Hunting

PHOT.: FROM LESZNO-REGION TOURIST ORGANIZATION ARCHIVES

Wielkopolska is the ideal region to practise active tourism. It is enough to have a good idea and be willing to go for it. The Wielkopolska landscape is shaped by morainic plateaux with ploughland and vast proglacial stream valleys. Vast forest complexes grow in the Wielkopolska National Park, the Zielonka Primeval Forest Landscape Park, the Notecka Primeval Forest and the forests along Gwda river flowing across the land with diversified surface features left by the Baltic glaciation. Lakes and rivers perfectly fit the landscape.

Active tourism is more than a form of spending time, it is a lifestyle. It involves the contact with nature combined with physical exercise and getting to know the material culture. Therefore the majority of cycling and hiking routes, and even water routes, provide for „stops" near churches, palaces or other cultural monuments.

Hikers have a lot to chose from. Over 3000 km of hiking routes have been marked out in Wielkopolska. Nature lovers may follow hiking routes leading through forests, fields or marshy meadows of the Warta river to admire natural monuments. Amateurs of sacral monuments may easily find their way following the blue or yellow trail. Some cross the whole Wielkopolska, some just a patch of the area. Didactic paths in forests are particularly valuable. The major advantage of hiking consists in the possibility of composing the route at your convenience, as long distance routes cross local routes, forming a fairly dense network.

Hiking route around Leszno

There is practically no city or town in Wielkopolska where there would be no one day hiking routes in the neighbourhood leading to local natural and historic attractions. Routes have evolved around recreation centres on lakes and reservoirs, and a dense network covers the areas of attractive nature protected as Landscape Parks. Long distance routes always cross a few local routes leading to interesting premises, or places to sleep or eat in, to bus stops or railway stations.

Thanks to the new form of wandering called „Nordic Walking”, hiking relives its second youth. Nordic Walking was invented in 1997 in Finland as walking with sticks which are a combination of trekking sticks and sticks for cross country skiing. When walking, the sticks prevent both knee joints and the spine from overloading. A good idea is to attend a course of “stick walking” by a qualified coach.

In Wielkopolska the instructors of this new walking method joined the International Nordic Walking Association (INWA). The courses are organised, among other, in the Malta centre and in “Nautilus” in Poznań and in Kuślin near Nowy Tomyśl. Nordic Walking may be practised at any time of day and year. Growing number of walkers are not satisfied with one hour stick walking, and groups of friends plan several days excursions.

Warta Cycling Route

PHOT.: A. KALENIEWICZ

The route runs from Poznań to Okonek and is marked with green colour. The length of the route beginning in the Sołacki Park at ul. Nad Wierzbakiem in Poznań is 200 km. The route goes to Okonek, the northernmost place in the region. Generally, the route is easily passable, only the forest routes after Piła to Plecemin may turn out to be a real challenge for inept cyclists. The hills in the area of Czarnków will surprise cyclist thinking about Wielkopolska in stereotypical way, the forests will enchant, and the lakes make them stay longer and extend their journey.

The wester section counts 122 km and eastern 250 km and is marked with blue colour. It is a typically nature route, as is closely follows the course of Warta, the queen of the Wielkopolska rivers, at a few inches distance from the river! It is worth taking binoculars in your travelling bag, as you may easily spot a beaver, a heron or a crane. A surprise like a ferry in Dębno on Warta, in Biechowo and Kozubowo may await the cyclists. The routes are really trapper and exploratory, but should not pose problems to a medium advanced cyclist. The routes’ attractions include wilderness, old riverbeds, ramparts and marshy meadows.

Euro Velo 9 overlaps with or crosses local cycling routes in a few places. The R-9 section going through Wielkopolska is a part of the Baltic-Adriatic Sea route (1930 km) from Gdańsk to Pula on the Adriatic Sea. The section from Poznań to Zaorle on the border of Wielkopolska region is marked. (141 km). The route runs through the Wielkopolski Park Narodowy, the Agroecological Park of D. Chłapowski, passes Polish country manors and palaces and small towns at the Southern border of Wielkopolska. Information boards are located along the route showing the area map with the marked route and the information on local attractions and historical curiosities.

TransWielkopolska Cycling Route – South The route starts in Poznań at the Malta lake at the crossing of ul. Jana Pawła II and ul. Abpa. Baraniaka streets, and ends in Siemianice after 281 km. It is marked with green colour. The major part of the route goes along bituminous roads. Cyclists will encounter more difficult sandy sections in the area of Gołuchów, Antonin and Ostrzeszów. The real challenge consists in reaching the highest Wielkopolska hill called Kobyla Góra (284 m). The route lined with trees crosses fields and meadows and passes manors, palaces and castles remembering A. Mickiewicz, F. Chopin and gen. J. Dąbrowski. The pearls of sacral monuments and museums in Lewków, Śmiełów or Winnogóra will fascinate their amateurs.

Landowner's Cycling Route

Landowner’s Cycling Route The route is marked with green colour, and starts in Mosina, at the crossing of the roads from Mosina to Rogalin and Puszczykowo. To reach the route from Poznań, take a train or a bicycle following the red cycling route marking along Warta (27,5 km). From Słonin near Czempiń the route splits into the Eastern variant of 137 km and Western variant of 130 km. Both join in Pakosław. The route is made more attractive thanks to varied pavement conditions, numerous horseback riding centres, splendid monasteries in Lubin, Karolinki, Osieczna, handcar and Film Heritage Park in Soplicowo. However, the main attractions that should be mentioned are country manors, palaces and noble residences.

On the route we will find satellite towns of the city of Poznań, boasting of unusual history and monuments, such as Śrem, Kórnik, Mosina and Murowana Goślina. Stud farm in Jeziorki near Leszno

Horse tourism

Wielkopolska fosters its horse ride tradition. It may boast several important stud farms and stables, around which horse ride routes were naturally developed throughout the years. They most often lead through forests and fields or - as it is in the case of “King Stanislaus’ horse route” in the area of Leszno - from one palace to another. Sometimes horse ride routes are linked with educational paths. Horse riding has also become an indispensable part of agri-tourism. Almost every farm has a saddle-horse or a horsedrawn carriage at their guests’ disposal.

In this way, you may choose a two- or three-hour route around a horse stable or one that takes the whole day, with accommodation for the night in the next base. The whole of all route versions has 117.5 km. They include: Route of Palaces and Forges, Trzebicki Route, Białogórski Route and Lily-of-the-Valley Route. “Czajkówka” horse stable in Trzebidza at Pętla Przemęcka constitutes a link with King Stanislaus’ Horse Route. The routes are also accessible for carriages.

In many spots along the route, there are places where you can fasten your horse and find information boards. The route goes along a circular shape, with numerous palaces and villages, enabling you to discover enchanting little roads between the fields, planted with lines of trees, panoramas of meadows and fields with crucifixes standing on the crossroads. Forest complexes and little rivers abound in its southern section. The route may be easily covered both when travelling on horseback and in a carriage. The route is situated in the area of Krobia, Kobylin, Jutrosin, Pępowo, Poniec and Miejska Górka. Windsurfing on the Dominickie Lake

Selected lakes for the lovers of windsurfing and sailing Powidzkie Lake (Gnieźnieńskie Lake District)

Dolskie Wielkie Lake (Krzywińskie Lake District)

Kaliszańskie Lake (Chodzież Lake District)

The biggest lake in Wielkopolska is a true Mecca for all the lovers of water and wind elements. It is located in Powidzki Landscape Park. The lake, with an area of 1097 hectares and 45 meters depth and with four large bays, has clean water and good infrastructure on its shore, with camping sites. The lake is inside a zone of silence. Windsurfers often admit that there are the best western winds from among all the lakes in Wielkopolska suitable for practicing this sport. There are several windsurfing and sailing schools at the lake.

The lake is situated within the boundaries of a small town of Dolsk. It is surrounded by low hills, while the winds blowing here are typical for Wielkopolska: strong, dry winds from the west. This windy, quite shallow body of water with the area of 193 hectares, without islands and with quite a regular coastline, is perfect for windsurfing regatta. For about a dozen years, competitors have participated in Surfing and Sailing Regatta in June. There are two places to launch you board or boat. At the lake, there is also a sandy municipal beach, piers and a bar. You can rent the water equipment in Municipal Centre for Sport and Leisure in Dolsk (tel. +48 61 282 51 14). The lake is included within a zone of silence.

The lake with an area of 297 hectares and the depth of 27 meters is situated 10 km north-east of Wągrowiec. It is an open water reservoir, with a flat, plain shore. The trees do not shield it from the wind and the water is surrounded by a narrow stripe of reed. There are good conditions for both beginners and advanced sailors or windsurfers. In clear water you can easily see a shallow coastal stripe which makes it easier for the surfers to start from the water and the deep part which begins just behind it. A leisure centre with accommodation, camping site and ground tennis court is situated nearby.

Kierskie Lake (Poznańskie Lake District)

PHOT.: A. KALENIEWICZ

The lake with an area of 286 hectares and the maximum depth of 37 meters is located within Poznań’s city borders. There are more than a dozen marinas, sailing clubs and windsurfing clubs on its shores (among others, Wielkopolska Yacht Club’s section for the disabled). When the winds are strong, the lake is quite difficult, as there are big waves. Every year, international and national sailing and windsurfing regatta take place here.

Międzychodzkie Lake District

Lakes around Konin (Gnieźnieńskie Lake District) Three beautiful lakes with a surprising landscape constitute a 32-kilometer navigable canal which connects the Warta river with Gopło Lake. Those sailors who feel like it may sail further, straight to Gdańsk. All the bodies of water are exceptional when it comes to their temperature, as their waters are being used by a nearby Pątnów power station and never freeze – while the temperature in the summer reaches even 25o C. Because of this, Ślesińskie Lake (area of 150 hectares, maximum depth of 26 meters) is used for canoeing and rowing trainings in winter. It is also the place where water-skiing trainings and competitions take place. Polish and European Championships in motor boating take place here as well. Similar conditions can be found at Mikorzyńskie Lake (area of 252 hectares, maximum depth of 36 meters) and Pątnowskie Lake (area of 160 hectares, maximum depth of 5.5 meters). The latter lake is the place where, at the beginning of December, St. Barbara’s Regatta takes place. About 70% of winds on these bodies of water blows from the west and north-west. A short wave is generated along the lakes, disappearing quickly after the wind ceases. There are numerous leisure centres near the lakes, willingly visited by the lovers of windsurfing and sailing. Many sailing clubs constructed their marinas and campsites.

Selected water routes in Wielkopolska Wielka Pętla Wielkopolski (Wielkopolska Great Loop)

“Lily-of-the-Valley Canoe Route”. This is an offer for, among others, those who spend their holidays near numerous lakes in the area of Przemęt and Wieleń Zaobrzański. The route with the length of 37 km leads along the lakes situated on the area of Przemęcki Landscape Park. The lakes are linked by streams and canals with a small current, which makes it possible to cover the route in both directions. The beginning and the end of the route are located in Wieleń, where you can rent canoes and obtain detailed information on the organization of the canoe rally. In order to make it easier to travel along the route, there are numerous pictogram signs with a lily of the valley against a backdrop of a paddle.

The basis of this water route is the queen of the rivers in Wielkopolska – the Warta river. The river with the length of 808 kilometers is the right tributary of the Odra river. It has its springs in Komorowo in Zawiercie while its estuary is in Kostrzyn at the Odra – and the final sections of the river flow across the meadows of The Warta River Estuary Landscape Park. The water course of the Loop amounts to 690 km and includes the Warta river in the section between Konin and Santok (338.5 km), the Noteć river in the section between Santok and Bydgoski Canal (146.5 km) as well as the water route through the Gopło Lake and the lakes near Konin to the Warta river in Konin (146.5 km). You can actually start your journey at any given point, if only the shore is suitable for launching. At the Warta river there are more and more campsites with some basic infrastructure (for example in Śrem) or true marinas, such as the one in Ląd. You can also encounter river ports which have been functioning for a long time, such as for example those in Ujście or Czarnków. However, the basic value of the route lies of course in the nature, the beauty of the river, towns and villages which – when seen from the water – may surprise us with their panoramas and charm. When we take a look at the map, it becomes clear that thanks to the Noteć river and Bydgoski Canal you may travel along the water route through almost the whole of Europe

Canoe Cistercian Loop, which may be covered within two days. Its length amounts to ca. 35 km. The beginning of the route is at Wieleń Zaobrzański. The canoers go along the Kaszczorski Canal, the Mochynka, Kopanica and Obra rivers, as well as along some lakes. On the way you can admire several Cistercian historical buildings, the best known of which is St. John the Baptist’s Church in Przemęt. Nenufar Club in Kościan (tel. +48 69 574 12 12) presents miniatures of buildings from all over the world. You can see them while in a canoe or in groups on a raft, of course on the Obra river.

This calm river with a slight current leads through the lakes in the area of Pszczew, Trzciel and Zbąszyń to the Obra River North Canal and through Mosiński Canal back to the Warta river. It is best to start the trip in Poznań, in order to flow with the current. The length of the water route from Poznań to Poznań is 370km.

Canoeing on Piława river

The Gwda, Piława and Rurzyca Rivers Canoe Route

The Prosna River Canoe Route

The Wełna river is the Warta’s right tributary. It flows out of Wierzbiczańskie Lake situated east of Gniezno and ends its path in Oborniki. The Wełna river has the length of 118 km. The Wełna’s biggest tributary is Mała Wełna (which is also navigable) which, after joining the Budziszewskie and Rogozińskie Lakes, flows into it in Rogoźno. Travelling down the Wełna river is an experience with many facets – there are both lake sections as well as meadows and forests. The part between Rogoźno and Oborniki is especially picturesque. Because of quite a fast current (average of 4.5 m3/sec.), the water in the Wełna does not freeze and the river is cyclically used for winter rallies. When flowing through the Oborniki district, the river goes through three nature reserves: “Wełna” water reserve, “Promenada” forest reserve and “Słonawy” ichtyologic reserve. You need three days to cover the whole route, starting from Wągrowiec.

The Gwda river has its springs in Białe village in Bytowskie Lake District. After passing 145 km, in Ujście it flows into the Noteć river. The canoe route has 136 km and passes through several lakes and a magnificent forest, goes through several swift currents and has 13 places in which you have to get the canoe out of water and bring it to the other side of the hindrance!

This is a typically lowland river, the Warta river’s left tributary. The section accessible for the canoers starts in Wieruszów and ends in the river’s estuary in Modlica (150 km). The river flows among fields and meadows and lines of willow trees for almost 217 kilometers, passing by several interesting cities: Grabów nad Prosną, Kalisz, Chocz or Gizałki. Canoes may be rented for example at a canoe rental centre of J. Sroczyński (Gołuchów, mobile phone: +48 602 523 327).

The Rurzyca river is Gwda’s left tributary, with the length of 25 km. It flows within the borders of the Wielkopolskie Province. The springs of the river are in Krępsko Małe Lake. The river flows through several narrow lakes and then meanders among beautiful forests full of mushrooms. Its waters have purity class I. The Piława river has the length of 80 km. Its sources can be found among the marshes in the area of Komorze Lake. We can start our route at Komorze Lake or at Piła Lake near Borne Sulinowo. The river is shallow and clean but has some swift currents, meanders and large boulders.

Fishing... right here in Wielkopolska! Each angler has their favourite spots where there is always a good catch! But there are also those for whom the most important thing is simply standing in or near water – and over an air hole in winter. Wielkopolska lakes are a paradise for anglers. Surrounded by forests or fields, they create a great opportunity of experiencing a true contact with nature, watching birds and forest animals. However, some prefer rivers. Well, the grayling can only be caught in the Gwda river. There is also an offer especially for those who prefer more comfort – special fishery spots. However, this is not the same as a direct contact with nature.

The Warta river– the river floes for 369 km within the borders of the Wielkopolskie Province. The Warta river is becoming ever cleaner and rich in oxbow lakes. A popular spot for anglers who have a boat at their disposal is Jeziorsko reservoir (4230 ha), between the Warta and Dobra rivers. The river abounds in, among other species, breams, roaches, barbels, pikes, ides, sheat-fish, eels, chubs and zartes. You can also encounter anglers in the area of Poznań, Wronki and Sieraków. The Noteć river – is a large and calm river, rich in breams, sheat-fish, zanders, pikes, asps, etc. You can encounter anglers in the area of Ujście (the Gwda river flows into the Noteć here) as well as in the meadows adjoining the Noteć river as far as to Nakło nad Notecią. The Gwda river – Anglers often fish graylings here, especially south of Lędyczek. A popular place for fishing is also the Jastrowski and Koszycki reservoir (104 ha). There are many breams in the river and with a bit of luck you can also catch a carp, a crucian, a burbot or an eel. You can also count on roaches, white breams and beautiful chubs. When it comes to predators, perches and pikes are most numerous.

Cichowo Lake (108 ha, maximum depth of 17 m) – belongs to the fishing type of whitefish-inhabited lakes. Significant declivities of the bottom and shallow areas create perfect conditions for the existence of many species of fish. The lake abounds in eels, pikes, tenches, rudds and perches.

Kórnicko-Zaniemyskie Lakes

Located between Pniewy, Sieraków and Międzychód – it is being called the land of a hundred lakes. The area is located within the Sierakowski Landscape Park. Jaroszewskie Lake (92 hectares, maximum depth of 36 meters) and Lutomskie Lake (174 hectares, maximum depth of 15 meters) are especially famous. Both of them boast the majority of fish species interesting for anglers: perches, roaches, tenches, breams, pikes, eels. Large breams (up to 3 kilos) and roaches are an important attraction of these lakes. You can also fish in winter. In Lutomskie Lake you have a good chance of fishing perches from the ice-covered water. Also the nearby lakes are very attractive for anglers.

Situated between Kórnik and Zaniemyśl. Kórnickie Lake (82 hectares, maximum depth of 6 meters) and Bnińskie Lake (226 ha, maximum depth of 8.5 meters) are popular also because of their vicinity to Poznań and Śrem. These lakes are a true kingdom of zander, but also other species of white and predator fish can be caught. There is a well-developed accommodation infrastructure around the lakes.

Powidz Landscape Park Powidzkie Lake (1036 hectares, maximum depth of 46 meters) – this body of water is located within the Gnieźnieńskie Lake District north of Słupca. The lake has water purity class II and a very varied shoreline. It abounds in lavarets, whitefish, pikes, tenches, sheat-fish, eels, perches and zanders. You can pay the fee in Powidz, in a fisherman’s hut. You can also buy fishing permits in “Rymbar” farm in Powidz (ul. Strzałkowska, tel.+48 063 277 61 31, mobile: +48 604272670). Skorzęcin Lake (641.3 hectares, maximum depth of 20 meters) – a great lake for fishing from a boat. There are numerous pikes and perches and whitefish. You can purchase a fishing permit in J.M.B. Grzybowscy Fish Farm (Skorzęcin 44, tel. +4863 277 01 07).

Leszczyńskie Lake District An area between the Warta and Odra rivers. Several dozens bodies of water and the Obra river are situated on this area. The most interesting fishing spots include: Lgiń Duży Lake (68.6 ha, maximum depth of 16.9 m) – a bream-inhabited lake. Apart from the bream, you can also find carps and grass carps. When it comes to predators, perches and pikes are most numerous and they often reach impressive sizes. Boszkowskie Lake (51.2 ha, maximum depth of 2.5 m) – the reservoir is a shallow basin, with very gentle slopes and an even bottom. It is a lake with numerous tenches and pikes but actually breams and carps dominated here. There are also some eels and zanders; however, the sheat-fish is an undisputed king of the lake.

Fishing

Krzywińskie Lake District

Wonieść Lake (120 ha, maximum depth of 14.5 m) – is a bream-type lake. Apart from the bream, the species which dominates among the non-predators, there are also tenches, roaches, white breams, rudds and bleaks. When it comes to predators, eels and zanders dominate. And a truly macabre piece of information: in 2007, anglers caught 4 piranias in the lake!

Lakes in Wielkopolski National Park Wielkopolski National Park is located 20km south of Poznań between Stęszewo, Mosina and Luboń. Three out of 12 lakes in this beautiful post-glacial landscape are accessible for anglers: Łódzko-Dymaczewskie Lake (120 hectares, maximum depth of 12 meters) – the most valuable fish species in the lake include the zander, the pike, the perch, the bream, the sheat-fish and the roach. In Łódź near Stęszew you can use the fishing site - tel. +48 61 813 43 76. The site is open every day from May 1st until October 28th from 6.00 until 20.00. It has fishing boats and accommodation with parking lots at its disposal. You can buy a fishing permit on the area of Wielkopolski National Park. Witobelskie Lake (105.8 hectares, maximum depth of 5.4 meters) – is a lake with similar ichtyological features to Łódzko-Dymaczewskie Lake. The permits can be bought in the seat of Wielkopolski National Park (Jeziory, tel. +48 61 813 22 06) or at Polish Fishing Association regional boards. Chemęcicko-Rosnowskie Lake (34 hectares, maximum depth of 10 meters) – rich in breams, perches, roaches, pikes and sheat-fish. Near the lake there is the only camping site together with a car park located within the area of the Park.

Note: Each angler should possess a Fishing Card (with the exception of foreigners and persons below the age of 14). After paying the fee (annual, for several days or a daily fee) for management and protection of waters, you can fish without any obstacles. There are separate regulations concerning the waters of Fish Farms and Companies and the so-called private fishing sites. In each fishing region there is a possibility of buying a permit for all water bodies. In fishing shops situated in the area you can also purchase permits for the nearby water bodies.

Wielkopolska is famous for its fallow deer. The trophy of a fallow deer hunted in Zielonka Forest near Poznań has not been matched for several years. These animals found perfect living conditions in the forests of the Wielkopolska region. Also the population of red deer is thriving and belongs to one of the best in the country. Beautiful examples of these animals, biggest freeroaming species in Wielkopolska forests, can be found, among other places, in Notecka Forest, the forests of the Ostrzeszów area and... in the military training grounds in Biedrusko near Poznań. However, the most popular game in our forests are roe deer and wildboars. Thanks to the exemplary animal management in Wielkopolska both species have found perfect conditions for inhabiting the area. An attractive hunting ground for birdhunting are the areas of Chrzypsko Wielkie and Sieraków where large flocks of goose feed. The areas of Iwno and Czerniejewo are famous for robust pheasants and partridges. Anyway, hunting boards in Wielkopolska also deal with the restitution of smaller game which is increasing its population every year.

If you want to hunt in Poland, you can do it only with authorized bodies – licenced hunting agencies. An exceptional facility in Poland is the Hunting Museum in Uzarzewo, established in the 19th-century mansion of the Żychliński family. The facility presenting the history and methods of hunting in Wielkopolska throughout the centuries allows for admiring hunting trophies, also those from exotic lands. More and more often, hunters accompany the lovers of bloodless hunting in the forest. Thanks to a telephoto lens, you can “shoot” numerous protected species: black storks, beavers, wolfs. Those who love the atmosphere of hunting have the opportunity of organizing a picnic or a company event, for example in a hunting shooting range.

The longest ski tow in Wielkopolska with the length of 200 meters operates on a natural hill (height 132 meters above sea level) called Talerz (“The Plate”). The total length of the slope is 550 meters but at present the Skiing Association in Chodzież created only over 250 meters of a ski route. A snow groomer operates on the slope. There are plans to open a ski lift and two more ski routes, create accommodation and restaurant facilities as well as to design a route for cross-country skiing.

PHOT.: FROM BYTKOWO GOLF COURSE ARCHIVES

Golf courses in Poland are created in the vicinity of big cities. It is also the case in Wielkopolska. The interest in this sport or, maybe one should rather say: physical activity, is still growing. Golfers spend a lot of time outdoors, walk and at the same time practice their patience, try to master their emotions and forget about the hustle and bustle of the world around them. They admit that company is a great, invaluable asset of this sport. Golf lovers in Wielkopolska have only one full-size course in Bytkowo.

It is a full-size course with 18 holes, Par 72 with the length of 5970 meters. Players also have a course with 6 holes at their disposal, Par 18 with the total length of 435 meters, often treated as a training ground. The training area (driving range) with the length of 300 meters and width of 150 meters is one of the biggest such facilities in Poland. Illuminated and roofed tees with mats and grass surface can host up to over 40 persons at the same time. Golfers and their friends also have a garden with playground for kids, volleyball court, football pitch, badminton court, place for playing boulle and a club house with a bar at their disposal.

The hotel is located at Straduńskie Lake, 7 kilometers east of Trzcianka. One of many attractions offered to its guests is a training golf “course” on the surface of the lake. It is a unique golfing facility of this kind in Wielkopolska! This water driving range consists of 14 classical tees where players can practice their hits to a selected area in water. You can also practice under the supervision of an instructor.

Wiankowa 2 tel. +48 61 878 22 22 open 7 days a week, 8.00- 22.00 www.maltaski.pl The driving range (training course) is located on Malta, between the ski slope and the sleigh slope. There are 21 tees at players’ disposal, together with equipment rental and instructors. Interestingly situated holes signal to the players if a ball hits the target and a ball-collecting system allows the players to focus not on looking for balls but on their hitting technique. There is also mini-golf at the lake, with 18 holes of varying difficulty level located on the area of 3000 m2. Both courses are illuminated.
