No tickets required. Aerial Dance is open to members of the W&L community only. To be admitted, audience members will be required to check-in, have their temperature recorded and daily attestation completed. Masking and social distancing protocols will be enforced. Under the artistic direction of Jenefer Davies, W&L is one of the first colleges in the country to offer aerial dance as an academic discipline and is a leader in avant-garde dance techniques.

In this breathtaking performance under the clouds, exuberant dancers explore movement 40 feet above the ground as the culmination of their spring term study.

Performance will be streamed. https://livestream.com/wlu Carissa Petzold, a senior double music and economics major from Raleigh, North Carolina, will perform an expansive variety of clarinet works, with portrayals of the instrument ranging from Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s seminal introduction of the clarinet to the musical stage, through Johannes Brahms’ drawn-out explorations of its beauty, to Igor Stravinsky’s inspired demonstrations of its versatility.

His senior recital will feature solo piano masterworks such as Chopin’s Polonaise in A-flat Major, Heroique, Op. 53, Beethoven’s Sonata No. 21 Waldstein and works by J.S. Bach, Maurice Ravel and Ernest Bloch.

In his Profiled project, artist and art historian Ken Gonzales-Day has photographed portrait busts from the collections of established museums such as J. Paul Getty and the Smithsonian, among others. His images are an exploration of Western assumptions about beauty and human value through the material

legacies of slavery, colonialism and white privilege. Gonzales-Day is an internationally known artist based in Los Angeles where he is a professor of art at Scripps College. His conceptual, research-based practice focuses on historically constructed systems of race and the limits of representational systems.
