It takes everyone doing their part when it comes to personal safety, but there are several security measures in place in the residence halls. • Front doors and doors leading to the residential hallways are locked 24/7. Only hall residents or escorted guests can access the building. • Guests must sign in after 8 p.m. • Security cameras are in all public spaces and elevators. • Residence hall staff is visible throughout the hall and on call nightly. • A campus police officer is assigned as liason to each hall. • Staff receive extensive emergency response training and have a close relationship with campus police. 5

Living with a roommate is just one of many new experiences waiting for you at college. They are someone with whom you can share not only your room, but your WMU experience. At WMU, you can live with a friend or meet someone new. For those meeting someone new, you can use WMU’s Roommate Finder to create and view profiles, send messages and find a match. The Roommate Finder app will go live late spring so as many students as possible will be out there for you to meet. For those who want to live with a friend, both parties need to have a completed housing contract by May 15. 8

Our student and professional staff are committed to supporting residents in their transition to life at WMU in and out of the classroom. The person you’ll interact with the most is the Resident Assistant who lives on your floor. RAs are upper-level students who have skills in connecting with others and listening to concerns, as well as an extensive knowledge of campus services. They create a floor community through hall activities, assisting students with personal and academic concerns, and helping in emergency situations. RAs are the first person you go to for questions, guidance and involvement in hall activities.

Sign-up starts 10 a.m. EST Jan. 31, 2018. The date you sign up determines what Room Selection Group you’ll be in for choosing your room, so the earlier the better. In June, we’ll sequentially activate Room Selection Groups based on when you signed up. When your Group goes live, you’ll be able to see all the eligible empty rooms in any residence hall and choose where you want to live. You’ll also be able to add a roommate at that time. There’s no deposit required when you sign up.

Log in to the GoWMU portal with your Bronco NetID and password sent in your admissions letter. Once in, look for the “My Self Service” box on the left. Open “All” and find the “Residence Life Housing” link. Click the link to open the Housing and Dining Application. As you move through the housing and dining application, you will provide the following information: • Personal contact information • Emergency contact information • Meal plan choice • Learning community choice • Hall preference and if you want a single room • Roommate questions • Criminal history After completing the application, you will see a copy of your housing contract to review. The housing contract is for a full academic year. Please be aware you are entering into a legally binding contract with the University. After reviewing the contract, enter your Western Identification Number to sign your contact. You can find your WIN (9-digit number) in your admissions paperwork. A PDF of your contract will be emailed to your WMU email address. If you are under the age of 18, you will need a parent or guardian to co-sign. Enter their email address below your WIN signature. This will send them an email with a link and code that they are able to use to electronically sign as well.
