MANIFESTO OF SURREALISM is an erasure poem of the English translation of André Breton’s seminal work, Manifesto of Surrealism, printed as an edition of 50 artist books. Breton’s original manifesto, Manifeste du surréalisme, was published in 1924 in Paris by Editions Du Sagittaire. I have transcribed the text from Richard Seaver & Helen Lane's translation of the manifesto (Manifestoes of Surrealism, University of Michigan Press, 1962). Through transcription there is embodyment. MANIFESTO OF SURREALISM addresses issues of grammatical gender in language and the ownership of intellecual propery and inheritance.
