de Martino Legado Carmenere The DeMartin o family has been producin g wine in Chile's famous Maipo Valley for almost 70 years. Delicate use of oak adds complexity, but the strength of

DeMartino wines is in the fruit— resulting in big, rich, extracted flavors. Legado Reserva wines are made in limited production on the family estate using only the ripest hand-picked fruit. This signature Chilean wine is produced from handpicked grapes from the family estate. It has a beautiful red color with

traces of ruby. The nose is fresh and i ntense with notes of black pepper and plum, which are balanced by sweet aromas of vanilla. A pleasant acidity fills the palate, with well-structured tannins. The finish is long, with red fruit flavors and hints of vanilla.

Ramey Cabernet Sauvignon Annum A new release for Ramey, this represents their version of a "winemaker's wine." Having spent so much time working in Bordeaux and visiting Burgundy, the Loire and the Rhone, the vinter's are deeply steeped in French winemaking tradition, including their orientation toward the growing site or region. Thus, all their wines are either vineyard designates or regional blends. While Annum is an appellation wine, it is the one blend they make each year that allows them to

Tikal Patriota 2008 Nicolás Catena is arguably the father of Argentine wines, and his kids also do it up right albeit at opposite ends of the spectrum. His Harvard-educated physician daughter Laura owns Luca Wines (named for HER son) – soft, silky, great-bodied wines, and his pleasureseeking son Ernesto owns Tikal - heavy, bold, asskickers named for HIS son. Godspeed Chardonnay 2007 Godspeed is an artisan grower in the Mount Veeder Appellation of Napa Valley situated at an altitude of 1500 feet. I call them "those hippies up on Mount Veeder", way out in the middle of the mountain and down a gravel road. In their farming practices, no pesticides, herbicides or other chemicals are used in the fields. They use only recycled natural compost and fertilizer. Drip irrigation is via their own on-site well. All pruning and harvesting is done by hand. The berries grown at this altitude are slightly smaller, more concentrated and have a high natuaral acidity that allows a more focused and fruit forward, yet old world style in the winemaking. The vineyard is the project of the Larry Stricker family. Larry sells his fruit to recognized wineries such as Robert Craig, Bremmer, William Hill, Newton, and Monticello. Since 1990 he has been bottling under his own label. After six years (1990-1996) of modifying wine making techniques, testing out which oak flavors best complemented their fruit, adjusting the amount of new oak barrels and aging
