SOUTH CLE ELUM –The rail memories stirred up by this coming weekend’s Depot Days will have barely settled back in to the quieter rhythms of South Cle Elum life when it will be time for them to get up and party at the brewfest. Less than a month later, on July 11, the “Second Ever” Rails to Ales Brewfest will descend upon the depot and railyard, mixing beer train cargo with the historic Milwaukee Road stopover in South Cle Elum. A dozen brewers have been invited to pour samples of their creations to thirsty brewfest patrons. Each brewer is slated to bring two to three varieties. All will be competing for the title of Best Brewer and Best Beer, as selected by participant ballots. Wineries will debut on this year’s sampling fare, according to event organizers. There will be two Central Washington wineries represented, each bringing up to several selections for tasting. Bands lined up for entertaining the crowd of 1,500 anticipated guests are an Ellensburg favorite and a popular Seattle area group. The Dave Rawlinson Band has garnered a Grammy nomination for their self-described “Boomer Rock” and Strange Jerome delivers a sultry rocking twang. Sample clips can be heard on the brewfest’s website. Tickets can be found at Tribune Office supply and other locations. For event details, visit www.RailsToAlesBrewfest.com

Roger Sackett completed the rehabilitation of the small shack. In addition to repairing exterior siding, painting, replacing windows and cutting down and installing a front front door, the finishing touch on the project was the fabrication and installation of the EASTON sign on the building. The shack serves as a tribute to the Milwaukee Road's presence in Easton, to the west of South Cle Elum.
