Falcons win a couple, lose a couple in fastpitch action BY RECORD STAFF

Following two solid wins over Lakewood and Coupeville, the South Whidbey fastpitch softball team is 2-3 in the league and 4-3 overall. “The Lady Falcons won the first game by showcasing the pitching of Rebecca Stratton, who struck out eight Lakewood batters in a row,” said Falcon coach Chuck Burton. “Last Friday, the Wolves came to South Whidbey looking for their first league win, but had trouble dealing with the hot bat of Melanie Murphy, who blasted a home run over the left field fence to help the girls win the game 6-2. Katy Piehler

was the winning pitcher, getting her first league victory.” Then, the dreaded spring break syndrome struck, and with players away on vacation, South Whidbey lost to Archbishop Murphy 5-4, then suffered a 9-0 shutout by Granite Falls on Wednesday. At 4 p.m. Monday, April 13 the girls plan to rally with a win over visiting Sultan. Lucy

How many dogs do you know that can run an agility course? Well this five and a half year old is one of them - she can even “shake” hands. In February Lucy came to the WAIF Shelter in Coupeville when her prior owner thought she would be better in a home with children over five years of age. Lucy is a 50lb. Australian Cattle dog mix. We were told “Lucy is loyal”and protective of her family. So come meet her if you want to change the life of this special dog.

Snickers

Snickers is a one year old torti with yellow-green eyes. Since coming to the WAIF Shelter in Coupeville in October, Snickers has made great strides in her socialization. She exudes a happy purr when she is brushed and we have discovered that she loves treats. Meet these and other pets now ready for good homes at the WAIF Animal Shelter, on Highway 20 south of Coupeville, or the Oak Harbor Animal Shelter (Naval Air Station) 360.279.0829 and the Cat Adoption Centers in Freeland and Cat Adoption Center in the Thrift Store on Pioneer Way in Oak Harbor. Visit WAIF at www.waifanimals.org. Shelter hours are noon to 4 p.m., Wednesday through Sunday (360) 678-5816. Oak Harbor and Freeland centers need volunteers. Call 360.678.1366 or write to waifvc@whidbey.net.
