WODEN is a Danish sneaker brand founded by Carsten Holm in 2013.

“Ever since WODEN was just a simple idea and some raw sketches made by hand I have known that the brand would be value driven. Some saw it as an obstacle, but for me it has always been a key motivator.

My journey has had its bumps along the way and after almost two decades in the shoemaking business I know that I can always do better. Today, that approach is the essence of WODEN and I am proud to have shown that it works.”

Who We Are

The name WODEN stands for Works of Denmark. Staying true to our Scandinavian heritage has allowed us to focus on what really matters: creating durable quality footwear with a simplistic design and a responsive approach. It’s not just about creating another shoe. We care to meet and match the demands of women and kids on the go. We do that by focusing on craftsmanship, functionality and that perfect fit. WODEN is designed to last and crafted to be worn all day long.

For every WODEN collection we want to do better. Awareness of and knowledge about materials is how we push the barrier for more sustainable manufacturing.

Fish leather is a by-product of the seafood industry in the North Sea. Oh and by the way - all fishing is MSC certified.

FISH LEATHER FROM ICELAND

100% CO2 NEUTRAL PRODUCTION

Recycled Polyester

We use everyday-waste to create new textiles for our shoes. Recycled polyester is made from post-consumer PET bottles. This way we avoid using crude oil to produce new fibers. This also means that our textile production requires less energy.

RESPONSIBLE

The cork used on our insoles grows in Argentina and Portugal. To harvest cork no trees are cut down and only the bark is harvested. This is done every 10 years and results in 40 - 60 kg of cork. Cork farming accelerates the tree’s need for CO2. Therefore 5 times more CO2 is captured.

Rubber

Sole

Natural rubber is harvested from a tree called Hevea Brasilienses. Our outer soles contain 65% natural rubber. Additionally, we support our statement: REUSE by adding 10% rubber waste.

LWG GOLD CERTIFIED

When we choose leather as a material, we choose with care. Leather is a natural material. To use a waste product from the food industry means we avoid the use of crude oil to produce plastic. We source our leather responsibly.

CRAFTMANSHIP

At WODEN, craftsmanship blends handcraft and technology, involving over 100 expert hands in each pair’s creation. We prioritize responsibly sourced materials and subject our products to rigorous tests, including flexing and bonding test, while waterproof constructions undergo thorough waterproof testing. These steps reflect our commitment to crafting exceptional, responsible footwear.

What truly sets us apart is our extraordinary 3D anatomic sole, guaranteeing a midsole that perfectly replicates the natural and optimal foot shape, placing us at the forefront in the market.

WODEN insoles are all about innovation and sustainability. They’re PU molded for comfort, include natural cork, employ lacer print logos for zero color usage, and are glue-free. Additionally, an airflow system is incorporated to enhance breathability.

Double Digits In Green Growth

WODEN have had double digits growth since the brand was established almost eight years ago. In 2020 we were awarded the fifth ‘Gazelle prize’ for our growth in revenue by the leading Danish financial newspaper, Børsen.

We are on a journey and we keep exploring new markets and seek out even better collaborations with our existing customers. With that approach we have shown that WODEN is internationally scalable and that a value driven business can be a profitable one. This is just the beginning and now you are a part of our journey.
