Albury Wodonga says YES to Equality and Respect: Canapes and Conversation with Phil Cleary Friday, November 23 - 5.30pm to 7.30pm The Cube Wodonga, $10 per person Bookings: wod.city/PhilCleary Two Cities – One Community initiative (Albury City Council and Wodonga Council) wish to invite: local business leaders and sporting clubs and their representatives to attend this event to learn about the importance of equality and respect. Guest speaker, former VFL footballer Phil Cleary, is a passionate advocate for change in attitudes and behaviours that perpetuate gender inequality. He will share his insights and thoughts on this important topic, its links to violence against women and the role we can all play. A Q and A session will follow with panel members including: •

LOVE BiTES Artwork Display Friday, November 23 to Monday, December 10 Wodonga Library, Free LOVE BiTES is a school-based Family Violence and Sexual Assault Prevention Program, which has been implemented in Albury and Wodonga high schools. As part of the program, students developed artworks that raise awareness of family violence. These artworks will be utilised for the Albury Wodonga LOVE BiTES Campaign, which will be displayed at the Wodonga Library.

Step Out Albury Wodonga

Saturday, November 24 - 11am to 1.30pm (gather at 10.45am on Swift St), Free Gather on Swift St, Albury (behind Albury Entertainment Centre), march to QEII Square, Dean St, Albury Step Out is a community event, which brings individuals, families and organisations together in a show of strength and support for survivors and people living with or affected by violence. This inclusive community event opens with a march down Dean St, followed by a family-friendly community celebration featuring local artists, entertainment, activities, food stalls and information stalls. ‘Walk in my Shoes’ Zonta Display Sunday, November 25 to Monday, December 10 Albury LibraryMuseum, Free The Zonta Club of Albury Wodonga has created a display of survival stories of women from abusive and violent relationships called ‘Walk in my Shoes’. The display celebrates the success of women and acknowledges the courage, strength, bravery and resilience of survivors, and shares their journey. You have the opportunity to add your own written journey (anonymously if you wish) and attend a women’s workshop if interested.

National and Local Family Violence Initiatives Forum Tuesday, November 27, 1pm to 6pm. Afternoon tea provided followed by light refreshments from 5pm. La Trobe University Albury-Wodonga Campus, Main lecture theatre (Building 6) Bookings: To book a ticket got to https://now.latrobe/2yqK2XE Cost: $15, students free This forum focuses on the link between national and local work to end violence against women and their children. National President of the Australian Association of Social Work (AASW), Ms Christine Craik, keynote address speaks to the work AASW is doing in this space. Presentations by researchers and those involved in local service delivery and prevention will be showcased.

Join us for a selection of films that explore a range of topics that face women on a day-to-day basis – from safety on the streets, how they look, what they wear, how this is viewed and judged by society, and who they sleep with and why. Movies include: Lipstick (Directed by Harriet McKern, 1994, E, 7.05min) looks at the search for the perfect red. With an offbeat sense of humour, Lipstick looks at the politics and glamour of lipstick and the dilemmas of the modern woman in a marketed world. Footy Chicks (Directed by Rebecca Barry, 2006, M, 52:15min) explores the sexual politics of women who deliberately pursue football stars, as well as the men and the ‘footy culture’ involved. Daughter (Directed by Sarah Jayne Portelli, 2016, PG, 28:22min). Inspired by the tragic murders cases of Jill Meagher in Brunswick and St Kilda’s Tracy Connelly, Daughter explores how women are viewed in society by following three opposing female characters on a Friday night out in St Kilda.

The Australian Women’s Leadership Forum Thursday, November 29, 8.30am registrations open, 9am start, $395 per person Albury Entertainment Centre To register and find out more about the forum please visit the website wla.edu.au/leadershipforum This forum is for women who are looking for increased awareness of their leadership style and competencies, plus practical strategies to help overcome challenges within their work and personal life in a relaxed and supportive environment. The content and flow of the program is designed to immerse participants in the subject matter and create valuable insights informed by collective experience. During the program, a number of key themes are explored via a combination of expert presentations (including a keynote address from Tracey Spicer AM), collaborative discussion, experiential activities and personal reflection.

International Day of People with a Disability is a United Nations’ sanctioned day. It aims to increase public awareness, understanding and acceptance of people with disability and celebrate the achievements and contributions of people with disability. In Albury-Wodonga, the event will be a platform for people to share their experience of disability and is aimed at celebrating ability and promoting rights of all people. The event will include live music, guest speakers and a free barbecue lunch.

Community Walk against Family Violence Wednesday, December 5, 11am Starts at St Stephen’s Church, heads down High St and finishes with a free barbecue from 12pm in Junction Place, Free The Community Walk against Family Violence is a free event that invites local people to stand together against violence in all forms but especially genderbased violence. Join the walk at 11am leaving from the front of St Stephen’s Uniting Church, corner Nilmar Ave and Beechworth Rd, walking down High St and finishing at Junction Place with a free barbecue for the community. This event is organised by Junction Support Services, the Department of Health and Human Services, the Salvation Army and supported by local agencies.

Corryong event: Community March against Family Violence Tuesday, November 27, 12.15pm to 1.15pm Community march starts at Attree Park, Corryong and concludes at Senior Campus, Corryong College, Free Join the Corryong community for a community march against family violence. The march will start at Attree Park and finish at the Senior Campus of Corryong College, where there will be a guest speaker and food available.
