Upstream is the product of both councils working together to host a significant event that spans both cities. This is a festival of regional significance, a collaboration and connection of art and culture with local food and beverage. We are thrilled to host a festival that is unique to the Border and has something for all ages. The festival is family-friendly, has lots of free activities and is accessible to all, creating experiences that people can share across generations. Upstream gives everyone a chance to explore and experience opportunities featuring nationally acclaimed artists as well as putting a spotlight on some of our local talent. With experiences happening across four days, alternating between the two cities, Upstream is a showcase of Albury-Wodonga and the region. We welcome you to Albury-Wodonga and encourage you to explore beyond the festival and immerse yourself in the myriad of arts and culture experiences across our community.

after the festival Albury-Wodonga is more than a meeting point of two cities and two states on either side of the mighty Murray River. It’s also where a sophisticated urban centre meets untamed countryside. Where Australia’s newest cultural landmarks meet ancient indigenous storytelling traditions. Where fine dining in a reimagined historic train station meets street food in a converted shipping container. Where a rich history of welcoming new people to our land meets an enduring sense of community today. Albury-Wodonga’s rich narrative of culture, heritage and local life is celebrated across the arts, from multiple galleries, performing arts, curated experiences, festivals and events.
Albury Entertainment Centre is set in the hub of Albury’s cultural precinct, overlooking the picturesque QEII Square and is located within easy walking distance to retail shopping, restaurants and entertainment. Albury’s premier performing arts and function venue brings you the best of Australia’s drama, comedy, dance, opera and music. Albury LibraryMuseum is an award-winning combination of state-of-the art technology, interactive exhibitions and the traditional reading and research spaces found in most libraries! Crossing Place – A story of Albury is a permanent exhibition telling the story from the first contact with the Wiradjuri, the traditional owners of the land, to the city as it stands today. Arts Space Wodonga is undergoing redevelopment as part of Wodonga’s Library Gallery redevelopment. It will provide an accessible and fit-for-purpose facility that provides a program of arts and culture to residents and visitors. Bonegilla Migrant Experience provides a poignant and evocative reflection into what camp life was like for the more than 300,000 migrants who called it home between 1947 and 1971. Only Block 19 stands as a stark reminder of the past with memorabilia and audio recollections by former residents providing a snapshot of life for these early migrants. Burraja Gallery in the Gateway Village arts precinct provides the opportunity to discover the richness and diversity of local contemporary Aboriginal art. Through the gallery buy gifts, jewellery, artworks and artefacts. Burraja Gallery is an Aboriginal Artists Enterprise which supports local Aboriginal artists.

Murray Art Museum Albury (MAMA) MAMA is an all-encompassing contemporary art experience, balancing international touring exhibitions with deep connections to the regional surrounds and cultural identity. Every corner of MAMA is bold, vibrant and alive and it features a stunning 24-hour “art skin”, interactive workshops and immersive cultural experiences. The Cube Wodonga is a multipurpose, conference and performance facility in Wodonga’s CBD. The venue hosts touring bands and theatre shows, local performances, film screenings and more. The performance season includes comedy, dance, music, morning melodies and children’s theatre. Wodonga Library is located at 194 High St during Wodonga’s Library Gallery redevelopment. In addition to its collection of books, magazines and newspapers, it offers a range of programs to cater for everyone; from Story Time to tech sessions for seniors and everything in between. thank you
Thank you A festival of this magnitude is only possible thanks to the many staff, organisations, partners, groups and volunteers that all play a part in contributing to its success. AlburyCity and Wodonga Council would like to thank all the creative organisations and community groups that put on activities, threw open their doors, ran hands-on workshops and made up the fantastic variety of things to do in the lead-up and as part of this festival. And a big thank you and a collective round of applause for our many volunteers, without whom we would not have been able to ensure that this inaugural festival would run as smoothly as possible. We hope to see you all return and play a part in Upstream 2021.
