EDITOR’S LETTER
I
CONTRIBUTORS t always brings me great pleasure to introduce a new issue of The Sett, our team is constantly growing and so is the content within it. We recently introduced Kidswear, Beauty and Grooming sections to the site, allowing us to showcase even more products from independent brands in a huge variety of different areas.
It’s thrilling to work with designers who are constantly pushing boundaries, who are brave enough to create collections and bold designs that haven’t been seen anywhere else before. We speak to D.EFECT (page 7) whose entire ethos is based on ‘the beauty of imperfection’ a message that is so strong in today’s digital society where social media and body image is at the forefront of everyone’s minds.
SARAH BURTON Photographer at Wolf & Badger Studios
We collaborated with Rixo on the design of our Autumn / Winter ‘16 tote bags (page 18), a designer duo who spend hours meticulously hand-sketching and painting their designs ready to be sent for production in a workshop in North London. We celebrate the fact that using sustainable materials, having pieces made in ethical workplaces is of such high importance to the brands that we work with.
After living and working in New Zealand, Australia and Germany, photographer Sarah moved to London this year and is inspired and excited by this city. She shoots fashion, travel, documentary and portraiture and loves to collaborate with like minded creatives.
Finally, we are so proud to reveal our main fashion story, ‘Elemental’, with parts of it shot for the first time in our very own studio space with our incredible studio team. We hope you enjoy the issue!

FOUNDERS’ LETTER
A
lot has happened at Wolf & Badger since our last letter in spring. We have moved to lovely new offices in Shoreditch and brought on several amazing team members to assist us further in promoting and selling the incredible brands we carry. Our new office also has a fabulous dedicated photo studio within it and we’re now proud to have officially launched Wolf & Badger Studios to produce amazing editorial inhouse on an ongoing basis: we are also now providing a variety of professional, creative photographic and video content for any brand that needs it. We hope that you like the A/W issue of The Sett and due to its now diminutive size, you will be able to carry it around with you everywhere! Thanks go out to everyone who has supported us in our journey of supporting the best independent brands and of course to our wonderful editorial team in putting this amazing issue together. Multi-coloured faux fur is the only type of fur to be seen with, so make sure it’s decadent and over the top. During the cold winter months your outerwear is pretty much all anyone sees, so remember that more is more and add some serious fuzz by D.EFECT or SUPERSWEET x Moumi to your wardrobe.

ELEMENTAL We have an inkling that the metallic trend is set to take over the world. We’ve seen it on everything from pleated skirts, and iridescent shoes, to magpie attracting accessories. This is a trend that’s set to get even bigger for Autumn / Winter ‘16, so join the metallic parade with the Okhtein bag that looks as though it’s been dipped in liquid silver, or the crushed foil effect of the Veil London skirt.
Autumn/Winter 2016 ... Need To Know
With winter just around the corner, it’s time to start thinking about the latest trends and styles to invest in for the new season. From statement coats that will stand the test of time, to the finer details like a hint of crushed velvet or a splash of metal, here’s what you need to know for Autumn / Winter ‘16. A-MM-E £65

A TOUCH OF VELVET
The Bee’s Sneeze
The most notable fabric of the season is the oh-so-strokable velvet, which ruled the runways last fashion week. Whether it’s crushed or coloured, this is one luxurious texture that will be making its way into your wardrobe for autumn. The Bee’s Sneeze have been leading the way with this trend for a few seasons now with their vintage inspired collection, made from fabric that has been hand-selected from deadstock in Belgian warehouses. 6

D.EFECT
The idea behind the Rachel Balfour Jewellery ‘animal collection’ is one story we can really get behind. The pieces were created with Rachel’s daughters in mind and the strong messages she wanted to pass onto them; such as The Unicorn: Believe in you and The Orca Whale: Always by your side.
INTERVIEW
Egle Ziemyte has always been a bit of a rebel, focusing on all that is different about the world. Her label, D.EFECT is based on this notion and its geometric, contemporary pieces are putting Lithuania firmly in the fashion spotlight.
Ten percent of all profits also go to Rosa, the UK fund for women and girls, so you can also feel good whilst shopping.
5
D.EFECT is based on the beauty of imperfection, how did this come about?
THE ‘IT’ BAG
I was always drawn to everything that was different. Beauty, art, everything actually, can be done in two ways, just like our social media profiles. “The normal way” is what we do in order to be admired. “The beauty of imperfection” way is the one that sees beauty in our natural selves, unique features and dares to be different. Our team is all about the latter; we are passionate about personalities, not clones.
Aren’t these bags a treat for the eyes? Yes, there’s always a new ‘it’ bag doing the rounds, but sometimes a new brand comes our way that we can’t help but stop and take notice of. With clean simple lines, beautifully soft leather, and autumn’s all important burgundy colour palette, these bags will look as good displayed on a shelf in your living room as they do draped across your body.
You’ve had a variety of different jobs including modelling, styling and working as a fashion editor for a lifestyle magazine, how did you end up getting into design? I have always been passionate about fashion design. As a teenager I participated in fashion competitions where I presented the most avant-garde collections. Later I started modelling and the fashion world just captured me. As a stylist, I was used to creating the craziest fashion stories, but as I grew up, I started appreciating fashion not just as a branch of art, but also as something that people use in their daily lives. This was the time I shifted from avant-garde fashion to wearable fashion.
Subella London £460 Subella London £460
Your pieces are made just a stone’s throw away from your office, why is this so important to you?
Think sailor chic and channel your inner Popeye, because nautical fashion is here. At Prada we saw white corsets paired with sailor hats, finished off with anchor-accented jewellery. Give a subtle nod to the trend with navy outerwear by Boo Pala, this is a trend that we are bound to see a lot more of.
I will always prefer good quality over “meh” quality, but I believe every fashion designer does. However, with big manufacturing costs, many are forced to compromise on quality. This is where I consider us to be very lucky, as being based here in Lithuania we are able to offer luxurious quality at accessible price. It all happens so close to our office, so we are able to visit them weekly to keep a close eye on production. What is the hardest thing about launching your own brand? I have one tip for emerging designers, enjoy the moment, it will never get easier. The hardest thing is to find the right voice to listen to. You meet so many people and hear so many different opinions about your collection that is easy to go crazy. Asians don’t like a certain colour but Americans are asking for more of it, the British want to see tight clothing but the Japanese want everything loose and the French don’t want anything at all! How do you know what to do? It’s easy to get lost but I soon realised that it is impossible to please everyone. What’s next for D.EFECT?

GOLD DUST Nailing the perfect autumn look is all about getting the finer details right, even down to the last delicate ring you place on your finger, or the way that the glimmer of a watch immaculately pairs with the threads that run through your shirt. These are the intricate extras that will really elevate your look. Iridescent gold detailing is set to be a massive trend this autumn, but it’s all about adding the right details to hit this trend nail on the head. Choose watches by Laruze or Abbott Lyon for a quick flash of the wrist, or head down the more obvious route with a gold bag by Okhtein or Tovi Sorga. Wear them draped across your body or tucked under your arm with the strap as short as possible. Don’t be afraid of experimenting with colour in the autumn months, transition into the time of year with a seasonal splash of red; gloves by Gizelle Renee are made using the softest leather and will add a pop of colour to a bland outfit. Red bags by Subella London, Esin Akan and Mou London, as well as shoes by Boté a Mano add a quirky element when paired with monochrome separates.

When you’ve finished exploring the volcano, sail onwards to the hot springs around the corner and take a dip in balmy bath-like waters. RIXO
AND THE ELEMENTS
Orlagh McCloskey and Henrietta Rix are the queens of boho. Their vintage inspired prints are breathtakingly beautiful and have caused a stir within the fashion circuit this past summer. It seemed only natural that we team up with them for our Autumn / Winter ‘16 tote bag, to try and channel some of their whimsical, nostalgic energy into the design.
Rixo £165
Rixo £255
The pair met when studying at London College of Fashion and they were both struck by how similar their ideas and visions were. They both had a penchant for all things vintage and would trawl fairs, flea markets and charity shops in search of anything old and beautiful that no one else would have. The pair travelled to California and Ibiza, stopping off at every goodwill store and hippy market along the way to take inspiration from old pieces, prints and colour schemes for their own designs. The first iconic Rixo print actually came about by accident, a friend was going to create a print based on their mood board but pulled out at the last minute, forcing the girls to draw upon their own painting skills. The design duo cite this as the moment that made Rixo what it is now; they hand paint all of their own prints setting them apart from so many other brands that rely on digital printing. They now start every collection in the same way, with a drawing or painting based around a specific theme, which is then evolved using watercolour and acrylic. The prints are then scanned in and 18
printed onto silk, where the pair then fuss over the fit of the actual garments to get the shape exactly right. To create the limited edition tote bag, Rixo were set a brief to incorporate ‘the elements’ into their design. They began by creating a mood board for their ideas, collecting symbols and motifs for earth, wind and fire. Orlagh and Henrietta are both obsessed with the sun, moon and stars so these elements played a big part in the design. They then took both the Wolf & Badger and Rixo logos and transformed them using the writing that they found on old tarot cards and gypsy letters. We expect to see big things in the future from Rixo, their plan is to expand into

THE CLASSICS There comes a time in every man’s life where he must stop to consider the importance of a good accessory. Gone are the days of borrowing your father’s belt or making do with the same pair of shoes that you’ve had for years that leak from the holes in the toes. The power of a good accessory should never be underestimated, and there are certain things that every stylish man should have in his repertoire. The Watch: A classic time piece is possibly the most important accessory a man can buy, it shows that you’ve made the leap from boyhood to manhood and are no longer content with using your phone to tell the time. The steel watch by Bravur Watches is the perfect piece for the job. Take it to the next level with a watch roll by Dom Reilly. Whether you travel a lot, or have an impressive watch collection, the only way to store them is in a sturdy leather case. The Shoes: A classic loafer the most versatile shoe a man can own, pair them with jeans and a tee for a casual weekend outfit, or dress them up with chinos and a blazer for a more polished look. This brown suede pair by Maksters is perfect for those autumn days spent strolling around the city. The Belt: An outfit isn’t complete without the final finishing touch, the belt. A woven belt by Tyler & Tyler is casual and cool or keep it classic with a simple leather piece by N’DAMUS London.

SWAROVSKI When Wolf & Badger teamed up with Swarovski to offer a platform to some out-of-this-world design talents, the result was a dazzling mix of alchemy and artistry.
Ever since Daniel Swarovski founded the company in 1895, Swarovski has been creating crystals of unmatched quality, craftsmanship and artistry that go beyond mere manufacturing. From exquisite colours and effects to classic cuts and seasonal innovations, crystals from Swarovski are the most technologically advanced in existence. Their brilliance and versatility have a magical ability to bring artistic visions to life across the creative spectrum, and have become essential ingredients in contemporary design. Swarovski has always collaborated with the best—historic names such as Coco Chanel and Christian Dior, living legend Jean Paul Gautier, and masters of avant garde Maison Martin Margiela are just a few. Korean-born, Paris-based Sarah Cho is another young ITS success story: her jewellery brand SCHO mixes metals with crystals for contemporary culture-clash

BEAUTY From skincare to haircare, beauty and cosmetics to fragrances, find the next big thing in beauty right here.
Your winter skin problems, solved... The first signs of winter appear on our skin way before we start seeing signs of it anywhere else. The glowing, golden tan we spent those short summer months perfecting is long gone, and all that’s left is skin that’s dry, dull and in need of some TLC. It’s not just the cold weather that does it; it’s the constant fluctuation between temperatures, the cold wind outside versus the hot blast of heating that really wreaks havoc on the skin. Glowing skin has been one of the hottest beauty trends of 2016, so here are our top tips for locking in the moisture and getting the best complexion possible this winter.
FACE
LIPS
The key to hydrated skin in the winter is implementing a skincare routine that you will actually stick to. Simply moisturising on a daily basis is not enough to give you the skin you desire. Haeckels £15
• Moisturise Start with the Saisons D’Eden Beauty Cream for Autumn/Winter, its organic ingredients and high Vitamin E content will leave your skin feeling nourished and looking radiant.
HANDS
Saisons D’Eden £38
• Oil Up Follow this by using an essential oil, such as the Argan Oil by Melchior & Balthazar. They are your best bet at achieving a winter glow, they help to lock in moisture as well as soothe any dry/flaky skin. Try adding a few drops into your moisturiser if you need to keep your routine short and sweet!
AEOS £83
Having dry hands is one of the most claustrophobic feelings in the world, and in the winter months there’s often no escaping it. Smother them in Enriching Spelt Hand Cream by AEOS on a daily basis and you’ll have happy hands in no time.
BODY Melchior & Balthazar £35
• Magic Masks Give your skin a little bit of extra love by introducing a weekly facemask into your routine. The Coco Mask by Skin & Tonic is made with creamy coconut milk powder, cooling aloe vera and kaolin clay that will have a lasting effect on your skin, leaving it feeling plump and looking dewy. 26
Possibly the most annoying thing about winter is the chapped lips that go with it. Apply the Seaweed and Sea Lavender Lip Balm by Haeckels, a natural form of hydration that will protect your lips from the elements and leave them feeling soothed and soft.
Skin & Tonic £22
A full body moisturising session is the last thing we want to do when we’ve jumped out of a warm shower and the bedroom is freezing cold, but it’s an absolute must if we want to avoid dry and scaly skin. Slather on some Cupuacu & Nut Oil Body Butter by Ambre Botanicals; this blend is extremely nutritious, soothing and moisturising for the skin and will leave you feeling like a goddess even when it’s icy outside.

The secret to a perfect beard There’s more to growing a beard than simply putting down the razor and hoping for the best, in fact the full-faced, thick beard is something of an art form that only the sharpest of gentlemen can perfect. Styling and maintenance is key; keep it feeling soft and smelling fresh with natural beard oils that moisturise the skin at the same time, like the Eastern Spice Oil by London Beard Company.
THE BEAUTY SHELFIE For the organised ones among us there’s nothing more satisfying than spying on someone else’s impeccably stocked, immaculate bathroom cupboard. Whether it’s filled with the latest cult beauty buys or old favourites that you’ve sworn by for years, perfecting the ultimate beauty shelfie is the key to bathroom bliss. Add a few perfectly placed, decorative shells as well as a splash of greenery to bring fresh air from the outdoors into your home.

HOW TO DETOX
YOUR HOME
for winter
During the cold winter months we find ourselves venturing outside less in favour of staying at home, curling up in front of the television and binge watching the latest Netflix series. So it’s more important than ever to have a home that’s clean, tidy, organised and fresh; ready for you to spend extended periods of time in. Here’s our 5-step guide to help you detox your home, ready for the winter ahead. Richard Brendon £110

INTRODUCE SCENTS
There’s nothing worse than finding cupboards and shelves overflowing with tired, chipped items that you can’t bring yourself to throw away. Eating your breakfast out of a chipped bowl is never going to be the best way to start to your day, so replace it with the Skiers Bowl by Dede Johnston; a unique and beautiful design that will have you waking up in a much more positive way.
One of the easiest and most satisfying ways of enhancing your home is with the addition of a candle or organic scent. Whether it’s in the bathroom or the living room, you can always rely on a warming fragrance or flicker of the flame to transform your mood. We don’t know anyone who doesn’t love the smell of rain; Haeckels have captured this perfectly with their Cliftonville Rain Candle, which is guaranteed to evoke memories of that first rain after a dry spell.

REFRESH EXISTING SPACES
MOOD LIGHTING
It can be tiring looking at the same areas of our house over and over again, but sometimes even the tiniest of changes can make the biggest difference. Swapping your cushions over every season or rearranging furniture can give a new perspective on a tired space, giving a fresh new look without having to completely redecorate.
Create cosy corners and intimate spaces by introducing new sources of light into the room. Overhead lighting can often feel harsh and aggressive which is no good when you want to relax. Use a rustic lampshade by Rosa & Clara Designs to create an inviting space for you to unwind in, or the concrete suspension lamps by Fons & Origo to add a statement piece to a bland space.

ADD ART Finding the perfect piece of art for a space can often be a lengthy process once you’ve decided on the size, the colour palette and even which wall you’d like to hang it on. But whether you go for a single statement piece, or a feature gallery wall, unique art and prints such as The Sleeping Dogs Print by Arlette Ess are the perfect way to add style to your space. A TOUCH OF COPPER It seems that metal is creeping into our homes in ways that we don’t even realise. What started off with chrome taps and metal finished kitchen appliances, has turned into a fully fledged, liquid metal obsession, with it being featured on everything from dainty home accessories, to feature pieces of furniture. Add tasteful copper accents into your home in the form of candles by WtR London, a luxury lifestyle brand creating womenswear and homeware pieces for the modern woman. Their sharp scented candles have an ethnic touch and are a welcome addition to any room in the home. Keep tones elsewhere in the house cool and earthy with minimal accessories like the brick vase by StolenForm, or the Oak Cone lamp by Storm Furniture, for a subtle yet elegant way of adding new dimensions and height into a space.

The bohemian aesthetic is not just an interiors trend; it’s a way of life. Colourful, free spirited, and heavily influenced by distant lands, exotic fabrics and alternative cultures. It’s no longer a trend reserved for the poor student who uses a wall hanging or tapestry to cover up mould infested walls; it’s the epitome of cool, an indicator of a laid-back, fun-loving lifestyle with an eclectic home to match it.

Us Brits know the power of a good cup of tea, especially in the winter months when it’s dark and dreary outside. Some might say that it even has healing properties, and that’s where ZENS Lifestyle come in. Founded by a collective of creative minds who care about design, their aim is to bring oriental tea culture into European lives, using tea to create opportunities to reflect, stay healthy and socialise.

RAW PRESS MADELEINE SHAW Raw Press last month announced their new partnership with Madeleine Shaw, best selling author of cookbook’s Ready Steady Glow and Get The Glow, and the guru behind the Glow Guides app. Madeleine’s philosophy is centred on enlivening the hottest, healthiest, and happiest you with every bite of food you consume; something which Raw Press can totally get behind! Madeleine’s journey started with a move to Sydney, Australia where she began reading about food and working in a healthy cafe. This inspired her to pursue her passion for wellness and set up her blog posting simple and delicious nourishing recipes and tips on wellbeing. Madeleine has developed a series of recipes inspired by Raw Press juices, and The Sett have been lucky enough to get a sneak preview of her Bircher Muesli infused with the brand’s no. 6 Citrus Juice. We look forward to seeing more from the collaboration with the entire recipe series due to go live on the Raw Press YouTube channel, and to be featured in their new online magazine, over the coming month or two.
