Start!
Everybody has amazing ideas, be it a product, a business or a service, but they don’t start. Until you actually start something, you will never know; you could be the next billion-dollar brand! So, start! Don’t wish, do!
2|
Work hard every single day.
Becoming successful is not a race, it’s a marathon. The companies that are going to succeed are those who do the work every single day. Slow down, relax and just have a strong and steady workout.
3|
Accept that mistakes and failure will happen.
Everyone makes mistakes. If you go into it with the mentality that failure is a part of success, it will make those mistakes a learning process. So rather than being devasted when something unfortunate happens in your business, you will be able to say; how am I going to fix this? How am I going to make sure this never happens again?
4|
Ignore the noise.
A lot of the most brilliant minds and brilliant ideas, come from thinking outside of the box. That might not always be accepted. Listening to opinions that affect your vision and dreams is a mistake. Trust your instinct.
5|
Don’t live to work.
A lot of entrepreneurs have that problem; they let their business become their life. You need to remember that work and success is not everything in life. Make sure you find time for family, friendships, and experiences so that there is a balance.

power dress 7 REASONS WHY YOU SHOULD
1)
Do it for yourself!
Decide that you are worth the effort! Stepping up your game when it comes to your appearance requires extra effort from your side. This starts with your personal grooming and then finally the clothes that you put on your back. Always remember that this step is an integral part of building a strong personal brand.
2)
Confidence
If you look good, you will feel good, and this will have a domino effect on your confidence. The difference between someone who is confident and someone who is not is the belief in their own abilities. Why not dress to increase your confidence? You can’t lose!
3)
Murphy’s Law
You know those times when you quickly went to the store with the worst hair and style day of your life? That was the day you bumped into your crush or your boss. Murphy is a real person, and you never know when he might show up. Dress to impress because you never know when you meet someone important. Important meaning a big client or a significant connection.
4)
You will make a great first impression
Before you speak one word, someone has already judged you just on your appearance. This has nothing to do with your body shape or facial features, but instead, it has everything to do with how you present it. Taking care of yourself and dressing well says something about you. Remember that even if your image is not important to you, it might be imperative to your next client or future investor.
5)
Create a certain vibe for your business and brand
You need to decide what your brand and business stand for. Are you a fun and creative brand? Because then you might include creative designs in your dressing style. Think along the lines of prints and textures or quirky neckline styles. You might be a serious more conservative brand, where you would need to include minimalistic styles with no fuss. The vibe you send out with your style will ultimately be the vibe clients, colleagues or investors associate your brand with. It is essential always to keep your dress professional and powerful no matter your profession.
6)
Playing the power card
When you are power dressing, you could level the playing field. Say you meet someone who has a reputation for being intimidating; the power of your level of dress could potentially catch them off guard. If it does, it would already be worth it and help you get the upper hand. If you are naturally shy and reserved, use power dressing to help you fake it until you make it!
7)
Reputation and expectation
Building your brand means building a reputation and expectation with people. Think about this; you spend hours and lots of money in developing a positive and visually pleasing brand identity. If I look at your branding and I am impressed with what I see, but your personal image does not match my expectation that would be disappointing. You are your brand, and your brand is your reputation. Create an appearance that installs confidence, trust and respect in others as well as in yourself.

CREATE YOUR OWN A-LIST STATUS BRAND
1
Please tell us about a bit about yourself.
I was born in Houston, Texas. Growing up I dreamed of becoming a lawyer, so I moved to LA and went to law school, I passed the bar and started practicing as a lawyer – I hated my life! Being a lawyer just wasn’t for me. I felt unfulfilled and could not tap into the creative aspect of my mind. I quit my job and decided to pursue my dreams in beauty and fashion. I figured that I will always have my law degree to go back to. Thankfully everything worked out, and I didn’t have to go back! The first company I ever launched was a bikini line. After a while, social media and online retailing flooded the market, and my bikini line became irrelevant.
2
You were a reality show in Shahs of Sunset. How did that change your life?
It changed my life in so many ways! The pros: It gave me a platform where millions of people could discover me and my brand. I had my bikini line on the show. People were watching you, whether they love you or hate you on the show, they were discovering you. It did give me that platform for which I am very thankful. The cons: I was on a reality show! It is a lot of fighting, a lot of negativity; just drama. I am a nonconfrontational person, so I quit the show after a year and a half. I don’t regret doing it since it gave me the exposure.
3
Tell us about Lilly Lashes. Why eyelash extensions and where did it start?
Of all my businesses I am most proud of Lilly Lashes. It has grown to become the number one most successful prestigious lash brand in the world. I was filming Shahs of Sunsets at the time, and my character was me; big hair, big make-up. We only had two options of lashes. Barely there or Halloween! So we were taking human hair and gluing them on to our pairs to get the look that I wanted. The lashes alone took 30 minutes, and I told myself that there had to be a better way. I found a lash manufacturer, glued together my four pairs I sent it to them, and they made me one lash that had it all. I decided to do a blog post - there was no Instagram at the time - and said: ‘hey, I made these lashes, does anybody else wants some?’ I received hundreds of emails and realized that I am not the only one that wants glamorous lashes.
Lilly Lashes is now available at Sephora. How did you go from selling 4 online to being available in retail? Online is the way most people shop nowadays. But when you need a product last-minute, you need to be able to go to your neighborhood store and pick it up. It has made us a lot more accessible to every 12 | AUGUST 2018
glam girl. There is no wait time, no shipping cost; you can walk in and walk out with your Lilly Lashes.
Has your vision for Lilly Lashes always the remained the same, or has it 5 changed from time to time? It is always evolving. It is true for every business; you have to evolve with society. I think when I started I never imagined I would make lashes for men. And now we make lashes specifically with men in mind. Our brand is tailoring; not just to women who wear makeup, but also men.
6
What advice can you give to female entrepreneurs who want to dominate their market?
Market leaders are always innovators. If you have a product that fulfills a need, the potential is huge. Be innovate and market yourself as best as you can. You can have the best product in the world, but if nobody knows you exist, you will never dominate your market.
Lilly Lashes has collaborated with the world’s biggest stars; Kim Kardashian, 7 JLo, Christina Aquilera, Chloe Kardashian. How did you get your brand into the market?
Celebrity makeup artists are a huge market for my brand, and that’s who is doing Kim’s makeup. I got Mario a package of lashes; he loved them. He used them on Kim, and then Kim loved them. You have to find a creative way to reach your market.
What process do you need to follow when launching a new product, 8 collection or new collaboration? Look at your customers. How old are they, what is their income level, where do they live? You need to tailor your main products for them. Know your market and predict future trends. Don’t just launch what was successful last year, as it might not be popular this year. Aside from learning your customer, determine the market industry and try to predict where it is at.
you prefer Facebook, Instagram or YouTube? 9 Do
I like Instagram because it is easy. I recently started a YouTube channel that I am having a lot of fun with, but it is so much hard work! You have to film the video, edit the video. It is a lot easier to just take a selfie and post it on Instagram. So, I prefer Instagram. I do also like Facebook because it allows clickable links that can be very useful. Woman Entrepreneur | Global
www.womanentrepreneur.co | 13
you use your social media platforms differently? 10 Do
Instagram is more for instant gratification, but you have to also keep in mind that two hours later that post is irrelevant. YouTube you have to keep in mind is Google-searchable. The content you are going to release on YouTube needs to be tailored to people searching for your product. I think that YouTube has a bigger impact as far as our product goes. If someone takes the time to watch a YouTube video, they are dedicated to watching. Versus Instagram; you’re just scrolling, so you only have a minute to grab someone’s attention.
What is your advice to entrepreneurs who want to build 11 their Instagram platform organically? My advice is the same as I have for your business; it’s not a race, it is a marathon. You need to pump out new content every single day. Don’t get discouraged if after two months, after one year you haven’t had your big relevant break that’s skyrocketing you. All you need is one engaging post. An example I love is NikkieTutorials. She was on YouTube for a very long time before she became extremely popular. She had that one video, the power of makeup, where she only applied makeup to one half of her face, and the video went viral. Just keep at it, keep posting every day. Decide who you are on Instagram, and just be that.
12
How do you get attention on YouTube?
The trick is to get the attention of someone influential. Whether it’s on Instagram, Facebook or YouTube, there are people that are extremely influential all over the different platforms. If you can reach someone influential, you are naturally going to reach every person under them.
What are your tips for people who want to build their first 13 e-commerce store? And are there any
specific apps you use to make things a little easier? Lilly Lashes is built on a platform called Shopify. It is idiot-proof! I would encourage anyone who wants to launch an e-com store, to look at Shopify. We use a promo app called Ultimate Special Offers to run sales, like buy-one-get-one-free promotions. We also use Shipstation, another plugin that makes it super easy to ship orders when you are getting thousands and thousands of orders a day.
14 | AUGUST 2018
I had a lot of people discouraging me. Telling me, it’s too much; it’s too dramatic. You’ll waste your time... And Lilly Lashes ended up becoming the most successful lashes in the world! Do you think it is harder to have a product-based company than a 14 service-based one? It is harder to start up a product-based company because of the initial investment, but the reward is also greater. Whereas with a service-based company you are one person with only two hands that can be in one place at a time. Having a product-based business, you reach billions of people all over the world at the same time. It is a bigger risk, but the reward is also more significant. Woman Entrepreneur | Global
www.lillyghalichi.com | www.lillylashes.com LillyGhalichi OfficialLillyGhalichi you could do it all over again, you change anything? 15 Ifwould
I would change so much! I would have launched my business earlier. I had a lot of people discouraging me. Telling me, it’s too much; it’s too dramatic. You’ll waste your time... And Lilly Lashes ended up becoming the most successful lashes in the world. I would have ignored the noise and do it earlier.
If you could give aspiring female entrepreneurs one final piece of 16 advice, what would that be? You can have it all. You truly can. So don’t think “I either have to become a business person and forget about wife and kids,” or “I am just going to be a wife and kids, which means I can’t be a business person.” You can have it all. So change your mentality into “I can do it all. I can have it all.” And you will be able to have it all. www.womanentrepreneur.co | 15
H
ave you ever heard the saying, “You are what you think”? Or “What you think is what you become”? These sayings are true for a number of reasons; including the fact that our brain and body are not separateour mind responds to what it is “told” to do, from a cellular level. A thought is an electrochemical event taking place in your nerve cells, producing a cascade of physiological changes. What this means, is that every time you have a thought, there is biochemical reaction in the brain- you make a chemical, which in turn is released to the body, and that in turn, results the initiation of a matching set of reactions within the body, in alignment with what the brain is thinking. The cycle is completed by the body then sending a message back to the brain, to confirm that it is feeling what the brain is thinking; then acting accordingly.
THE POW
in your pe
Mindset is so powerful; the power of the mind is like no other. This is where the journey begins. While we can’t rely entirely and purely on our thoughts (as our thoughts need to translate into words and then actions to manifest dreams and intentions), it is where we begin. Where our attention goes, our energy flows. Affirmations are a great place to start- they assist us in getting clear in how and what we wish to think and believe. The word affirmation comes from the Latin affirmare, which means “to make steady, strengthen.” Therefore, when it comes to yourself and your business, it is essential to create awareness about the messages you want to send to your cells and have them act upon. What do you want you and your business to become? Our experiences also play an important role. You can live in a predictable future, based on the memory of your known past. This is yet another way we can get stuck and keep ourselves from changing. We start worrying about future events based on experiences in the past, affecting our ability to be completely present in the “now”. So, it goes to say the opposite is also true. When we begin to worry about or anticipated unwanted future experiences; or for some, even obsess about worst-case scenarios based on a memory from our past; we are still programming the body to experience this anticipated event before it occurs. In this instance, your body is definitely not in the present, but neither is it in the past. Instead, it is in the future, based on some construct from the past. The body can’t tell the difference between what is happening in reality or what you are thinking about mentally; the body is just in the event. Physiologically you will experience the event as though it was actually happening, causing your body to already be living in that stressful reality. Then, when the event actually happens, how can you possibly expect to have a different outcome? With consciousness and awareness, we can condition our bodies to live in the future through making a conscious decision to focus on the desired outcome or new experience. We can focus on an intended or desired future and plan how we will behave and think. Through this clarity, the thoughts we are experiencing will begin to become the experience. From the thoughts come the emotion. We can start to experience the emotion of the possible occurrence of the future event, the body (as the unconscious mind), will begin to respond as though the event is actually unfolding. Which would you prefer? There is so much power (and benefit) when creating consciousness from within and learning to stay present and sever your connections with the past. You have the ability to create wonderful, new outcomes and future! Rather than ruminating, worrying or obsessing about events of the past, obsess instead 16 | AUGUST 2018
about a new, desired experience and future - now. Allow your body to accept or believe you are experiencing the elevated emotions. This practice has worked for so many people! Affirmations are a great start to this practice; helping to strengthen us by changing and forming new patterns in our thinking. Through this, we can fully step into our full potential as an individual, as a business, of an action or outcome you desire. Every thought and sound is energy. When you release thoughts and words of doubt and resistance, the energy of your words will repel the universal force against you. Have you ever heard the quote by Henry Ford: “Whether you think you can or you think you can’t, you are 100% correct”? Relinquish fears, doubts, and negativity; and through the pure power of belief and affirmation, create your future and bring your business to its full potential with daily affirmations and self-affirmations, to bring to you all that you desire. Take a moment and think of all you wish to create in your business… Woman Entrepreneur | Global

1. Be Courageous
Launching a brand is not for the faint of heart – it takes courage and tenacity to build something from nothing. Prepare yourself with extra courage and confidence for a road with much doubt and criticism and write down a reminder for yourself; when things get tough, keep going.
2. Value yourself
In a saturated market where every bidder will be throwing out the lowest price, remember point one: don’t doubt yourself and stick to the plan. Cheap price tags do not create loyalty to your brand. It only creates “loyalty” to that price tag. As soon as your customer is offered a better price, they will jump ship without giving you a second thought. Brand dominance is created by having the highest brand value, not the lowest price tag.
9. It is all about the logo Is your logo important? One of the first things you will always hear about your brand is that it is more than a logo. While this is all good to say it is essential to know the logo is one of the celebrities to any brand. It is the one constant that is seen in everything you do, the face and the way people perceive you as a company.
10. There is no manual
This is no cookie cutters club – you won’t find a good brand in that club. Originality is something you need to apply to every last inch of what you do. Be original, be unique and do it better than everyone else.
Brands are built on highlights of the past or upcoming hype. While the highlights have blueprints becoming a soon type of hype does not. Both things have something in common when you are building your brand. It is a bumpy road, and you are likely not able to pick up a manual for it. You are going to find yourself in territory that feels scary but if you stay on track and get the job done, you are likely to have people asking questions like “why didn’t I think of that?” Build a culture around innovation and creation and don’t be scared of that. Successful brands keep going, even when people are asking “what are they thinking.” Be bold!
4. Creativity is not dead!
11. Find your right audience
Engineer ideas – don’t settle. When you have an idea, spend the time to break it down and build it. Creativity is where you find all the juicy stuff that customers love best.
Great brands adhere to this important detail: A lipstick will complete your look is just a fact. To the wrong audience, it’s irrelevant. But to the right audience, it’s a passion. Find your right audience.
5. Know the difference
12. Deliver
3. Be the original
It is crucial to know that social media isn’t a brand strategy, it is a platform where you can execute part of your plan. The one thing we can’t stress enough is to remember that you need to have something valuable to say. That is your strategy; the content you place on platforms like social media.
6. My competitor’s product isn’t that good!
But my product is better? I am sure you had said this before and wondered why another product is outselling you? Likely it is their brand – history is filled with it. Superior branding will surpass a superior product 9 out of 10 times. Why? Because customers will buy from who they remember.
7. First impressions count
You have heard the saying “first impressions count.” This goes for your brand too. A customer has a first moment with your brand to either fall in love or to keep looking. Which would you rather it be? Be honest with yourself and look at your brand with fresh, objective eyes and ask yourself if your brand makes customers stop in their tracks or are you part of the consumer amnesia that is common with 8/10 brands daily.
8. Passion is key
FACT: People never get passionate about mediocre. Nobody searches Google for an “average mascara that does the job.” People search for the best and get all giddy, like on a first date as the pursuit kicks off. They will ask their friends who will tell them about 1-2 brands they can remember. Or they will search social media that will deliver brands their friends are looking at most or the brands with the best strategy and well, we know how this ends. 18 | AUGUST 2018
Do it on purpose! Great brands ask questions and deliver on purpose. Ask your customers what they want and then provide it without guessing what it is they want. A good brand will deliver what the customer wants not what they want.
13. People buy solutions Today’s buying market is different. Purchasing behaviour is an evolution, and many brands make the big mistake in trying to “sell their stuff” rather than clarifying the problem or convenience people are buying. People don’t buy products; they buy solutions.
14. Leave your mark Do you know what is sexy? Having something that someone else doesn’t. This goes for your brand too. An alluring sense that you can offer something that other brands can’t. Set this as your standard and make it your brand stamp. People can’t help following sex appeal – what is your brand’s sex appeal? Now you have some powerful secrets to build a brand like a pro. Consider this the ingredients to brand success. The most effective way to leverage these secrets is to focus on one to two of them every few days and take some action into implementing them into your brand and your strategy. These kinds of tips don’t happen overnight – they take consistent hard work to implement, follow through and see success. Go back to point one; be courageous and start today! We promise, a month from now, you will feel more in control of your brand than ever before. You may even be reaping the start of the fruits it will bring. Woman Entrepreneur | Global
In the daily battle of brand recognition you need to ask yourself: “will your potential customers think of you when it is time to buy? Let’s be real here; branding is consistent hard work once you know what the hell you are doing. For your customer, it is overwhelming to record everything they see each day mentally. Subconsciously they will let things fall away, and this is likely to be your product or service if you have not mastered the art of a badass brand.
Whether you have never put any thought into this topic, are failing at it miserably or just need a little nudge in the right direction, we can have you branding like a pro in no time – we all need to start somewhere. We found an excellent place to start, exactly where your favourite famous brands started. When we got started, we decided to study some of the top performing brands in the world and also the fastest growing start-ups. We found they all had a few things in common. The kind of growth you are seeking doesn’t just happen. It’s made to happen, by following a basic formula to create your brand before you hit the ground running. We all need a plan, right? Here are the core branding principles we found in major brands all over the world to help you brand like a pro.

1] Give us a bit of background about yourself and when and how your entrepreneur journey started? Have you ever sat through a boring presentation? I have. And delivered boring presentations too! You know the ones; too much information, death by PowerPoint, monotone voice… In my journey as a Project Director, I overcame a range of barriers to become the youngest female civilian to direct a billion-dollar acquisition program. This acquisition program was within Australia’s largest project management organisation, the Defence Materiel Organisation. During my years in project management, we had to listen to the top executives deliver presentations. These guys were highly technical, super smart and well, boring. I mean so boring that when we walked out of there, without fail, someone would turn to me and say ‘well there’s an hour I’ll never get back’. I don’t know about you, but I don’t want to waste my time or my audience’s time! I felt frustrated. I thought ‘there has to be a better way’. How do you engage an audience? How can you connect? Can presentations indeed be fun? These questions set me off on a journey and a half. Around the world, I went to the USA and Asia to learn what I call the million-dollar Secrets of the Speaking Greats. I discovered that presentations could be fun when you have the right tools, and I found that my passion was the combination of public speaking and helping people. Despite warnings from family and friends, I quit my job and started my own business. I’m known as The Speaking Stylist, and I’m obsessed with helping people with public speaking. I deliver online programs, present live workshops and do speaking at events and my presentation skills are best described as interactive and fun. My absolute passion is to enable people to connect with their audience through public speaking that engages, energises and elevates their audience. I help my clients to tap into their unique speaking-style (hence my title The Speaking Stylist), ban boring (ditch the bits your audience won’t love), carveout a core message that creates memorable moments, and channel nerves into positive energy, and much more. I give my clients the ability to become a force of FABULOUS for their audience. I’m on a worldwide mission to create 10,000 million-dollar speakers. When it comes to public speaking, my mantra is: “Let’s Ban Boring and Have Fun!”

2] Do you ever get demotivated and what do you do to keep on moving forward? I hardly ever get demotivated. I generally have the opposite reaction, ha-ha. My superpower is my energy and enthusiasm, so my challenge is to remind myself to stop! Seriously, I am currently learning the power of Self Love and Self Care. I think, as entrepreneurs, we are so passionate about what we do that there’s a temptation always to keep working, keep stretching and we often forget to take care of our wellbeing. You can easily get lost in your entrepreneurial creations. The thing I’ve learnt here is, when you stop and switch to do other things, you free your mind for more creative thinking. So, it’s a must!
3] What are the three business and life lessons you have learned on your journey so far? I have a collection of 12 Life Lessons. The three that I’d love to share with you, including a speaking one, are: 1. When public speaking, never forget “INAY-IAYA. It’s my mantra that means “It’s Not About You, It’s About Your Audience. INAY-IAYA is the biggest lesson I learnt from the world’s greatest speakers. Leave your ego behind, have an attitude to help and serve your audience, and they will love you. 2. Mindset: Take charge, free yourself from your past, shed old emotions that are not serving you and holding you back. I’m talking about those that you don’t even know are there. I didn’t realise this when I started my journey. There were a lot of beliefs I held from childhood. I did my mindset work, became a Certified Practitioner and Coach of NeuroLinguistic Programming and freed myself from the past. It’s immensely powerful. As a speaker, your audience can pick up on your certainty and confidence levels. As I say “A Speaking Journey is a You Journey. You have to be the best version of you. You have to show up wholly every time for your audience. It is you they buy. 3. Laugh: Every day! Laughter is such a great de-stressor. If we can’t laugh at everyday things, we are missing the point, taking things too seriously. This is also about the attitude you bring to all you do. Smiles and laughter are pure joy. It breaks my heart knowing that there are so many people with a fear of public speaking. My whole vibe is that, when it comes to public speaking, Let’s Ban Boring and Have FUN!
4] What do you think is more important, motivation or execution and why? In my mind they are equal. What’s important is the proportion you apply them to. I think if you apply enough to motivation to get organised and do the planning up front, your execution will be easier and less. It reminds me of the Abraham Lincoln quote “Give me six hours to chop down a tree, and I will spend the first four sharpening the axe. At the same time as entrepreneurs, we have to trial, test and measure rather than spend too much time on something that is not in demand. Execution does need direction though. So, if we get the first part right, the execution is easier.
5] What inspires and motivates you? Why do you wake up every morning, get the work done and do it all over again the next day? Two words: Life Purpose. This is what I was put on this earth to do. Knowing some people need this help now, actually, they needed it yesterday. It fires me up! I love what I do. I’m obsessed with public speaking and helping people shine on stage. I think when you discover your Life Purpose, you just know. It’s the thing that makes your soul sing and makes you happy. Everything else you worried about before dissolves as you put your energy into your dream with total and pure passion. There are some things we need to let go of. Dream big and keep the big picture in mind to guide you. Oh, plus it is total fun!
7] Since you have become so successful, how do you handle haters or people that don’t support you? What advice do you have for fellow female entrepreneurs? Great question! Let’s look at a definition of a hater first. A hater is someone who is simply ‘not my niche’. So, if someone is not my niche, they just don’t get it. They don’t get my vibe, they don’t think they need any help, and they don’t dare to dream. They are usually sitting in a comfort zone, a pocket. Someone who is in my niche gets it, knows they get it, backs themselves, has courage, gets my vibe and loves it. My advice for fellow female entrepreneurs is: You are unique, you are brilliant. You have unlimited potential. You can speak! Get out there and don’t be afraid to fail. Use the feedback you get to fuel improvement. Be like the stand-up comedians, try the material, see what works, lose what doesn’t. Always carry the power of gratitude with you and see the positive. If you have haters, congratulations! It means you’re making waves. You are challenging a norm. Keep going. You ROCK!
8] What quote do you live by and why? “Laughter is timeless, imagination has no age, and dreams are forever. This quote by Walt Disney hits the right notes with me because I love laughter and it’s such an excellent de-stress tool for entrepreneurs - and a great tool for speakers. Imagination - it doesn’t matter what age you are, everyone can find their Life Purpose and imagine what could be - and THAT’s when life really clicks in; pure joy and happiness. Of course, no one can take our dreams from us - EVER!
9] What advice can you give female entrepreneurs on the same journey who want to achieve the same success? I’d remind them of the power of Public Speaking. All of the world’s greatest leaders and influencers have this skill: the art of communicating with your audience. You can make them laugh, you can make them cry, you can make them feel, dream, see a better future, and you can educate or inspire. It’s a core life skill. When you can speak, you can shine. More importantly, you help others to shine. And fast! It is much easier to build rapport with an audience face to face than online. They can really get to know you, realise how real you are and want to, as we say in speaking, take you home with them! As an entrepreneur, there is great power in you being able to get out there and speak to live audiences confidently. Keep going. Back yourself. Don’t give up!
10] How do you differentiate yourself from your competitors, what makes you unique? My fun and fresh approach! My teachings are a blend between what I learned from the Speaking Greats (I am a lifelong learner, I never stop), my personality bringing fun to public speaking (remember, my enthusiasm is my superpower) plus my belief in diversity and love for helping people to shine (I’m a great cheerleader for others) all rolled into one. Traditionally, even the way people have taught (and still do) public speaking, is a bit ‘stuffy’. They focus on the process. I focus on the freedom and making your dreams come true. I bring the fresh and fun; that’s my magic. The way I have created the intellectual property from that as The Speaking Stylist is in my 3 V’s to Vocal Victory: ď Ž Value - making your presentations uniquely ‘all about the audience’ ď Ž Veritas - bringing out you and your personality when you speak ď Ž Voice - maximising the carrier of your unique sound I do believe that you are unique, you have unlimited potential and, when I meet you, I want to see you deliver your best presentation to your audience and have them love you.

6] What is the secret to your success? 100% of it is my Self Belief. I wholeheartedly believe in my purpose; my why. I’m a believer that I am 100% responsible for my life and everything that happens to me. Having an empowered attitude makes a huge difference. I know that I’m in the driver’s seat and that first and foremost I honestly believe that I am the best in the world at what I do. My Self Belief is unshakeable; no-one can take it away from me, it comes from deep within. When you accept full responsibility for your life, there are no excuses. It’s all in your hands and, when you get that, you can fly!

Give us a bit of background about yourself and when and how your entrepreneur journey started.
From Montréal, Canada, I am a 41-year old wife and the proud mother of three; Ginger (12), Summer (9) and Smiley, who is now five. Our family loves travelling all over the world, discovering other cultures and socialising with the locals. We thoroughly enjoy new experiences of foreign cuisine and listening to each culture’s unique music. We are passionate about dancing to new rhythms! I have a master’s degree in clinical sexology from the University of Quebec in Montreal. Sexology is not a common field, and this might be the first time you hear about it. It’s very similar to a psychology degree. I specialised in oncology, gynaeco-oncology and radiotherapy. I practised as a therapist for seven years and worked closely with individuals during and after their oncology treatment to help them cope with the impact of the treatments on their sexual life. During the same time, I coordinated a nonprofitable mental health organisation for people suffering from eating disorders. At the age of 33, I unexpectedly found myself on a journey as a successful entrepreneur and built a six-figure empire in a short period of time. I was selling Tupperware products, working as a consultant and building a team of passionate professionals. When I started out, I never expected my business to become so immensely successful. Within a few months, I became one of the top directors in North America and soon after that one of the top global directors. During this time, I made an effort to invest in personal and professional mentoring from renowned business people and, without the valuable skills I learned from my mentors, I would not have been able to become the successful entrepreneur and investor I am today. In June 2018, I decided to move away from the corporate world as National Sales Manager for Tupperware Canada to become a public speaker training and coaching like-minded entrepreneurs. I am passionate about inspiring and mentoring other people and will always value the experience I gained from both my previous professions.
2
Tell us about some of your incredible achievements.
I accomplished so much during my corporate career at Tupperware and was honoured to reach so many exceptional goals, but three achievements were truly outstanding: 1. Being hand-picked by the president of Tupperware US, Canada to become the first National Sales Manager for Canada was pretty remarkable. There were so many other well-trained successful
26 | AUGUST 2018
leaders in the industry, but I was chosen as the top candidate to lead the entire Canadian Tupperware sales force. 2. In 2012, I was the first person to receive the prestigious title of Director of the Year for Tupperware US and Canada for being the top achiever in revenue and business growth. I was rewarded number one in recruitment and personal sales in the whole of US and Canada. 3. In 2014, I became a worldwide prime Tupperware Leader.
3
Do you ever get demotivated and what do you do to keep on moving forward?
Like everyone else, I get demotivated, discouraged and sometimes frustrated with what I have to go through to reach my goals. It’s often hard to get to the top and be able to stay there. Life doesn’t make an exception for me; I have similar challenges everyone else has. The only difference is that I don’t give up. I stay focused on taking action, I move on and do whatever it takes to make things work out the way I want them to. It is my desire for freedom that keeps me going, even on my bad days.
4
What are the three business and life lessons you have learned so far?
My most important business lesson is always to delegate. I do extensive research before I get involved with a business partner, project or an investment. I can’t stress this enough; thorough research will save you a lot of time and money. My other business lesson is always to be a student and never stop learning. Read, listen to audiobooks, get coaching and training and attend events and conferences. It is essential to get in touch with successful people to learn from their mistakes and to follow their steps and advice on how to succeed. Be willing to adapt and improve, and when you become successful and an authority in your field, share what you’ve learned and inspire people who strive for success. Be generous with your advice and leave a legacy. I recently learned a valuable lesson I am sorry I never realised earlier: always put your freedom at the top of your priority list. Only then should you focus on your other needs, like financial security. I always thought that having a lot of money was more important than having the freedom to talk and be with who I wanted, where and when I wanted, to dress the way I wanted, and to be in control of my daily routine and travel arrangements without anyone’s approval or permission. You can’t buy freedom. Woman Entrepreneur | Global
5
What do you think is more important, motivation or execution and why?
To action is everything. You can execute and get results without being motivated. The ability to take action comes solely from you, and you always have access to it. Motivation is an external factor and is often not within your reach. You have to make an effort to get motivated. Whenever I hear people telling me that I am fortunate for what I have accomplished, I always respond: Hey, am not lucky! I made the decision to take action!
6
You are a very successful and influential entrepreneur. From your experience, what is the best way to market your business or yourself? To market my business, I always make sure I promote myself first. It starts with the easy step of dressing for success and dressing to impress. Never be dull in your style or have a subdued personality. The way you present yourself has a remarkable impact on how your business is perceived. You need to make an impression on your prospective clients so they will remember you, and therefore, remember your business. Be audacious, different, easy to communicate with and easy to approach. Be authentic, genuine and generous, let your actions be the voice that tells people you care about them. Laugh, have fun and love what you do. People will respond positively to anyone who loves what they do.
7
What is the secret to your success?
The secret to my success is a combination of factors; caring about people’s wellness and success, and being genuine and generous. I am an open-minded, curious individual and always find ways to improve myself. I allow myself to be coached and mentored. I have a go-getter attitude and always strive to accomplish more. I stay focused on my goal, and I don’t give up. I surround myself with positive people who lift me up. Once my goals have been set, I take the necessary action to make things work out, no matter what.
8
How do you handle haters or people that don’t support you? What advice do you have for fellow female entrepreneurs? I’ve learned over the years to avoid haters and negative, jealous people. Unfortunately, there will always be negative people not supporting you. Instead of letting them get to me, I use their negativity to empower myself, to stay in action, to always reach my goals and be successful in everything I do. I suppose we can say that they are, to a certain extent, responsible for my success. I have found that a hater is often one or more of the following: negative, miserable, jealous, lazy, has low self-esteem, no goals and fear of failing. You should never listen to advice from a person who is not successful. Haters don’t want you to succeed, because if you do, it is proof that they don’t have what it takes to make things happen, as opposed to yourself. It’s easier for them to make you believe you won’t succeed and that you cannot accomplish your goals. They make you doubt yourself and make you think you are incapable. They don’t support you and only have negative comments. They are waiting in anticipation to say: I told you that you wouldn’t make it, you thought you were superior, you should have listened to me. From the beginning of my career, I made it my mission to succeed in everything I get involved with. I will never give the pleasure to a hater to see me fail, EVER.
9
What quote do you live by and why?
Make It Happen Kangaroo (MIHK) is the most powerful quote for me. To make it happen is a call to action and it reminds me that no one will do it for me. I don’t count on anyone to make things happen for me, and I don’t expect anything from anyone. Kangaroo was added after meeting a great leader from Australia. She shared with me that in her country, two animals are anatomically not able to back off. Regardless of the danger, be it a predator or a fire, they just go forward. These two animals are the emu and the kangaroo. It’s a powerful visual that reminds me that, no matter what happens, I have to go forward. This quote has been my drive ever since.
10
How do you differentiate yourself from your competitors? What makes you unique?
I am memorable. Once you’ve met me, you won’t forget me, mainly because of my personality and appearance. I brand myself physically. My goal is: even if they don’t remember my name, they will remember my appearance. I dress to impress and always add that little extra detail. It can be a flower in my hair, a bright neckless or colourful piece of clothing. I stand out from my competitors because they all look the same and don’t dare to be distinctive. I have a unique personality. I radiate positive energy and have remarkable self-confidence that naturally attracts people. I’m very quirky, not shy, easy to talk to and I say what I think. I am genuine and perfectly imperfect; what you see is what you get. I differentiate myself from my competitors because I see myself as a solution provider. “What can I do to help you?” is my favourite question. I listen, I care and have the gift of building good relationships very quickly. I ensure to collaborate with the most successful people in every field to develop quality relationships and connections. I adapt quickly and can flip on a dime. I think ahead and outside the box. I keep learning and invest in mentors and coaches. I observe and get inspired by other work. I am different because, in the face of adversity I stand my ground and stay in the game, where my competitors would abandon the challenge.
11
What can we expect from you in the next twelve months?
In the next twelve months, you will see me coaching entrepreneurs, businessmen and -women around the world. We have the technology to do it, let’s use it. My training will also become available online soon. I am working on an exciting project coupling five successful milliondollar women from different decades sharing how they got into the trade. They will be sharing their advice on how to succeed and what to expect from the journey towards success. The Destiny Activator Facebook Page will go live this fall, and everyone will be able to share who and what inspired them to change their lives for the better and learn from each other’s success stories. I aim to support everyone that will do whatever it takes to make it happen. GET IN TOUCH WITH VALÉRIE BEAUSÉJOUR me@valeriebeausejour.com 514-886-1688 www.womanentrepreneur.co | 27
The Cost of Hiring vs The As a new business or existing owner “people” expenses is one of the largest budgets you will need to manage. However, can every business afford to hire employees? And, what happens to your business if you choose not to hire employees? Experience, as well as studies, consistently state that the lack of hiring will cost businesses much more in the long run. Let’s examine the different talent costs to help you plan and compare them to the cost of not hiring employees at all.
COST OF HIRING
COST OF SLOW EXPANSION
If you are a small to medium size business owner who did the recruiting yourself, the average annual ranges from $1,000 to $7,000 per person you hire. Are you surprised it can cost you this much? Factors you need to take into account are the following :
If you choose to wait to hire there is a vast array of things you should reflect on to determine if you are making the right decision for you and your business.
The wage or salary of the manager doing this recruiting, such as the department manager or human resources manager: $75,000 per year for a manager / 52 weeks =$1,442.30 per week. $1,442.30 / 40 hours per week = $36.05 per hour
Do you have the knowledge, skills and abilities to keep your business profitable as a one-person show? You may not have the skills and knowledge for all the roles your business needs. You also add stress to yourself and those around you (at work and home): • No succession planning
It takes an average of 4 hours to create and post a job listing plus approximately 16 hours to review resumes for this one posting. This is spread out based on when applicants apply and when you review the resumes. Most job postings obtain approximately 150 to 300 resumes per role. Next, you narrow down your pool and use 16 hours for pre-screening interviewing. Pre-screening interviews tend to be 30-45mins per interview. Lastly, you must account for the administration time such as reviewing your interview notes, ranking applicants, which could take up another four hours. Finally is background checks, allow yourself 2 hours to do this. Your total amount of time spent per posting is about 42 hours. This calculation also assumes you are not posting on a site that requires specific software or fees. $36.05 x 42 hours = $1,514.10. This is a conservative estimate per position also assuming everything runs smoothly, which is often not the case. It would take you at minimum a full week’s work time to find a suitable candidate. You also need to take into consideration what happens to your tasks and duties. Your own work will have to be put on hold, or you will need to work double time that week. If you hire a recruitment agency, you would be paying “the recruiter’s wage”, agency fees, advertising costs, maybe even career fair costs, and lastly, background checks. These costs range from $10,000 to $30,000 which are charged as a percentage of the position’s salary. For individual hiring (compared to bulk hiring) the standard fees are 18% to 24% of the person’s salary.
• Lack of stability • Damage on personal health from overworking • The frustration of other business partners or employees • Reduction in your own and others’ morale If you have a few employees or a partner, those people become disgruntled; they might start looking for other jobs, in which case you will run the risk of vital knowledge being lost. Potentially, clients will feel uncertain about your business and take their business elsewhere or will not recommend your product/services. • Lack of general sales & growth opportunities • Not staying competitive in the market • The quality of products or services run the risk of dropping as you can’t keep up with the demand You also need to consider the needs of your business to grow. Is it to overcome a problem such as falling sales, smaller margins, or perhaps you are trying to respond to competition? On the flip side, are you interested in expanding because you are succeeding and want to keep going? Although it is difficult to add substantial costs to these situations, what is essential is to understand these examples are not once-off costs like hiring. These are damaging costs which infiltrate your culture, brand and they are long-lasting. In conclusion, it is much easier and cheaper, in the long run, to have a proactive plan and adjust as needed than it is to be reactive and to recover.
Therefore, reviewing your annual budget to include hiring fees in your common year plan is a recommended best practice. If you are very new or unsure of how to plan a recruitment strategy, you can start by adding 15-20% of an employee’s salary to your budget. Once you become more familiar with hiring and the process, you will save money on some of the hiring steps, like creating a job posting. You can reuse postings for same positions, or templates you can purchase or create that will help reduce your administration time. Start hiring on a contract basis if you are nervous about not being able to pay this new employee(s) salary. Start with a one year contract and provide a compensation package with a combination of base wage plus an added incentive bonus. At the end of the one year, you can choose to make the role permanent if everything goes well. The sooner you have employees, the sooner they can help you expand and bring more experience and revenue to the table. 28 | AUGUST 2018

Love Your
7 reasons self-love is the ultimate
1)
A person who loves themselves is someone who trusts themselves.
When you truly learn to love yourself, belief and trust are natural by-products. You will become the kind of person with the confidence to trust their ideas, their thoughts and their actions. With every degree that you increase the love you have for yourself, your ideas will get bolder and more courageous. You will start to believe that you’re the exact kind of person to carry out those ideas with wild success like you truly deserve. You’ll dream bigger; you’ll take more action. You will naturally draw people to you because they will be drawn to the loving energy you’re projecting out into the world. A person who truly loves themselves and trusts themselves completely is someone who easily attracts others who will trust and believe in them too.
2)
When you expand the love you have for who you are, your belief systems will transform completely.
What you previously believed was possible for you will fly right out the window. You will start to see a world of new possibilities, opportunities and options for yourself. When you indeed begin to love yourself, you will soon feel like you have no limits. You’ll develop the belief systems and thought patterns that support the mega success you’re after. You’ll keep pushing the envelope for yourself to see what you’re made of. Every step you take that was farther than the day before, will fill you with absolute pride. The more pride you feel, the more love you’ll feel, and you’ll keep growing, transforming and succeeding beyond your wildest dreams.
3)
will completely empower herself to become the bold, beautiful leader she was born to be. You were born with a unique flavour of magic that is meant to be fostered, embraced and used to its full potential to change this world innovatively. Learning to love yourself wholly and boldly will bring out ideas, courage and faith. And those three elements are a recipe for serious success.
4)
Love always trumps fear.
Love is the ultimate antidote to fear. It is impossible to feel both at the same time. Fear will always be a factor at every stage of our lives. But someone who loves themselves fiercely will always find what it takes within themselves to conquer and overcome any fear that stands in their way. The answer to fear is always more love. Love yourself and believe in your vision so powerfully, that there’s no question of whether or not fear will stop you from moving closer and closer to that vision you’ve created for your life and business.
5)
Drown out the noise
It’s so easy to get distracted, listening to advice and chatter from the wrong people. When you’re not well versed in self-love, it can be far too easy to give in to the noise and let it send you into a swirl of self-doubt and destruction. But when you learn to love yourself
The love you have for yourself will empower you to go against the grain.
Someone who can’t manage to look at themselves and see a brilliant, beautiful, unique creature, is someone who will compare themselves a lot to others. And if they compare themselves to others, they’ll often be someone who has trouble forging their path in life and business. However, a woman who is entirely in love with herself

Becoming the very best version of yourself will elevate every single area of your life.
When I talk about self-love being the ultimate secret to the success you desire, I don’t just mean business success. When you start to love yourself fiercely, you literally transform into an entirely new and improved version of yourself. This new person you’ve become has the direct ability to attract, create and achieve more in her life. Self-love won’t be the secret to getting rich and experiencing the success you desire in business only, but it will elevate every area of your life. It will be easier to make the healthiest food choices. It’ll be easy to attract the right people into your life who will love and support you for exactly who you are, and treat you like a queen. You’ll have a stronger ability to say yes to the things that matter and no to the things that don’t resonate with you or that which does.
Learn to love yourself and watch every area of your life transform in the best possible way. I dare you!
