GIVE US A BIT OF BACKGROUND ABOUT YOURSELF AND WHEN/HOW YOUR ENTREPRENEURIAL JOURNEY STARTED IN THE MLM INDUSTRY? We are always one decision away from a completely different life. Undeniably. It’s something I experienced firsthand. January 2010. I received an invitation from my sister-in-law, Julie to attend an MLM event she was hosting. It was much to my surprise, she was the last person on Earth I expected this kind of invitation from. Even though it had disaster written all of it, I reluctantly accepted. It was more like a “maybe” along with some possible reasons why I might not be able to attend. At that time, I would not attend these kinds of demonstrations. Also, with my maternity leave nearing its end, I had little time and even less money. One could say I used this as an alibi to save my dignity. In my head, this case was closed. Feeling she was not cut out for this kind of thing, I didn’t expect a follow up to this invitation. I was proven wrong. I was caught off-guard when she asked me if I would be attending, so I said “Yes. Count me in!”. Of course, being my sister-in-law, what else could I do? On one hand, it would be a family duty, on the other, it could also turn into leverage for an eventual “you-owe-me". So, as promised, I showed up. I had a bad feeling about this and it was confirmed right at the start. Only two of the people she invited showed up. A total failure. It was sad for Julie, the MLM consultant and me to see all this time and energy go to waste. How arrogant, immature, and closed-minded of me! I didn’t know any better. That night, out of nowhere, I made one decision that changed my life completely; I decided to say yes. Yes, to hosting an MLM event at my house. Yes, to attending a guest event an hour away from my home. And finally, yes to the opportunity of starting my own MLM business. Looking back, knowing what I know now and knowing who I have become, I can’t thank them enough. I will be eternally grateful to Julie, my sister-in-law, and Sonya, that young, smart and beautiful MLM consultant. Sonya showed up for two guests, and she did her job like there were twenty of us. Even though she didn’t make a dime that night, she added two new members to her team, and one of them was me. That night, she won the jackpot!

YOU ARE A SPECIALIST IN MLM. DID YOU ALWAYS KNOW THAT YOU WOULD GO INTO NETWORK MARKETING OR DID NETWORK MARKETING CHOOSE YOU? I never thought I would one day join an MLM or even consider the possibility for it to become my primary source of income. I never thought I would change so many lives on my way and build an empire out of it or reach the 2% club doing it, but I did. At the age of 33, with a master’s degree in my pocket, and two little girls (ages 4 and 1) I became an MLM entrepreneur. My maternity leave was almost over and I had no desire to go back to the life I lead before. I needed a new challenge. It came with tough decisions. I had to resign from my position as a clinical coordinator at a non-profit mental health organization and take care of my one-year-old baby. Stressed and indebted. All daycare services were full and I was barely able to keep up with my bills. When I started my MLM business, I had nothing to lose. I started from zero. I had no clients or sales experience and I built my team from scratch. To me, it looked like a nice way to earn money and earn it fast, in order to get out of a temporary situation. As soon as I could find a daycare for my baby and a real job, I would put an end to my MLM hobby and that would be it. Things did not turn out that way. After three months, I 2 | JANUARY 2019 | ISSUE 1

realized it was such a rewarding experience coming from my MLM business and I did not have to look for a “real job”. I already found it. And it was as a sale force member in that MLM.

Also, it would be advisable to visit local team members, meet with leaders and people from the sales force. Ask them all your questions. Look at how you can structure your MLM.

That one decision I made back in January 2010 was not a plan, it just happened. I did not choose that MLM, it chose me, and it’s about the same story for everyone. I’ve never met anyone in any MLM that studied with the intention of building a business based on an MLM structure. I’ve never met someone in high school who thought they were going to join an MLM. I’ve never met anyone with an MBA that chose to build an MLM empire. Most of the time, people joining an MLM don’t have any work experience in sales. I did not either. The MLM journey usually starts unexpectedly, as you show up at an event you were invited to by someone you know and BOOM! Before you know it, you are in it. And it’s perfect like that.

These are just some ideas to help you feel comfortable and avoid frustration when you decide to start your MLM business.

Everyone who joins an MLM business joins for a reason. I wanted a better life for myself and to replace lost incomes. MLM is perfect when it comes to the travel/work lifestyle, but It remains work. Rewarding, fun and paying work.

CAN YOU GIVE US 5 OF YOUR BEST TIPS ON HOW ANYONE CAN BECOME SUCCESSFUL IN MLM? Are you ready to handle the truth? Yes, I am that kind of person. I know how starting and building your MLM business can significantly and positively change your life, you can trust me on that. I want to see you have fun doing it. I want to see you proud and accomplished. I want to see you succeeding and changing your life and other people’s lives on the way.

Tip 1: Choose your MLM. When you decide to join an MLM, it’s because you like the services or products they are offering. You probably were a customer first. Choose your MLM because you share the same values and agree with their mission. Here are some questions that you can ask yourself to help you better invest your time and money before you choose the MLM that is right for you: • How is the company structured? • Where is the head office located? • Who started the company, how, and why? • What is the history of the MLM? • How well-established and reliable is the MLM? (If it’s a new company, you need to do more research on the product and compare it to another one that has been around for more than five years.) • Is there a strong enough market available? • Who is your target? Who are your clients? (I call them “your tribe”.) • Who will you help with your services or products? (The more you know about the problems of your tribe, the better you can help them toward a solution.) • Accessibility. How, when and where are services or products available? • Does it suit you? How comfortable are you with the products or services you are about to provide? • Are you satisfied with the policies of that particular MLM? • How much does it cost to join that MLM? • Are you able to fulfill the obligations of that MLM? • Do you need to keep an inventory or not? • What are your geographical limits? • Can you sell in other countries? Can you expand your team to provide other locations? • How does the compensation plan work? • What is the quality of the customer care service? • How is their website and are they up to date with current technology? • How do they use social media and how do they market their services or products?

Tip 2: See yourself as a solution provider, not a seller. TIP 3: Get coached and start training. Motivation without training leads to many frustrations. Be inquisitive. Take examples from top leaders in your MLM and leaders from other MLM companies and then add your personal touch. Learn from the best to become one of the best. Always be on the lookout for new learning opportunities. Read (or listen to audiobooks) and attend seminars, it will help to keep yourself up to date and will also bring opportunities to meet people. Invest in coaching yourself. It’s the best return on investment (ROI) you will ever get. Don’t waste your time reinventing the wheel; copy and paste. Many industry leaders already made that mistake. Listen to them carefully when they share their knowledge. Don’t waste your time with training of lesser quality, don’t let limited access to training get in your way or the inability to get along with your upline as an excuse for poor results you get in your business. We are almost in 2019. You can access information and coaching online whenever you want.

Tip 4: Share opportunities with others. Never fear the loss of a sale or a spotlight at an event by giving it to your host/hostess or a customer. You don’t lose anything. You gain a team member that will bring the energy and passion of a newcomer. This kind of motivation often fuels them to share themselves and build a team fast. That pays off easily for they will bring with them a network you might never have access to otherwise.

Tip 5: If someone from an MLM tells you that you don’t have to work to earn an income, RUN.

There is no way this can be true. If you come across a situation like this, question the ethics of that MLM. Be smart and don’t be fooled. If you think your team won’t mind working hard so you can take it easy, live big and get you qualified for all the incentive awards, I feel sorry for you and your team. If you are not leading by example, you can’t build a strong business. The MLM world is a world of leadership. It’s entirely different from the corporate world’s employee/employer relationships, and it can’t be based on a management structure. If an MLM opportunity presents itself in your life and you choose to do it, remember this: Start small, think big, and begin now.

YOU HAVE AN AMAZING SUPPORT NETWORK ON SOCIAL MEDIA. HOW IMPORTANT IS IT FOR ANYONE TO HAVE A STRONG NETWORK AND HOW CAN THAT ELEVATE YOUR BUSINESS? What an important question! If you want to succeed in the MLM world then you need to understand that no matter how big or small your network is, it will not determine how successful or how fast you will get to the top. All you need is one person - the first person that will give you the opportunity to start your journey in your MLM business. Everything starts with one person. People think when they start their MLM business that network size matters. The bigger it is, the better. Not true. People think that the bigger their network is, the easier their ascension to success will be. Wrong again. The size of your network will never determine or predict how fast you will reach the level of success you want to attain. www.womanentrepreneur.co | 3

MLM is not all about your own network; it’s all about how fast you move to the network of your network. Of course, it’s helpful when you start your MLM business to have a supportive network, but you can and will succeed without one, trust me. You just need to know how to do it. I often meet MLM entrepreneurs that are so bitter, frustrated and angry because they did not get the support they were expecting from their family or close friends. If that’s your case, let me give you a piece of advice. No one not even your life partner, not even your mom and dad, not even your best friend - owes you anything. You can and will succeed if you have the right mindset. I know that someone’s success is not based on the size of their network or their social media skills, but only the mindset of that person and how they take action. Get your mind into it, take action, and you will make it happen. I can only be absolutely sure about that statement for one reason: because I have been there. If you think that my family was there to support me, you are wrong. No one was there. If you think my friends from school were there, you are wrong. They laughed at me. The only person who was there for me when I started was a fellow mother from my daughter’s daycare center whom I barely knew. She was a friend of a friend. Always remember: everything starts with one person. It’s all about a proper mindset.

FROM YOUR MANY ACHIEVEMENTS, WHAT IS YOUR BIGGEST ACHIEVEMENT AND WHY? What I am about to share with you is not to show off or brag about how great I was. It’s a story of growth. I always thought that my results were average. They were phenomenal! To me, it felt as if I was just doing what I was supposed to do. My focus was exclusively dedicated to selling, inviting, recruiting, and coaching. I qualified many times for achievement prizes, including trips, cars and cash. I earned many awards, but the one I am most proud of is being, in 2012, the first director of the year in Canada and US ever since the company was created more than 70 years ago. It is the most prestigious achievement that you can earn in the MLM I was in. Of course, I couldn’t have accomplished all of that by myself. My gratitude goes to all the customers, hostesses, team members, and leaders that crossed my path that I was able to make it happen and achieve so much. I was recognized as an outstanding leader in the field and it led to personally be hand-picked by the president of Tupperware US, Canada to become the first National Sales Manager in Canada. It was pretty remarkable. It was quite an honor to be the leader of all the Canadian leaders and the sales force for my MLM.

WHAT INSPIRES AND MOTIVATES YOU? BASICALLY, WHY DO YOU WAKE UP EVERY MORNING, GET THE WORK DONE AND DO IT ALL OVER AGAIN THE NEXT DAY? As an MLM coach and a former MLM leader, I realized that the main benefit of being an MLM entrepreneur was to never have to wake up in the morning! I just can’t. I have always been a night person. Maybe I am just in the wrong time zone. For me, the MLM world is all one of freedom. I was adamant on keeping that freedom and be the master of my life on a daily basis. Also, I knew through what I was doing as an MLM leader, I was inspiring other people on the way. That because they crossed my path and followed me, it changed their lives positively. I am also closely coaching and raising three young entrepreneurs - my daughters - and it’s the best incentive and motivation I need to get things done and give my best all the time. This is why I wake up at 11 am every day! 4 | JANUARY 2019 | ISSUE 1

WHAT ARE THREE TIPS YOU CAN GIVE TO OTHER WOMEN WHO WANT TO ACHIEVE RESULTS & GROWTH IN THEIR BUSINESS AND LIFE? 1. 2. 3.

Get a coach. It’s the best ROI ever. Have the right mindset. Be in action.

YOU ARE ALSO A MENTOR TO OTHER ENTREPRENEURS. WHAT ADVICE DO YOU GIVE PEOPLE THAT FEEL STUCK IN THEIR CURRENT SITUATION? What will bring you to your first million is not what you have to do to keep it, and it’s definitely not what you should do to get to two million, remember that. Invest in coaching; you don’t know what you don’t know. Let coaches and mentors show you how to get to the next level. Stretch your comfort zone, be courageous, and curious.

HOW DO YOU DIFFERENTIATE YOURSELF FROM YOUR COMPETITORS? WHAT MAKES YOU UNIQUE? I know the business and how to do it. I have been on both sides of an MLM structure. In the field as a sales force member and on the corporate side as a National Sales Manager of an MLM in Canada. Trust me; it’s a major advantage. What makes me unique is that I have many resources and methods to help anyone with their needs in the MLM world. I coach and train the best MLM leaders, but I also learned from the best coaches, business people and worldwide top MLM leaders.

WHAT IS THE HARDEST THING ABOUT ENTREPRENEURSHIP (NETWORK MARKETING) THAT NO ONE TOLD YOU? Based on my observations, the hardest thing for an MLM entrepreneur is to bring them past their perception on corporate mentality, stable income, habits, structure, schedule, etc. to an entrepreneurial mindset and lifestyle. It’s not about managing your team, it’s all about leading your team, and you have to lead by example all the time.

WHAT CAN WE EXPECT FROM YOU IN THE NEXT 12 MONTHS? Over the next 12 months, I will still provide online coaching to MLM leaders from around the world. I will be a guest speaker at MLM events and offer live online training, and I hope I will have the chance to meet some of you online and in person! Look out for my 8-week boot camp training live online and my Masterclass series in French and English - they will be launched in the first quarter of 2019. No matter if you have just started your MLM business or if you are accustomed entrepreneur, I will share everything that you need to know about earning an income from your MLM business. Customized live training can be scheduled as well. You will find more info on my Facebook group: Coaching MLM Entrepreneur. My free Thursday night tips and secrets, and Q&A sessions are all planned for 2019 and will be hosted on my Facebook group. Share my page with your team and MLM friends. As an independent MLM consultant and coach, I’ve been mandated to brand, market and to create an amazing, unique, efficient customer, host and sale force experience for a new Canadian MLM player in the eyewear industry. I am also thankful to have the privilege in 2019 to share my specific mindset and success formula with MLM entrepreneurs in two worldwide well-established MLM's. Woman Entrepreneur | Global

In June 2018, I decided to leave my MLM and not join any other MLM to give me the freedom, time and energy to speak on stage and coach and train online entrepreneurs from any MLM around the world and I LOVE IT.

Life is full of opportunities. Whichever one I choose, I am confident it will be a great success story because I have the right mindset for it and I take action to make things happen.

HOW TO:

GET OVER STAGE FRIGHT

IN FIVE EASY STEPS

The fear of public speaking is one of the five most common fears in the world. Whether you’re on stage, at an event or on a live video, speaking or performing in public can be terrifying. Part of the reason why it’s so scary is that we work it up to be this big huge thing in our minds. Succeeding at anything in life is really about how we frame things. If you want to turn your fear of public speaking into a love of being in the spotlight, here are 5 easy steps to re-frame the experience in your mind.

1)

CREATE A PRE-SHOW RITUAL What you’re doing before a speech or performance is actually just as important as what you do while you’re on stage. Creating a pre-show ritual that is tailor fitted to you and your needs is so crucial. This is a ritual you’ll practice before every major public speaking event in your life. Keep this in mind: You want to have positive uplifted energy when you get up on stage or start that video. So one key way to do that is to get your body moving. Moving your body will get the energy flowing and release endorphins. Also, think about whether or not you’re okay with anyone speaking to you or asking you questions right before your time to shine. Do you need headphones in your ears? Is there a specific song that will get you pumped up? Do you need to stand in a power pose? Maybe it’s a certain set of affirmations or a pep talk you give yourself. The key is to find a routine that makes you feel energized, positive and confident, and repeat it every time.

2)

GIVE YOURSELF PERMISSION TO NOT BE PERFECT A lot of the time the reason we’re afraid to speak in public is that we are afraid we’ll forget the words, mess up the order or stumble on something along the way. The thing is that no one in the world except you, expects you to be perfect up there. In actuality, the more human you are, the more the audience will relate to you. So one major way to get over your stage fright is to give yourself permission to not be perfect. Sure, people admire someone who seems perfect and has it all together, but they won’t be moved by that person. And the reason they won’t be moved by the perfect person is that they can’t relate to how this person will ever help them transform or change their lives! Show them that you’re a real human being with a heartbeat, and make them feel. Whether or not you got the words perfectly right, is actually completely irrelevant.

3)

REALIZE THAT IT’S NOT ABOUT YOU If you’re up on stage delivering a speech or performance, I want you to realize this: it’s not about you. It’s not about how good you look, what outfit you chose to wear, what they’ll think

about you, or whether or not you do it perfect. It’s actually only about one thing; to leave the audience better than when you found them. The thing is, if you’re all up in your head about whether or not you’ll do a good job, you’re not able to truly show up and shine like we both know that you can! So, do yourself a favour and realize it’s about them, not you. Think about how your powerful words have the ability to move them, teach them something important and help them change their lives! Consider the fact that what you have to say could actually be the exact solution to their biggest problem. Imagine that you’re speaking to them one on one, and make them feel like you’re speaking directly to them. That is what creates impact and influence, not how perfect your hair looked when you were up there.

4)

BREATHE DEEPLY The biggest tendency we have when we get nervous is to take quick shallow breaths. This causes our bodies to tense up, and only worsens the way that we feel. So not only during your performance but before as well, practice taking deep slow calming belly breaths. Taking even 5-10 slow deep breaths has the ability to calm down your entire nervous system. It’s quite profound actually.

5)

VISUALIZE THE WIN Did you know that the human brain doesn’t actually know the difference between visualizing that you’re doing something, and actually doing it? There are numerous studies that prove this theory, and that’s why many athletes and stage performers spend time visualizing the ideal outcome that they wish to experience. Take a few minutes each day prior to your big event to visualize exactly how you want it to go, in an ideal world. Let yourself tap into and experience the feelings you’d feel as if this had already happened. Feel the excitement in your heart. Visualize the way that you want the audience to be moved by your words, the actions you want them to take, and how you’ll leave them feeling. Do this often enough and you will greatly influence the outcome of the actual event.

SUCCESS STORY

GLACE ziperovich

Give us a bit of background about yourself, what you do and when/how your entrepreneurial journey started? I’m Glace Ziperovich, a fitness professional based in San Diego, CA. I was born in Brazil and came to the US 21 years ago to move away from the violence and instability in my country. I guess my entrepreneurship started when I was eight years old. I used to sell my clothing, shoes and furniture to my neighbors and they would buy anything I would offer them. I was doing business at a young age without realizing it! At the age of 12, I was working at the cash register for my family’s restaurant. The idea for business came to me five years ago when I fell in love with fitness. When I think back, I don’t know why it took me so long to open my own business. I studied to be a teacher, but I needed a career change. I’m a people person, I enjoy being around people, and love dancing. As we age, we become limited to eat certain foods, and being a food lover, I had a huge problem choosing what to eat. When my hormones got out whack, I had to do something to preserve my health. I started working out and eating healthier. I could see the transformation and felt better. One day a friend introduced me to the Lagree Fitness, which uses the Megaformer to work your core. I instantly knew this is what I wanted to do. I then decided to open Studio40 Fitness to help women become the best version of themselves. I wanted to have a place where people go to work out and have fun, make good friends and support from the community. My studio is a place where everyone feels comfortable, encouraged, welcomed, and most of all, feels good in small group. Lagree Fitness has completely transformed my body and my overall confidence. I feel stronger mentally and physically than I ever thought I could be and as a result, more connected spiritually. Since dancing is one of my passions, I wanted to combine dance with other types of fitness at my studio. I’m happy to be offering, not only the Lagree method on the Megaformers, but also Zumba, Hip-Hop, HIIT and Yoga classes.

Tell us about some of your amazing achievements? One of my greatest achievements (and I’m super proud of) was coming to the USA from Brazil without speaking a single word of English. I told myself that I was going to master the language and someday I will teach English. So, I did. I hold a Master’s in education and taught ESL classes to immigrants from all over the world. The best way to learn something is to teach it. As said by the Roman philosopher Seneca “While we teach, we learn.” I’m always reinventing myself and find it very rewarding to be able to make major changes in my life. I’m very blessed and fortunate to be able to empower women to find the best version of themselves. This comes very natural to me, and I’ve always been super positive about everything and anything in life. I appreciate the natural beauty of everything, especially in women.

What are three business and life lessons you have learned? I have been fortunate enough to face certain challenges and overcome them without getting big scars. My journey has left me with innumerable life lessons that I feel privileged to have learnt and grown from them. The first business lesson I’ve learned so far is to work harder than your competitors because when you’re sleeping or wasting your time, your competitors are getting ahead of you. The second business lesson is to be confident and walk-the-talk, even if you have no idea what to do or what to say. The third lesson is educating yourself, learning anything and everything you possibly can about the business you’re getting into. Education is the best investment you can make in yourself, so never stop learning and innovating. My first life lesson is to be humble because no one is perfect. Everyone has flaws, no matter how successful or unsuccessful they seem. We can’t waste time trying to cover or hide our flaws. It’s better to accept and grow with them. There is no greater sign of confidence than self-acceptance. The second life lesson is to respect every person you meet, no matter who they are or what type of status they hold. Life takes many turns and perhaps that person you mistreat today is destined to be your boss in the future. The third life lesson is to not be afraid to start small. Many people are afraid to get started on something because they think they need a lot. We all have to start somewhere, and you don’t need to start big. Small steps can take you a long way.

What are your core business principles and values that you will not change or give in to? Values such as integrity, empowerment, perseverance, equality, self-discipline and accountability, when truly integrated within the culture of the organization, are super powerful motivators.

From your many achievements, what is your biggest achievement and why? The biggest achievement was to open my own business because I was able to get out of my comfort zone. I’m able to prove my abilities and have my own financial freedom. I’m also super proud of creating my own logo - I originally paid experts to do it but they couldn’t come up with the design I wanted.

The second achievement is being able to work out every day, and sometimes twice a day. I never thought I could do that. I feel great and super strong. For me, exercising is about feeling good and energized.

What inspires and motivates you? Basically, why do you wake up every morning, get the work done and do it all over again the next day?

The third big achievement was opening my own Pilates/fitness studio. This was a huge step for me because I had to leave my comfort zone to do it. I don’t have a business background, but I told myself that I had a brain and I could use it to learn new things. The studio is set to open in February 2019. The next achievement was buying my dream car. I just purchased a Ferrari Portofino, custom made, in Italy.

What inspires me to get out of bed every morning is to make others smile and spread love and positivity. I’m passionate about helping others and empowering them and that is what motivates me the most. I’m also motivated by the fact that, when I leave work at the end of the day, I know I’ve helped to make a difference in women’s lives. It’s not only one person, but also the entire family because when you feel good, all the people around you can feel the positive energy as well. Seeing the smiles on their faces and watching them improve makes me look forward to going to work. That’s why I decided to open my own studio. The idea that I might provide a solution to someone’s problem is what motivates me to do a good job. To understand and empathize with people are the central keys.

Do you ever get demotivated and what do you do to keep on moving forward? It’s very easy to get demotivated, but I’m lucky to be carrying a hard-headed gene that keeps me going every day. What I do is focus on my goals and don’t let anything interfere with them. 12 | JANUARY 2019 | ISSUE 1

What is the secret to your success? I believe determination and consistency play a big role in being successful. I also believe in treating everyone with respect. I was raised to treat the cleaning lady or the gardener with the same respect as the CEO.

What quote do you live by and why?

“What is the point of being alive if you don’t at least try to do something remarkable?” by John Green We’re all in this world for a purpose and we need to search for it. If you haven’t found your passion yet, keep looking and don’t settle until you find it.

What advice can you give to fellow female entrepreneurs that are on the same journey as you, and want to achieve the same success that you achieved? Believe in yourself, believe that you’re capable. Look at the animal kingdom: a lion for example, never has to prove itself to anyone. You already know what it’s capable of. The same thing for us women, as we need to show who’s in charge.

How do you differentiate yourself from your competitors, what makes you unique? I aim for customer satisfaction. I enjoy going to a place to work out where people care for my wellbeing. I decided to offer small group classes so that I’m able to give personalized attention.

What is the hardest thing about entrepreneurship that no one tells you? Oh gosh! Entrepreneurship is taking risks and those risks are your responsibility. I would also say having a good sense of balance is hard to learn. It’s very hard to balance work and personal life. There is so much to be done in a single day; problems to solve, money to make, and goals to be reached. It’s exciting and exhausting at the same time.

What can we expect from you in the next 12 months? I’m hoping to help and inspire many people - especially women to feel upbeat, energetic and positive about their body and mind.

THE IMPORANTANCE OF

HUMAN RESOURC W

ithin my 15 + years in Human Resources, I have always felt that I chose a profession that is not well recognized or appreciated in the business market. Most people have heard about HR, have a basic understanding of what it entails, yet their interpretation is frequently related to the “negative” part of my profession: terminations. This is one of the reasons why I know I am in the right field. I am always happy to share my opinion, shed some light on and even provide tangible examples to leaders - why HR is important in every organization. Within my own business, I thrive on finding owners who believe they don’t need HR and I see it as a challenge to change their minds. By no means is this because I want to achieve this challenge, it’s because of how much I believe in what I do. I meet so many business owners who feel they don’t need HR, you hear excuses such as “we are too small”, “we have an open-door policy”, “we are a family here” ... and so on. However, without hesitation business owners will hire a new salesman who will hopefully make them money, a new office personnel to keep them organized and the headcount will continue to grow and still the same business owner does not see the need to hire someone who will save them money, keep people happy, increase productivity and keep the business owner out of jail. YES… Jail. In many countries, a business owner can be summoned to jail if they do not follow employment standards, health and safety laws or provide adequate working conditions. Although jail is not a common corrective action, fines given by the government are. In the end, a business owner could end up wasting money paying fines, something an HR expert could have helped them avoid. When you choose to become a business owner it is highly unlikely you take a course or read a book on what you need to do to be an employer. You do what you believe is the right thing to do, hire people, maybe give them a formal offer on paper, agree to a pay rate, a certain number of weeks for vacation and away you go. In the end, you don’t know what you don’t know. There is absolutely nothing wrong with this method, many successful businesses started this way. My goal for this article is for you to consider that you may need a little help and to not be shy in seeking out the help of a fellow HR consultant who can guide you on what you need to do to be an awesome employer. Even when trends are changing to hiring fewer employees and replace them by contractors/consultants having an HR expert in-house or close by is still important. Just a few of the things an HR consultant can do for you are: Recruiting, Screening, Hiring, Onboarding, Payroll, Benefits, Training, Succession Planning, Manage Employees & Leaders,

CE MANAGEMENT Performance Management as needed, Strategic Planning, Employee Engagement, Health & Safety (as it relates to employees) Employee Exiting. Can you imagine, one person can do all this? Now, this is a high-level list of what we can do amongst many other administrative duties that businesses require to stay abreast of legal and market requirements. In a nutshell, HR will help the business focus on culture and the environment striving to accomplish the organization’s goals and objectives. So why would you not want someone who can help you achieve your goals? You want people who will remain objective, maybe even have a colorful conversation with you here and there because the ultimate goal is to grow and develop. To be able to do this we need to push ourselves, surround ourselves with people that won’t follow the status quo. I understand not all HR consultants fit this description, however, I do suggest to include such questions in your interview process whether you are hiring internally or finding a consultant that will guide you from arm’s length.

HR will help the business focus on culture and the environment striving to accomplish the organization’s goals and objectives.

Good news! Coming soon will be an HR guide for you; a one-stop shop that will help all new and current business owners understand the world of HR. More news to come in a few months.

Let’s face it - consumers are relentlessly targeted with advertising every second of the day and in turn are now are more sceptical than they have ever been. Now that you are thinking about your personal brand - imagine what it looks like in your ideal world. How do you dress, write and speak? Your personal brand will not evolve on its own.
