Dubai Wealth Conference, 2018
Give us a bit of background about yourself and when/how your entrepreneural journey started. I was born in the Middle East with Armenian heritage. As a teenager, I wanted to continue my education abroad, considering the USA, Canada or England. My father agreed to send me wherever I wanted to go, provided I pass a very difficult Student Visa Exam. I passed the exam and decided to go to Toronto, Canada. My parents chose to send my younger sister with me so that I would not be alone. Looking back, I can imagine it must have been difficult for them to send two of their three children off to a foreign country. I sadly left my parents and younger sister behind and I was looking forward to the unknown. It was very difficult for us as we were homesick and neither of us could speak English! We adapted quickly and joined the community, started participating in sports and arts, went to school, made friends and life went on. I remember when things got rough, my father would say that he would send us plane tickets to just come back home. But I had the fire within me that wanted to make everything work. After I graduated from university, fate led me to work in the financial services industry where I help individuals build, manage and accelerate their wealth. I remember that I always imagined a career where I could come and go as I pleased and earned as much money as I wanted to.
Tell us about some of your amazing achievements. One of my most significant achievements was creating and producing a multidisciplinary dance theatre show called “Follow Your Heart”. It was my unique expression portrayed on stage. I put everything of myself into it; physically, financially, spiritually, creatively, energetically, emotionally, my time together with all my skills. It was a big emotional profit for me. “Follow Your Heart” had a global cast and crew of about 75 people and appeared in media all across. Our team was truly honoured when our Prime Minister, Mr. Justin Trudeau, sent us a letter of congratulations. Also, a Canadian financial magazine, Wealth Professional, contacted me for an interview about successfully managing a life outside of financial planning. Over the years I have helped many people build wealth, becoming millionaires and multi-millionaires. Their success, to me, is a very satisfactory achievement. I am grateful for the time and energy I put into learning about the universe, our extra sensory abilities and human behaviour. During this learning process, I have developed a strong sense of intuition and became very observant. I can remote view, am in tune with different energies and can perform healing. To me these abilities are important.
You are a specialist in helping people with their finances and businesses. Did you always know you will be helping other people or did your vision change throughout your journey? I initially considered studying Criminal Law, a subject I always found fascinating. Since I am interested in human behaviour, I considered Psychology at that time. I ended up studying Business. After I graduated, I wanted to enter the field of advertising and was ready to sign a contract, but things were not meant to be. Days later I came across an advertisement: 2 | NOVEMBER 2018 | ISSUE 1
“Viking Commonwealth” with a phone number. Curiosity got the better of me, and I picked up the phone. As fate would have it, the manager answered, and invited me to an interview. During the interview, he explained how everything works and how their company helps people with financial planning and investments. I was very excited! I am very passionate about my work, and I have been in the industry since the late eighties and have worked at various companies within the field. Often clients would stop me in the middle of my sentence and state: “you love your work.” Almost everyone I meet, especially older clients, would entrust me with investing their life savings in one meeting. When you love your work, your passion, energy, enthusiasm, and integrity come naturally. Trust is earned, and people can feel whether they can trust you or not. Being in this field, you must increase your knowledge in business, be adaptive to change and continuously learn new skills to be competitive. Throughout my career, I have had the opportunity to do what I love, to meet wonderful clients who would share with me, not only their financial concerns but also intimate details about their personal lives and family dynamics. I am enthusiastic about speaking on stages globally on the subjects of finance and relationships. Finance and relationships go hand in hand, and since both of these are my fields of expertise, I offer my audiences valuable advice. My passion is guidance on wealth and wellness management, specializing in tax and estate planning while bringing harmony to my client’s lives. In the meantime, I enjoy creating and producing dance theatre shows and tour globally.
In addition to your full-time financial services career, you are also the Artistic Director of the Evolution Dance Theatre. What advice can you give other women when it comes to balancing their lives? Balance is an interesting concept! I am going to share with you what I call the ‘four cornerstone philosophy of human life’. PHYSICAL Anything that is of physical matter; the body, health, food, wealth, money, physical relationships, your car, your house EMOTIONAL Your emotional wellbeing; happiness, sadness, anger, disappointment, love, the feeling of peace INTELLECTUAL OR MENTAL Your thinking capacity, creativity, intellectual discussions, mental energy, peace of mind SPIRITUAL Spirituality is very personal and unique to each person; your religion, connectivity to the universe and the cosmos, God, Goddess, all that is. The reason I like to distinguish each segment is for you to be aware of each category and pay attention to the importance of each. Our lives consist of many sectors, such as health and exercise, money and wealth, family, happiness, etc. Consider allotting all that is important to you in a circle, which I call Life. Think about what is most important to you and give it a priority number. For example, health: 1, family: 2, money: 3 etc. Think about how much time and energy you spend or would like to spend on that particular Woman Entrepreneur | Global
segment. For example, your health is good, and you would like to maintain it, you allocate 1-2 hours a day. If having and making a lot of money is important to you, distinguish how many hours a week you need to work to meet your financial goals. Continue with how many hours a week you would like to spend with the family and so forth. Now you have a priority list, and you have a percentage for the categories that are important to you. All of these must add up to 100%. It is essential that you know what your priorities are and how much time and effort you are willing to allocate. If you are married, compare your priorities to your partner’s and see how they overlap or differ.
Being an international speaker, what advice can you give women afraid of speaking in front of a big crowd? Being afraid of speaking in front of a big crowd ranks as one of the top fears. My advice is: Go for it anyways! If it does not kill you, it makes you stronger! Make the decision, write your valuable content and practice your speech. Be prepared and add your authenticity to your speech; be you!
What three tips can you give women who want to achieve results in business and life? Act, speak and dress like the person you want to be. This will attract the energy needed for results. As women, we are naturally intuitive. Follow your instincts; you know ‘when you know you are right.’ It is beneficial and only gets stronger when practiced. Do what needs to be done to get there. Write down the steps and strategies to get the results you want. If you need specific skills, get the training required. Don’t overthink the time it takes; think about the results. This will push you forward faster. If your partner/spouse/ parents disagree, find a solution. If they don’t support you, you may want to reconsider the value of the relationship. Follow my “3D” philosophy: Desire, Determination, Dedication. How badly
do you want it? Your desire level has to be at least 80% before you even consider spending time and energy on it. Why are you doing it? When are you going to start? And are you committed no matter what? If you have all the answers and they are all yes, you are ready to begin your journey. At times you will feel frustrated, betrayed, fall on your face, make mistakes, but the rewards are worth it. If God/Universe/Spirit puts that desire in your heart, it means you have everything you need to make it happen. And remember, when you are working towards something and you want it now because you want the feeling of satisfaction now, know that you will feel that sense of accomplishment at whatever age you get it at.
What tips can you give women on saving money? Based on the six-step financial planning process, cash flow and budget are the first elements of a financial plan. Look at your income; is it steady or not, or is it based on performance? We need to establish a figure. Let’s say you earn $100,000 a year, plus a bonus of $5,000 every quarter. Your income is then $120,000:12 = $10,000 a month. We need to deduct taxes from this amount to get the net income. For argument’s sake, let’s say your net pay works out to $9,000 a month. List your expenses; both fixed and discretionary. Your rent or mortgage, food, electricity and transport are all fixed expenses. If your car broke down and you have to get it fixed, it is not a regular expense. You can make provision for repair and maintenance in your monthly budget. Entertainment and leisure are examples of discretionary expenses. The key is to know your net income and your fixed expenses; then you can add discretionary expenses to get a reasonable budget. The next step is to think of your short-, medium- and long-term goals. For example, in the short term, you may want to buy a new house or a new car, or you will be off on maternity leave. In the long run, you may want to secure your retirement or pay off your mortgage in ten years. Based on your goals you need to save or invest accordingly. Another thing to consider is whether you and your partner are in a combined budget or if you are on your own. Paying attention to your net income and expenses is vital. The best solution is to work with a financial consultant/advisor.

Being a successful speaker and consultant you are shining with so much confidence. What advice do you have for women who lack confidence? I have found that, when I am passionate about and inspired by something, confidence does not enter my mind. I ambitiously move forward and think of all the steps I need to take to accomplish it. My vision and the outcome is my motivation. We come to this world with individual gifts and qualities; use your natural gifts, talents and build on them. I believe confidence comes from practice; the more experience we have, the more confident we become. Here are a few strategies; As a woman, are you comfortable doing what you are doing? For example, you are in a position, in a field that is male-dominated; can you handle it? If not, why not? I find that courage brings confidence. Are you comfortable with your self-image? What do you think of yourself? Do you think of yourself as kind, accomplished, persistent, beautiful, etc? Or are you harbouring thoughts like: “how can I compete with these people?” Focus on the positive! Your relationship with yourself is very important. Know your subject well. A proper diet, exercise and rest do your body wonders. When the energy in our body is great, we feel great, and it adds to our confidence. A good posture instantly adds to our confidence level. You need to be able to walk your talk. What are your goals and anticipated outcome? If you have the answer to this question it would certainly add to your confidence. Let’s say you want to gain confidence because you need to address an executive committee to provide a solution which will dramatically increase the company’s profit (simultaneously your income). You will need to deliver content that will attract the attention of the decision makers. This is a focus-based technique where your content takes the focus off of you and directs it towards the people you are dealing with. Furthermore, don’t ever underestimate your shining light. Remember there is no one else like you! So make your mark and speak your truth!
What quote do you live by and why? My motto is to live with Peace and Passion. I am a vessel firmly grounded on earth and yet connected to the Divine! I live my life with the fire burning inside me, and I am full of life and excitement - I am peaceful, serene and in harmony.
What are your five key principals to success? Integrity and honesty Willingness to help people I’m a visionary and able to see the big picture Have strategies and follow through on them Time and effort
How do you differentiate yourself from your competitors, what makes you unique? In my 30-year career, I have successfully managed over 100 million dollars for literally over a thousand clients as a certified financial planner through four market cycles. During this time, I’ve discovered that my private clients who have earned the highest returns and are the happiest in their personal lives have attained the “Golden Trifecta.” This means that they a) Have a predictable, dependable and secure income for life from their investments; b) Have sufficient assets to pass on and a bulletproof plan for that; and c) They pay minimal taxes. This is not possible unless you have a healthy relationship with both your money and your family. With my three distinguishable designations as a Certified Financial Planner (CFP), Chartered Life Underwriter (CLU), and Registered Retirement Consultant (RRC), and after analysing a thousand client case studies, I found that, what risks your hard-earned money even more than your investment choices, is the friction between family members. This friction is ascribable to four things: excessive spending vs saving; the designating of estate assets; the purchase choices of big-ticket items; and the potential financial impact when contemplating a divorce. In other words, personal finances and personal relationships are inextricably tied together. One thing I thoroughly enjoy, even more than speaking on global stages as far away as Dubai, is skillfully helping my clients navigate their relationships and simultaneously advise them on their finances. My mentor likes to say I’m Suze Orman & Dr Phil wrapped into one because my unique holistic approach is what I call “Wealth & Wellness” and wealth and wellness are the two critical elements to enjoying peace of mind and happiness in your relationships and life that so many of my clients are blessed to have. 4 | NOVEMBER 2018 | ISSUE 1

What is the hardest thing about entrepreneurship that no one told you? It is OK to make mistakes! For a long time, I thought I would fail if I made a mistake, but you only fail when you give up. I learned it the hard way after spending and wasting time, if it does not work, do it differently. Success is a journey, not a destination. There is no shortcut; you need to take the steps (even if you take only 2 or 3 steps at a time). There is no elevator. People will do what is best for them; they can stab you, steal your ideas, steal your money, your time and your energy. Be cautious. Having said that, people are inherently good, and their intention is not to sabotage you but to take care of themselves. What they also don’t tell you: It is all in the preparation, the details and the thoughts that were put in. Everything looks very easy from outside. On a positive note: if you create a community where each participant adds to the overall wealth or value of the business, it will be a co-creative successful union. Everything counts; your moments, your small achievements. They all lead to your big accomplishments. Have fun, follow your heart and celebrate yourself. Woman Entrepreneur | Global
BUSINESS AND LIFE LESSONS learned by the multi-talended Armineh Keshishian
Many years ago I had read that there are six ultimate fears: fear of poverty, fear of old age, fear of death, fear of disability, fear of being lonely and fear of not being loved. At the time I was making good money, was physically fit and I was in a great relationship. My parents and family were all living close by, and everything was great. I made the mistake of challenging life and said: “Bring it on!” And life did “bring it on.” I continuously started doubting myself, fearing I might end up alone with an old, frail body, no money, no family, and not being able to take care of myself. I have never feared death, even to date, but at that time I feared I will die soon and won’t be able to do all the things I wanted to. I begged the universe to teach me the lessons in a milder manner, one lesson at a time, and to please not jam them altogether. Slowly my fears disappeared, and I felt a sense of relief. I decided never to challenge life again, but instead, I ask to get the lessons more gently so I can handle it. You cannot take people for granted; not in life nor in business. When people do business with you, even if they invested all their life savings with you, for any unknown reason they can cut ties within a split second. When my mother passed away unexpectedly many years ago, I was devastated. I felt depressed, had no energy and was off from work for a few weeks. A good client of mine called to meet urgently in order to discuss and invest his new funds. I am upbeat and energetic, and I am naturally smiling and chatty. I attended the meeting dressed in black wearing almost no make-up. Closer to the end of the meeting my client said that he would think about the investment. We all know what that means! It caught me by surprise since he had a lot of money invested with our company and we were in a process of transferring the remainder of his funds to us as well. When I asked him why he needed to think about the investment, he came up with excuses, and we ended the meeting. Soon after that, he transferred all of his capital to another company. I learned that people deal with you because of your energy, your enthusiasm, and the connection you have with each other. Knowledge in my industry is a given, but sadly I was mourning the loss of my mother, and my vibration was very low. It took me months to gain my energy back, let alone maintaining high vibrations. This was a particular circumstance, but I decided that, no matter what, I will attain my full energy and keep a smile on my face. Your energy and enthusiasm are what attracts, and your energy has to be in harmony with your passion! Continuously check and monitor the progress of your projects. The people you work with are critical. People make mistakes; sometimes you are not even aware of these mistakes until it is too late. Alongside my financial planning and wealth management practice, I have been producing theatrical dance shows since 2006. During one of these shows, I had delegated responsibilities to a few people who were in charge of their departments. Unfortunately, some of the tasks did not get done on time, and I had to cancel the show which cost me a lot of money. When we work with people, it takes time to find out what the individuals or teams are capable of and how they handle challenges and situations. Everything is a learning process. I have discovered that we will get all the answers we are looking for, but not necessarily in our own time. Co-operating with the universe is essential. Over the years I had wasted so much time trying to figure things out and finding the answers before I was supposed to! There is always politics in everything; either play the game or don’t get involved. In addition, people talk behind you. You can’t control that, but you can control your reaction to it.

difficult conversations If you were to ask someone to define succession planning, you would most likely receive an answer similar to: "A strategic plan to ensure you always have people in the right place at the right time." I will add to this definition; I believe succession planning is about an organisation providing the right tools and resources for its employees to succeed. As owners and leaders, we are all in the business of people. It’s our job to coach, mentor and help others succeed. Since all people are different around the world, we know we can’t predict people’s behaviour, we can’t foresee their work ethic nor do we know people’s future career interests or plans. What we can do is have structures in place to do the best we can for our employees, for the business and all its clients. Whether you are just starting out or you are an established business, understanding succession planning (which is understanding people’s strengths and opportunities) are important to your success. A common practice in any business is to focus on people’s strengths. Leaders assign tasks to people based on how well they know they will perform. Let ’s ask ourselves why a leader would want to create more work for themselves and assign a task to someone who is not well versed in the ‘ins and outs ‘ of that task? No leader would naturally want to do that. Hence their tasks tend to be assigned based on the capability of strengths. I absolutely agree that the more you fine tune a skill, the better it will be. So if an organisation only focused on everyone’s strengths, would the organisation be at the top of its game 365 days a year? Would employee engagement be so amazing that the organisation would be considered a Top 100 Employer of the Year? Sure, this is possible. However, we are human, we have faults, and no one I have ever met in my entire life can work at high capacity 365 days a year. It takes energy to use energy. When you are good at something, no matter how good you are, you are using up physical and mental strength. What happens when someone has a bad day, and one’s challenges get exposed? Or when an employee gets tired or becomes complacent? One small mistake can damage a brand, an image and all the effort someone has put into a task or project.

Some organisations like to ignore people’s challenges while other organisations place people on a development plan to improve those challenges. No matter what your organisation does, if anything, for the most part people’s challenges and opportunities remain the same year over year over year. If and when these challenges do improve it is ever so slightly that when an individual gets backed into a corner, their natural challenged habits come out again. So why is all this important to succession planning? If you are truly invested in your employees, if you want to help them succeed, want them to move around and even obtain promotions within your company, do not accept people’s challenges and opportunities. Place people on a succession plan that will focus on changing those challenges into strengths from day one. If you want and expect your employees to work at their best every day, you need to help them be their best every day. This is not just about training someone to move into someone’s role if they are retiring or moving departments. The succession planning I am referring to is about having an open conversation about one's interests and creating a plan from day one. Have a structure in place to revisit that plan several times a year and ensuring that the plan helps the employee work on all their positive and negative attributes. Therefore, when a position becomes available, the individual will be ready to step in at any time. If and when something unexpected happens you will have talent that can do the job you need them to do and not just skim by. The old way of thinking is that succession planning is solely for the future. The year is 2018 and if you want to be ready and you want to be competitive in the market, ensure your succession planning focuses on the NOW. This will help you for today, tomorrow and for the future.

As entrepreneurs, one of the concerns that is always on our minds is attracting new clients. Those that master this skill, never seem to have a problem attracting the exact right people to join their business. But so many people seem to struggle with it. Wouldn’t you love to welcome an endless loop of your dream soulmate clients? The ones that make you certain of why you do what you do because they’re such a joy to work with. They fuel your passion, they inspire you to up your game and give more, and the work you do with them is extremely fulfilling. If you’re not experiencing the type of success and fulfillment that you desire in your business, you may be making one of these six mistakes.
1)
You’re not speaking their language You could have the best product or service in the entire world, but if you walked up to an English-speaking person and tried to sell it to them in Japanese, they’d look at you like you were an alien. I know this is obvious to you. But what may not be as obvious is that your ideal client needs to hear the words and phrases that they relate to, in order to feel connected to you. Speaking your ideal client’s language is like having a 1-on-1 conversation with an old friend; you know what they’re going through. You know what motivates them. You know what problem they’re desperate to fix, and you know just how to make them feel better. This person you’re looking to attract needs to feel that you’re treating them like a real person, not like a number, and not like a dollar sign. They want to feel heard, they want to feel understood, and they want to know that you’ve been through the problem that they’re currently struggling with.
2)
You’re not hanging out where they are If you have worked hard to build up your network or your following, and you just don’t find yourself attracting the kind of people that you want to work with, you may have the wrong people in your network. You may not be hanging out in the same places as your ideal client, whether online or offline. Finding these people is all about putting yourself into their shoes. Where do they spend their time? How do they spend their time? If you find that you’re spending a lot of time trying to connect with people without having a lot of success, I invite you to ask yourself where else you can look. What new style of event can you attend? What social media platform haven’t you tried? Don’t fall into the trap of doing the same thing over and over again, expecting different results. Get playful, get adventurous, and try out a few new things to see how you can shake things up.

You’re trying to be something you’re not There is so much pressure in our lives to be perfect, to fit in, and to emulate the successful people we look up to. And far too many people fall into the trap of trying to walk far too many miles in someone else’s shoes. Let’s just get this out in the open right now: you will never do a better job at being someone else than they will. So stop trying. Your ideal clients want to see you owning your unique magic. They want to get to know who you really are. And they’ll fall in love with you and want to buy from you because they’ll love how real you are. You remind them of themselves. They won’t relate to you if they feel you’re fake. You might think that you’re doing a great job putting on a show, or copying what you’ve seen someone else doing, but I promise you, they can see right through it.
4)
You’re not offering them what they need Just because you’re aware of what someone’s problem is, doesn’t mean that it’s the problem that they’re the most desperate to overcome. You might be trying to sell them something that they’re not anxious to learn or use. Creating offers that people really want to buy, is all about finding the perfect intersection between what you’re the most passionate and excited about, and what they feel is the most urgent problem that needs to be dealt with in their life. Appeal to the pain they’re currently feeling, and your ability to help them overcome XYZ, and you’re golden.
5)
You don’t believe in what you’re selling If you don’t believe in yourself, your own self-worth or the product/service you’re selling, there is no perfect business strategy that can help you. People are very wise, and they can read you like a book. When you don’t truly believe in yourself or your offer, the energy you put out is entirely different from a person who is 100% convinced of their brilliance and value. If you can’t get out a sales pitch or say your prices out loud without fully believing it’s worth every penny - and you are worth every penny - then you’re in need of some deep inner work and healing. Work through your feelings of not being enough, or not being worthy of huge compensation, because those feelings will haunt you anywhere you go, and with anything you try to sell.
6)
They have no idea what you’re offering I hate to say it because it’s so simple... but the most common problem that people are having with not attracting their ideal clients, is that those potential clients just have no idea that they exist. Keep in mind that, especially on social media, your followers only see about a third of what you post. So, if you want to be heard in a sea of loud noise and competition all around you, you’ve got to be the squeaky wheel that gets the grease. Speak often, but don’t just speak for the sake of speaking. Get your offers out on multiple platforms, multiple times a day, through different mediums. Videos, emails, blogs, newsletters, written posts, 10-second video stories, groups etc. There are so many ways to get your message out. Use them. Don’t expect your ideal client to come knocking down your door just because you make one post, one time, offering your services. If they have no idea what you’re offering, they’ll never be able to buy from you. Make them know. www.womanentrepreneur.co | 13

MANAGE YOUR ENERGY and connect to your success
We all wish to be successful. In striving for success, however, there is always the challenge of time. Yet, I believe it is more than that- I believe that in achieving (and thereby succeeding) there is a conflict between our consciousness of what we value, and the life we are actually leading and choices we are making as a result. Therefore, for me, it is not about Time Management, but rather Energy Management. Where are you placing your energy? What thoughts, behaviors, choices, and situations are you focusing your attention and energy on?
W
orking with and coaching clients, whether to achieve a goal, striving to find personal empowerment, value and purpose in their lives, or learning tools to manage challenges; when I try to introduce core health-management strategies such as exercise, journal writing, mindfulness, nutrition, and meditation, I am often met with the ‘excuse’ of lack of time; and it is an excuse, because we are essentially a product of our own choices (and excuses!). If we made it a priority, we can achieve anything. There is the reality of only having 24 hours in a day, so I started to think about how I could support others in successfully achieving; finding that intrinsic focus to Connect to their Success. Finding that sense of being aware, connected, structured and organized to get the results and outcomes they are striving for. I wrote a mini book, and I contain here, some of the content for you. As a woman or man in this day and age, our role is not simply one of maintaining a household or working and earning money. Rather, we maintain a household and have a career, manage our business and staff, and work in and on our businesses, all whilst trying to balance this by spending time with family and maintaining relationships with our partners. Add keeping fit and healthy on top of that, we often get the result of feeling overwhelmed and burnt-out. Your relationship with your partner and children may have taken strain and is fraught with arguments. You may be intolerant of others’ behaviors and feel that you are failing in all areas of your life. When you are trying to please everyone else you lose touch with who you are, your behaviors change, your thought patterns change, you change; and not for the better! No matter what your personal situation, it is likely you have experienced - if not now, at least some time in your life - that sense of your mind being in chaos, being unable to focus and make clear decisions, feeling time-poor, not eating and sleeping properly. That is a general sense of overwhelm, frustration and unhappiness. A sense of disconnection and dissatisfaction with life. It is now time for you to invest in yourself and learn how to retrain your mind and body to relax, so as to better cope with the challenges life brings you. Get Connected, Get Organised and Get Results! More and more, research is proving the power of mindfulness and the neurological benefits of implementing mindful practices on a daily basis. Guided meditation, driving to work via a new route and being more aware of those activities we do on autopilot. Rather than the over-active stress response, your body is currently living with, you can learn about the ‘Relaxation response’. This means you need to slow down! Yes, you heard me! Do you know that we are clearer and more productive when we take time out and nurture ourselves?
This is hard to do when we are on the momentum of striving for goals, right? However, if we do not do this - if we do not honor and nurture ourselves and our bodies - no matter who we are, we will never reach and achieve our goals or success in wholeness. We will not be able to experience our achievements in a space of presence, calmness, authenticity and true, whole success. For me, this is a significant aspect of achieving success in my life’s purpose. If I can’t do it from this space of presence and of BE-ing - with truth and integrity - it will not be success in its truest form. I also refer to The Circle of Control. This is the idea that we can, and should, look at what is happening to us in our lives in terms of what is within or outside of our own control. Unfortunately, when we feel overwhelmed and out of control, it is because we usually are. We are often focused on changing or fixing things that are not within our control, such as how someone speaks to us, the choices our friends, children, employer or work colleagues are making, and also the activities some people engage in. We get upset, worked up, and often overwhelmed by all these things. “The primary cause of unhappiness is never the situation but your thoughts about it” – Eckhart Tolle, A New Earth: Awakening to Your Life’s Purpose. This is to say that the cause of our unhappiness is our reaction to something. You need to learn to focus your energies intrinsically instead, through looking at the choices you make, the behaviors you undertake and the decisions you make. When you do that, the sense of feeling overwhelmed and out of control suddenly turns into one of control again. Another aspect of the Circle of Control is the concept of self. If you are focussing on what is in your control (you), what are you doing for you? Is your cup full, empty or in-between? How are you feeling? Fatigued, disconnected, stressed, unfulfilled? Irritable or unmotivated? Or happy, loving, energetic, fulfilled, compassionate? Where are you? Where would you like to be? When you feel nurtured and nourished, you will grow to be more consciously connected with your truth, your life, and your purpose, and therefore you will be happier, more grounded and motivated, thereby achieving more. You will be a better person for yourself, your partner, your children, your life… The only thing you can control and depend on is YOU! So, the only way you can win this battle of busy-ness, stress, panic, relationship issues, social concerns… LIFE… is to fight from within you… And that is what I am about… As the Conscious Psychologist, I help people to release what no longer serves them and to consciously reconnect with themselves. The most important thing we will ever have is the relationship we have with ourselves… “The relationship with yourself sets the tone for every other relationship you have”. Once you are connecting to and nurturing yourself, the next step is balance. Life is all about balance and managing our priorities. We cannot focus on all of our priorities every day, so in the spirit of what a friend calls, lopsided balance, we sometimes have to prioritize something in the moment, knowing you will focus on the others at another time in the day (or even the next day!). The idea here is that it is not about forgetting or ignoring something, but rather knowing it will get done at another time So, if you want to achieve, Connect to your Success- manage your energy! Slow down, focus only on what is in your control, and be sure to nurture yourself regularly. www.womanentrepreneur.co | 17
Facts tell, stories sell – it’s a fact We’ve all heard this before but just how do you craft a story that actually turns readers into paying clients? Well, first we need to understand the structure of a good story. The basics are that there is a beginning, a middle and an end. Then you need some characters – a hero, a villain and a desired person (optional). Then you need a framework – the hero (maybe reluctant) wants something and the rest of the story is the journey about discovering if the hero will get what she (it is a woman entrepreneur magazine) wants. Along the journey, this hero will encounter obstacles (or problems) that she will have to overcome. These obstacles may be physical, emotional or mental, and she will have to find a way to overcome them to get the desired outcome, whatever that may be. Now let’s look at it from a business perspective, why does business exist?
To solve problems Our customers have problems and they need help. By talking about the problems, our customers will create a deeper connection or rapport. Discuss the problems with them so that you can take them on a journey towards their goals. Your job is not to be the hero but to be the guide that helps the hero on their journey. If you have read Dante’s Inferno, Dante had to traverse the 9 levels of hell. His guide, Virgil, made sure that he didn’t get lost or stray from the path and also made it out to the other side.
You are Virgil! Another thing we need to understand is that people make decisions on emotion. Yes, there are some practical aspects to a decision but if you really want to get someone to buy into what you do, you need to talk to them and connect with them on an emotional level. No matter what product or service you sell, you want to tell them the story of what it will do for them personally, how it will change their lives and what they will be able to do with the solution you have provided.
clients, help look after 3 kids and support your very pregnant wife without sleep and being stressed out about not having enough money coming in and servicing clients?
Maybe this is where you are at right now… When I spoke to him, he knew something had to change. Physically he just couldn’t carry on doing things the way he was. He was going to burn out. And that’s when he made the decision to take the leap and move forward. To burn the boats at the shore and only go one way, never looking back.
Well, let me tell you where Daan is right now… Daan tripled his revenue in the first month of working together. His thinking changed, his belief in himself changed, he saw the true value of what he does and the services he offers and how he really helps people. It changed his entire perspective on business and on life. Daan now has 3 employees, and 4 kids (they don’t work for him… yet, they’re too young). He has moved out of his home office into an office with a view. He has more clients than he knows what to do with and better yet, they pay him what he is worth – 10X of what he was originally charging. He did more revenue in November 2017 than he did in the whole year. He hit 75% of his 2018 sales target in January. And all this happened in only six months. If you have felt like Daan, or been in a similar position, and you know you have a great message or product or service but just don’t know how to get it out to the world, book a call with me. We can work through how you can achieve your own goals and dreams by using a step-by-step system to automate and grow your business.
Simple, clean and to the point. Here is the structure to create your own story: • Who are they? (industry, company name, size if relevant) • What is the biggest problem they face?
Let me give you an example:
• Why did they come to you?
A client of mine, Daan, owns a small business selling coaching and software services. He runs the business with his wife and has 3 children. His wife is pregnant with their 4th child and is very close to giving birth. At the same time the business is taking strain as he is the only one who is running the business and has clients to look after. He is working 24-hour days, in fact, when I spoke to him, he hadn’t slept for 3 days. Maybe that’s why he bought.
• What did you help them do?
Can you imagine what it must be like to be working so damn hard, have all these responsibilities; to pay bills, take care of
Always believe in magic, Matt Clark
• What were the end results?
Go and do this exercise. If you need help crafting your own story, connect with me and I’ll guide you to achieving your dreams.

STORYSELLING with your marketing message
www.womanentrepreneur.co | 19
The Planning Stage: Your First 30 Days:
What is a SWOT analysis?
1) What is your company’s mission statement?
SWOT Analysis is a useful technique for understanding your Strengths and Weaknesses, and for identifying both the Opportunities open to you and the Threats you face. Used in a business context, it helps you to carve a sustainable niche within your market.
2) What is your vision statement, your company’s roadmap? 3) Have you established S.M.A.R.T goals for your business?
Next, go through the five steps to starting a profitable business: 1) Define your business and explain it in 15 words or less. 2) Outline very clearly your defined target market that goes deep and not wide. 3) Establish your credibility as an expert in your field. 4) Research and start engaging your target market in your business. 5) Hire a coach to help you navigate the new entrepreneurial waters. All these principles have been defined in the April and May editions of Women’s Entrepreneur Magazine, so if you missed them and want the full definitions, processes and details, check them out at, https://www.womanentrepreneur.co
Now you are ready, let’s dig in!
1)
Building your personal brand, the first thing you need to understand especially when starting out, customers and clients buy you, not your product or service. They buy you. What do you stand for, what makes you different from anyone one else, what makes clients say, “I need you in my life?” This is a hard process, we are so accustomed to introducing ourselves as a product and feature of our business and not who we are. This is going to take some soul searching and patience. You will need some guidance from coaches or those who know you best to really see who you are, the authentic you. It is probably not what you thought it would turn out to be. I am guilty of this, whenever I met anyone at a networking event I would introduce myself as a consultant and speaker. Well, if you type in consultant and speaker into a search engine, there are tens of thousands of them. Why people believe in me is because I am an expert in relationship capital and can introduce them to difference makers for them and their business. Sure, I have the experience, degrees, and functional knowledge but what makes me different is I am a connector. I relate to people with empathy by listening in order to drive them forward. What is your gift? Think of one or two things you are known for and how you can promote this as a part of your unique selling proposition for your business and in all your messaging. Build all your messaging with this expertise and authenticity in the forefront while delivering the business.
2)
Now it’s time to look externally. What are you up against? It is time for some competitive analysis. It is important to understand where you stack up against the competition. Doing an intensive swot analysis could prove to be the one exercise that allows you to shine over the competition due to the crucial insights uncovered.
20 | NOVEMBER 2018 | ISSUE 1
S – Strengths, this is an internal deep dive into your business where you identify your biggest strengths you can offer the marketplace and where you identify what makes you different.
W – Weaknesses, this is also an internal look into where you are by being honest concerning the areas you need to work on and where your competition may have an advantage.
O – Opportunities, now we are going external, outside your business to see where there may be untapped white space or a place where your unique selling proposition gives you one leg up on your competition. This is a great place to think about innovation and how to expand your product or service tree based on what you uncover. T – Threats, this again is external and a deep analysis of where your business can be threatened or vulnerable based on offerings in the industry and within your competitive set.
3)
Research, research, research… Please don’t skip this step, this will save you money and time and perhaps your business before it ever gets launched. Attend industry conferences, research competitive websites, locations, and products. Start subscribing to industry publications plus overall business publications, such as the Wall Street Journal so you can stay ahead of trends and learn from adjacent industry’s best practices.
4)
Begin to determine your company´s top competitors (4-6 competitors).
Set up criteria or a dashboard of comparisons; choose different variables to use to compare, such as strengths/ weaknesses, price, product quality, exposure, brand reputation, etc. Setting up a dashboard allows you to compare your offerings to theirs and keep track of changes in the industry, so you can be the disruptor and not get disrupted. You can use this data to uncover white space for innovation, additional revenue streams both active and passive, then go to market. Uncover what projects your competitors are targeting to launch within your market segment; assess if you can develop an offering that can take clients away from them because you were faster to market with a more targeted product line or service.
5)
I think we have finally made it and now it’s time to let the world know your business is ready to take the marketplace by storm and you have what they need and want to solve their problems. It is time to start crafting your messaging to your audience. Take all the upfront work you have done and start thinking about how your target audience would search for your product or service. What problem are you solving and what key words would your prospective client type into a search engine to find you? Be very specific and make sure you and your business alone can own your message. The message should resonate with your audience and offer solutions no one else can, in your industry or competitive set. Once you know that we can start the marketing process. Now your business is at the official start line and ready to accelerate forward, you will be turning those passions into profits in no time! Woman Entrepreneur | Global
What keeps you up at night, especially with your new business venture? You were brave and decided following your passion was driving you to leave your current occupation or invest in a new opportunity. When it comes down to it, the financial burden can be daunting. I always tell my clients you must be comfortable with being uncomfortable especially when owning your own business, but the question remains how do you accelerate your business? You want to push yourself but not to the point of lying awake every night waiting for the business to take off. In order to keep motivated, you need to begin seeing a return on your investment and a bit of revenue so your cash flow keeps you in business and not running for the hills back to the comfort of corporate America or your last circumstances. In past issues, we have discussed the planning stage for your first 30 days before you can accelerate let’s recap and make sure you have a checklist before you start spending money on your new venture.

Ask for an Interview.
A great way to connect with influential people is to ask them for an interview, especially if you have a blog, podcast or are writing an article or book. This can be extremely effective if you can leverage the interview through other media channels giving more significant exposure to the influencers’ brand and providing a more substantial value exchange for their time. Not only this, but you get to ask them all the questions you want, getting mentored along the way.
#2
Volunteer.
Many key influencers around the world have training programs, courses or community memberships that they sell. Obviously by paying you will receive the person’s valuable time and knowledge, not only that you will be exposed to their network, and who knows the connections they may have? But what if you can’t afford the program fees? Offer to work for them for free or volunteer your time to help facilitate an event they may have.
#3
Make the Connection.
Search through your existing network, your connections past and present and find two connections you have who you feel could add value to the “influencers” life (the more influential these connections are, the better), then make the mutual connection. You could do this via LinkedIn, Facebook messenger or email. Start the introduction by acknowledging the influencer and their most recent work or success and that it reminded you of a connection you have. Highlight the relationship to your connection and how you feel they could add value to the influencer, then take a back seat and watch the magic happen. Be sure to follow up with both parties in a couple of weeks. It boils down to what you can offer the person whom you want to connect with. Give more to them than you intend to receive and do more listening and less talking.

HOW TO NETWORK WITH PEOPLE
MORE INFLUENTIAL THAN YOU I’m sure you have heard the Jim Rohn quote, “You are the average of the five people you spend the most time with.” It has been said a million times over by thousands of business coaches, mentors, entrepreneurs and influencers and with good reason… It’s true! If you are the average of the five people you spend the most time with, wouldn’t it make sense to ensure the quintet is of the highest calibre possible? For me this means I want to surround myself with people who have walked the path I wish to take, who are industry leaders, authorities in their field and have achieved, or are achieving the level of success I want to attain. Just one question: How do I cement myself within their network? The answer comes down to one word, VALUE. In fact, this one word is the answer to networking, full stop. How can I add value to people who I perceive as more successful, more powerful and have more influence in the areas I wish to operate in, you ask? Well here are a few things you can do to start with.
