The Little Moments
As the summer winds down and kids head back to school, I hope you all have had a remarkable experience or two during these last couple of months. What do I mean by a remarkable experience? I define it as an experience that bring us joy, peace, and balance. Why do I call these experiences remarkable? I have found that in my circle of friends and family, these simple pleasures are often the most elusive moments in our lives. It’s as if we find ourselves running so fast through life that we don’t even take time to feel grateful at the end of the day.
The other night, I was sitting outside on our deck and looked up into the brilliant blue Nebraska sky. The temperature was about 76 degrees. Very slight wind. No humidity. It was a “Perfect Ten” evening in Omaha. (Can you believe it? In the middle of summer?) There were small, white, billowing clouds overhead. I put my head back, snapped a quick picture, and then just sat and watched them go by. It was truly one of the most remarkable experiences I’ve had all summer. I am so appreciative of those 20 minutes of pure bliss!

Finding joy in the little moments every day will make us feel blessed and fulfilled. Yes, I know that sometimes we feel so rushed that we can’t even stop to breathe. Just keep in mind that it doesn’t take a long time to cherish a remarkable moment. You don’t have to plan it. All you have to do is stop for a brief moment and match up to the joy that is all around us.
August is a big birthday month in my family. Happy birthday to my son, Adam, who turns 33. My granddaughter, McKenna, is 12 years old! My nephew, Dylan, will be 22. Happy birthday to all!
On a very special note, Manny and I will celebrate our fourth wedding anniversary on August 25th. Manny has always told me that for the first four years of marriage, we are considered “newlyweds,” but I’m not buying the idea that “the honeymoon is over.” Being married to Manny has been the most remarkable experience of my life. We talk. We listen. We disagree. We learn. We change. We grow. I will not say that it has been easy. I will say that I wouldn’t change it for the world. I love my husband more than I ever knew I could. I am looking forward to the next four years being Act II…and it is going to be remarkable. I love you, Manny. If you haven’t yet had a remarkable moment this summer…you still have time! Make it so. See you next month!
