Easy Fall Fashion Trends This Year’s Buzzword is Wearability!
By Holly Bell
Time for a fall fashion re-boot! This season has some new looks that are going to be loved by all. The general look for fall is relaxed but polished, with a special ease that makes us feel on trend but still comfortable. Designers are focusing this year on wearability. It’s nice to see fashion that is what women want and will actually wear.

We loved the look and feel of the loose, lightweight summer pant. If you haven’t gotten on the bandwagon for this trend yet, the time is now! They are part of the oversized look that is coming for fall. Look for the high-waisted, tailored pants that give you a long, lean look. There are many styles, from cropped above the ankle to extra-long trousers. Whatever you choose, this look will give you a modern vibe. With a loose look on the bottom half, it is important to have a fitted or tucked-in top—otherwise, you could end up looking boxy.
Short dresses are great for summer, but look for longer midi and maxi dresses for fall and winter. Long dresses with an A-line shape are feminine and flattering. Very popular are tops and skirts that make you like you’re wearing a dress. You get the streamlined look of a dress but the versatility of two pieces.
Blazers are going to be a hot item this fall and winter, worn as a jacket in the fall and under a coat for extra warmth in the winter. Blazers offer a polished look when worn over jeans, trousers, or a dress. Shoulders will be a bit bolder and sharper, reminding us of a modified ’80s trend. Last year, the blazers were longer and looser, and that trend is moving forward.
Pair a blazer with a fitted solid top so you don’t have a lot of bulk underneath. I really love the look of a blazer over a tucked-in top with belted trousers. Slimming, sharp, and put-together! White tanks under blazers always look great. Two-piece suiting will take the well-dressed professional woman to new heights this season. The blazer is the star piece, with mix-and-match skirts and trousers being offered.
Bomber jackets have come roaring back with the return of Top Gun fashion. They have borrowed the long, loose look that is so hot for the fall. The bomber jacket is a great look for fall when paired with jeans and a chunky boot.
In the fall, we usually tune in to colors like browns, golds, and burnt oranges. Not this year! Dopamine colors prevail, with brights headlining. We are not used to seeing these colors this time of year, but it is refreshing to carry your bright colors into fall. Bright red was all over the fall runways for 2023. Fashionistas are predicting it will sweep fall fashion this year, with many designers making scarlet their key shade for fall.
Think you can’t wear red? There are two key coloration tones in red. One is a blue-red, which looks great on brunettes, and the other is an orange-red tone that is great on blondes. Try both to find the red that works on you. Too shy to go all red? How about a red handbag or ruby slippers? Just a touch of this on-trend color brings your outfit up a level.
There is always an appetite for classic, minimal wardrobe essentials and staples that never go out of style. Keep wearing these favorites, but add a couple of on-trend pieces to spice up your wardrobe for fall 2023. Having fun with fashion is what it’s all about! Sometimes, it just takes a few pieces to refresh your look.
Fall is the time we start thinking about holiday celebrations. Dressing up will be fun this year, with sequins, silk, satin, feathers, and even a bit of fringe! On the flip side, ’90s minimalism is also coming back into vogue, with column dresses in solid colors. The focus here is on cut and tailoring. Minimalism always looks chic! It’s fun to show two sides of your personality with these opposing trends.
Finally, shapewear. It’s not a new concept, but it has come a long way from the girdles of the 20th century. Smooth silhouettes are always in style! No matter what your size, you will always stand a little taller, feel a little slimmer, and still be comfortable in the shapewear of today. Size up if you like; it will still work to smooth things out. With the hot weather behind us, we have no excuse not to try this ongoing fashion trend. It’s time to start thinking about cooler temperatures and how gorgeous you are going to look this fall!
