DOWN TO BUSINESS with Michelle Hill-Smith

THE SEASON TO BE YOURSELF AND NO ONE ELSE. Often times, the first thing that draws people to you is what they immediately see on the outside. It doesn’t have to be your voice, your conversation or anything internal. They are often drawn to either the way you look, how you act or what you’re wearing. It’s something that causes people to want to get to know you. The con is that the admiration also causes us to want to be someone else. The sad part about this is that, once they begin talking to you and getting to know you better, you change. Actually, you become the real you. You get comfortable. No more façade or masks. Why is it more difficult for people to just stay the same and work with the beauty and uniqueness they were originally given? It makes you wonder. When coaching, the first phase of my Smarter Business from Home program starts off with a section on “showing up for business with your own face attached” which teaches my students how to search for, accept and build on their own identity before anything else. Only 80% of my students get it right away. Then, there’s the other 20% that remains adamant about keeping true to the identity they’ve adapted from someone else they admire in their field of business. In conclusion, you can never find who you’re truly meant to be if you’re not sure who you are now. Securing opportunities will be more challenging if others aren’t able to trust your character, feel comfortable working with you or for you. Learn to love you. Your talents, gifts and characteristics are what makes YOU unique. It’s much easier and more rewarding to just be. Build upon who you are. Let go of that other person.

Is life calling you to start over? By Tanya Angelique

Women’s Elevation Magazine | May 2013

8

Could it be time to wipe the slate clean and begin again? This can be a scary place for most. It’s understandable. This is my attempt to encourage you to fight through this short-term discomfort as it may be the key to your success. To help determine whether a “do over” is right for you, ask yourself these questions… 1) 2) 3) 4)

Can I be the best in the world at this new endeavor ("world" defined as YOUR world)? Do I have access to the resources to follow through and make it happen? Will the reward truly be worth the effort? Should I get to work, or go back to the drawing board?

If you can answer “yes” to all of these questions with reasonable certainty, go for it! The reason being is that most will quit when the going gets tough, and believe me… it will get tough.

We live in a world of where the tougher the road gets, the greater rewards; and if you've established that the rewards will be worth the effort up front… again, go for it! If you answer “no” to any of the questions, quitting is not just OK but smart. Quitting when you cannot win frees up your energy to go after something that you can win. Often there is a person inside of us waiting to be freed. Sometimes this inner person is held captive by events in our childhood, tragedies in our teens or setbacks in our adult years... but either way you are trapped. So how do you release this inner being? There is no formula. However there are some tried and tested suggestions: - Acknowledge that there is more to you than what you allow to show. - Determine what's holding you back and address it if possible. - If addressing it isn't possible, choose to release it by realizing that in order to be who or to have what you desire, you must set your inner being free. -Confide in someone who can hold you accountable to live wholly and true to self. -Confess daily that the world needs what's inside of you and only you can fulfill that purpose.

Be bold to share who you are with the world and to make personal renovations when needed.

Making Connections through Clothing By Christina Grimes

Women’s Elevation Magazine | May 2013

Spring is not only a coming out party for flowers, blooms, and plants, but also your wardrobe of bright colors, lighter clothes, and the retirement of your favorite petticoat. Incidentally, invitations to fabulous soirees, gallery openings, and networking events will start to fill up your inbox. It’s the perfect time to show off your new attire. But before you hit the ground running, have you ever thought to use your apparel as a means to network? There was an instance where I found myself quite lost while entering a new environment filled with people I didn’t know. We have all been there where you start to run through questions in your mind to ask the other person. What do you do? Where are you from? The conversation dies when one of you is hit with a close-ended question.

Sometimes the process becomes even more difficult when a crowd of confidantes surrounds the person you want to meet with no entrance for you. Unfortunately, you are going about it all wrong because you are missing your secret weapon, a “Whatzit.” A “Whatzit,” a term coined by Leil Lowndes in “How to Talk to Anyone,” is an object you have added to your outfit to attract attention. Whether it’s a bright purse, funky shoes, or an intriguing nail art design, it gives people an excuse to approach you and ask, “What is that?” My “Whatzit” is usually something odd or quirky like an owl necklace, vintage brooches, or a flexible finger ring. Your options are endless as long as the item makes someone curious about it. A “Whatzit” can also work in the reverse. Search your person of interest from head to toe to find something interesting to ask them about. This is a great opening because it gives the other person a chance to chat about a familiar subject while giving you the opportunity to delve into their lives.

The key to having a successful “Whatzit” is to make sure it’s something that matches your personality. The more detail you give, the more the conversation lead to other topics of interest. And who knows; by the end of the night, you could have a new contact, client, or friend just based of a statement piece.

Excitement, possibilities and pure vulnerability can really get the best of us in life. Without thinking twice, at the sound of great news, we dive head first into an “opportunity.” The annoying part about it is, often times, once you accept the offer, you have to go through hell and high water just to get out of it once you come to your senses. The good news is that as we grow older we become more wiser. Not only should we be able to make more sound decisions, we should be able to say no. No to yourself and no to others. It actually gets easier with time and after a few bad experiences. If you understand the value of who you are, what your time is worth and your own boundaries, you should have no problems with this. Think wisely before you act.

East and West

might seem like insignificant positions on a compass, but when it comes

to U.S. fashion, they mean so much more. There is an ongoing dispute between these two coasts for quite some time regarding which is the epicenter of fashion. Each coast has such a distinctive style and, with a couple of tips and an understanding of each style, you’ll find that they’re incredibly easy to attain. If you’ve already picked a side then congrats to you but if you’re among the many that have still yet to discover which coast their style most represents; then you wouldn’t be alone. As odd as it may sound, there are many “undecided coasters” out there. Nevertheless, with a couple of tips and an understanding of the styles themselves, it should be incredibly easy to attain. But first and foremost, you’re probably wondering how this universal debate originated in the first place. Like all rivalries, it began with competition. Much like a high school student dreams of becoming prom king or queen, the same theory applies here. So until one or the other relinquishes power or steps down; it would seem that the feud remains to continue.

Women’s Elevation Magazine | May 2013

21

Each coast has its own distinctive style. In order to decide which side you represent, you first have to understand the differences between each coast’s sense of fashion. Whereas the West coast is usually more laid back and casual with a touch of sophistication and style, the East coast is all sophistication with hints of polish and urbanity. D.C., for example, is a powerhouse city that requires both professionalism and style. L.A, on the other hand, is more relaxed which can sometimes come across as bohemian inspired. It’s incredibly easy to notice the diversity between the two; a lot of diversity that revolves around the weather. As much as we all like to dress the way we want, sometimes the weather gets in the way of that; making it a little impossible to carry out that goal. Once you have the weather down to a science, dressing for it should be no problem at all.

Identifying which coast best suits you should be pretty easy to shop for it. If you’re more of an East coast girl, remember to choose pieces that are refined and classy. Pencil skirts, blouses, trousers, pumps and structured bags are all among the category. Look for colors that are not too bright such as black, grey, white, and beige. You can add in a little color now and then but make sure you keep them at a minimum. For a West coast look, be a little more playful. Look for billowy tops, maxi dresses, fedoras, soft scarves, and knits to accomplish a West coast inspired look. Floral patterns and Aztec prints are perfect to incorporate into the look as well. For jewelry, look for gold pendants and bangles. These can normally be found for a great bargain at flea markets and vintage stores around the area.

Remember to always add your own personality to the outfits as well. It’s pointless if you cannot identify yourself in either looks so always remember to incorporate some form of yourself in whichever look you choose.

in your mind, body and spirit. It’s the best medicine when clarity is an issue.

By Tosh Patterson

Spring has sprung and I know you are ready to be cute and show a little leg.

As you search high and low in the closet for something to wear, you have to remember, what you wear tells a story about you. If another person just looked at you and never had a conversation with you, would your visual appearance truly represent you? Research shows that we are judged within the first 30 seconds of meeting someone. In those few seconds your visual appearance can make or break getting the job, the contract, the meeting, the speaking engagement, the new relationship, or the exposure you want. Women’s Elevation Magazine | May 2013

24

Of course it’s not only how others judge you; it’s all about how you feel about yourself. As you work towards being a healthy person, think beyond the number on the scale. When you look in the mirror, regardless of your physical size, do your clothes represent the true you to the world? If you’ve gained weight, you might be resisting buying any new clothes. If you’ve lost weight, you may need to let go of the old frumpy clothes and purchase a few new wardrobe pieces. You have to accept exactly where you are right now, physically, and dress yourself well. Take the time to look good so you can feel good. It’s true that when you love your clothes, you love your body.

Here are a few budget friendly ideas to help you create a flattering wardrobe: 1. You might be surprised at the number of name brand, high quality items you can find at the thrift store. It’s not the place it used to be and you can find an endless amount of clothing and many of the items have been gently or never worn. This option is a huge money saver; especially if you’re in-between sizes or if you’ve don’t want to make a significant investment in a completely new wardrobe. 2. Once you have those thrift store finds, have items dry-cleaned AND tailored. If you have clothes that are too big, but you still love them, go to a local dry-cleaner and ask the seamstress to tailor those pieces to fit your new body! Having items tailored saves money and will be much cheaper than trying to buy the same item, or something similar, again. 3. Buy wrap skirts/dresses. A wrap dress is very versatile. You can make wrap clothing tighter or looser to flatter the body you have at any moment in time. This is a great way to extend the life of your clothes and decrease the need to always buy new items. Do not underestimate how your wardrobe can have you feel more confident, more polished, and more comfortable in your skin. Everyone should want to look like the best version of themselves simply because they can do it.

OWNER & CEO OF HUSH BOUTIQUE www.lovehushboutique.com

There aren’t many words needed to describe Ms. Tamara “Hush” Lee. Her view on fashion is a mix of high fashion and chic! If you haven’t heard of her boutique then you haven’t been “hushed.” Her company Hush Boutique was first launched in 2007 and it is one of the best-kept secrets in the DMV Area. Her portfolio ranges from styling music videos, fashion editorials, album covers, fashion photo shoots, and runway shows. Her unique sense of style is as beautiful as is versatile, combining classic sophistication with sassy chic and always a modern twist to create her unique brand of elegance. The one thing that Tamara loves the most about her job is to see the transformation of her client’s confidence. Whether it’s a push to try a pair of skinny jeans, a pop of the collar, or an added layer or accessory, she can change a person from a wallflower into a style icon in minutes. Tamara owes all her success to doing things in correct order: Faith, Family and Business. We got a chance to ask Lee about the trends coming for 2013 and the difficulties of the fashion industry.

“Fall and Winter 2012 we saw lots of studs, over the top embellishments, and spikes. Wine & Grey was the color of choice, while Beyonce birthed the wedge sneaker. 2012 was fun for fashion but Spring 2013 will be even more bright and exciting. Surprisingly, we are getting back to the basics; and the black and white duo will make a big noise this spring. It’s all about classic and chic. Oversized ruffles, stripes, Bermuda shorts, sheer tops & suits will be big this spring. The colors that will bombard your closet will be the yellows. Think lemon drops and sunshine but don’t be deterred from this bold color. Also blues are making a comeback. Continued on page 28

Palettes of sea blues and greens and sandy beach nudes will be seen in all the stores.”

“Part provocative and part princess, the hi-lo hemline is the perfect choice for the daring diva who’s having a difficult time deciding between a full length dress and a head-turning short dress. As for tops, they are perfect because they cover the behind and allow you to wear leggings guilt free.” “The other trend that is here to stay will be color blocking--simply pairing more than one solid hue together in an ensemble--is still going strong for spring/summer 2013. “This season have fun with your wardrobe; be daring! Try different things and think out the box. Pick up your favorite fashion magazine and draw inspiration. It’s a fact that it will brighten up your confidence and smile.”

“Surround yourself in the fashion world. Create a style of your own regardless of whether you want to be a buyer, model, fashion photographer, stylist, etc. Always be willing to sign up for internships and be willing to work hard. Experience, personal style & relationships are key in this industry.”

“Great question!!!! People generally only see the finished products. They only see the racks of clothes for sale or the models walking the runway or the fashion shoots and yes it looks glamorous. What they don't realize is that work that goes into the finished product. The hours reviewing line sheets, building relationships with designers, traveling, ordering, tagging, marketing, model fittings, and the biggest of them all the business/accounting portion. It’s a lot of hard work and you must have 100% of your time to build your brand, no exceptions, no excuses and no side jobs. Staying focused, consistent, fashion savvy and determined helped my career tremendously.” Tamara Lee lives by the saying, “Love, Laugh and Be Fashionable“, the words of a true fashionista. OWNER & CEO OF DEVAWN ACCESSORIES www.shopdevawn.com

Prior to launching her own business, Ashley Bonds, founder and owner of DeVawn Accessories, was feeling like a robot. Every day while at work, she sat at her desk knowing there was more to life than a typical 9 - 5, with a typical nagging boss. Frustrated and bored, Ashley decided to look into starting her own business. She pondered for months, and finally one night she had a vision: a dream that one day she would run her own virtual fashion accessories boutique and showroom. From that dream Ashley birthed DeVawn Accessories, a New York City based company that is the destination for urban chic fashion accessories and jewelry curated by emerging designers. Her company specializes in increasing product & designer exposure. WE Magazine spoke with Bonds regarding her company and advice that she has for those trying to break into the industry.

“To me, a fashionista is an individual who has a strong sense of self and personal style. I am a person who is not easily swayed by fads and trends but I am someone who wants to impart a lasting impression. Embracing one’s unique sense of fashion exudes a distinct character and an air of confidence which eventually transcends into beauty that is tangible, accessible, and readily appreciated by both fashion connoisseurs and average people.” “I am a fashionista because I’m not a follower of the cookie cutter fashion standards. I aim to create, not imitate. I wear things that capture my persona. I wear whatever makes me happy.” Women’s Elevation Magazine | May 2013

28

“Trends that need to stay in 2012 are the sheer dresses over body suits, pajama inspired outfits and My Little Pony dyed tipped hair. The new trends for 2013 that I’m looking forward to are perforated booties, long fringe purses & handbags and striped everything!”

“My fashion sense is determined by my attitude and confidence; it’s whatever I feel comfortable in, clothing or accessories, when I get dressed every morning. In my closet you will find a mix of everything, but you'll mostly find quirky, eclectic and fun statement accessories like colored sunglasses, cool hats, print scarves and bags - as well as layered necklaces and stacked bracelets & rings. I would say my fashion style most appeals to famous fashionistas like Beyoncé and Jessica Alba.”

“A piece of advice that I would give to someone wanting to start a career in fashion would be to constantly create and improvise, there is no such thing as overnight success. If you’re thinking longevity, you must have a strong passion. “Also, pay attention to your intuition; make sure you aren’t only verging into it because of monetary benefits. To carve a niche for yourself in fashion, be innovative, do not imitate. And lastly, avoid mental laziness!!”

“Everyone says it, but it’s true, the fashion industry is a difficult industry to breakthrough. You must stay current with your designs and business ideas. Everything should be done with innovation and forward thinking as your main motivation. Creating your own lane is key.” Follow DeVawn Accessories! www.shopdevawn.com Twitter: https://twitter.com/shopDeVawn

We got a chance to talk with Conyers regarding her thoughts on the world of fashion.

“I LOVE accessories! I’m not a big fan of clothes; it’s all about the bags, shoes, scarf or necklace! Being a fashionista is about knowing how to coordinate pieces that display your own sense of style! Your clothes show the world what type of mood you’re in. Being able to accessorize especially dresses coordinated with fishnets truly display the time of fashionista I am!”

Lerkia has been featured and quoted in reputable media outlets such as CNN, The Washington Post, Weddzilla, The Baltimore Sun, Get Married Magazine, O Magazine, The Gazette-Star, Style Me Pretty, and Munaluchi Bridal Magazine.

“My extreme passion for fashion. Nothing is off-limit with respect to fashion, despite what some may think. Fashion is what you make it (the more extreme, the better).”

“I’m a vintage girl at heart; it speaks to me. My clothes tell a story, they are like family. I love pairing vintage pieces with modern pieces to achieve an individual style that compliments my lifestyle, wallet and mood. It took years to define my signature style, and I feel it would appeal to an individual who admires a timeless wardrobe, with tons of flirty and polished pieces.” Women’s Elevation Magazine | May 2013

35

“From vintage DVF blazers to gently worn Carmen Marc Valvo palazzo pants, they are relevant, simply chic and on trend. My style icon is the style mavens I spot on the streets. I find pure enjoyment in style watching. It’s all about walking confidently and rocking it out effortlessly. Also, classic films are really inspiring, they wore the best clothes.”

“I am not a very trendy person, but I do appreciate the trend forecasts that are provided each season. For example, when styling clients I do take into consideration what I see on the runways, but at the end of the day, my client’s style and preference are my main concern. Trends should lend inspiration, and my motto is, “set trends, don’t follow them.” My fashion trends suggestions for 2013 would be make a statement, play with color, mix it up, shop your pre-existing wardrobe, know your body type, shop for your figure, stay true to your personal style and allow your accessories to speak for you.”

“Do your research, stay informed, find a great mentor and eat, breathe and sleep fashion.”

“Behind all the glitz, glamour, and flawless photo-shoots, there are thousands of people working hard to make this possible. Breaking into the industry can sometimes be difficult, extremely competitive, and you will work grueling hours (for free at times). Everyone wants a piece of the fashion pie but must be prepared to climb the bedazzled industry ladder with stilettos. Stressful, but very rewarding if you want it, you’ll work hard to make it happen.” CURRENT PROJECTS: While in Paris last week, we created two signature bridal scents for our brides coined “Fallen and Summer.” We can’t wait to share with you and your followers how these two fragrances will be incorporated into our brand in the coming months! “It’s all about doing what’s comfortable to you. Don’t always go with the trend; think about how you can ‘build on’ the fashionista in you! For me growing up – fashion came first. I remember vividly my Aunt ‘C’ – Ceola handing me Essence, Vogue, and Ebony and fashion-related catalogues such as Neiman Marcus, when I was very young.” She would save the magazines and catalogues for me until my next visit in this lovely wired magazine rack in her Gothic–Victorian styled home in the heart of Uptown New Orleans! And from there my eyes open to the world of fashion. I would save magazine clippings, pull out pics and dog-ear pages to create my first of many inspiration boards.”

“Some would say I appeal to current fashionistas – others might say I appeal to women who want to be fashionistas but I would say I appeal to everyone – I’m a charmer by nature!”

“With the 2012 fashion season – brought the idea of mixing patterns and solids and patterns over other patterns – our first lady, Michelle Obama, cornered this fashion trend. We were able to see fellow fashion enthusiasts mimic this look in their daily wardrobe. She’s been a style inspiration this past year and beyond.” Currently new trends for this Spring/Summer are bold stripes in all types – from wide strips to skinny stripes. For example, pairing fuchsia with black and white bold stripes will be ‘in’ this spring. Everything from leather harness to nude hues and high contrast looks – it’s all spring!”

“The one thing I stand by is “think outside the box” – I created events and projects that have never been done before! “My blog Charm Chat is a charming blog full of fashion and style tips, posh event[s] and more! From there Fashionista Flea Market was created, an "outdoor" open-air flea market bringing together girlfriends, bargain shoppers and fashionistas. Providing the ultimate shopping experience, to come out to see and buy amazing pieces from the closets of fabulous fashionistas.” “Fashionista Flea Market (FFM) has been a destination for customers seeking one-of-a-kind re-cycled and gently used items, accessories, shoes, contemporary new clothing, fab jewelry, amazing apparel, affordable name brands and modern labels for shoppers seeking an alternative shopping experience. Then when I became a mom for the first time, we created The Pregginista – a sophisticated and stylish blog for pregnant women which brought Baby Bash and Bling Expo & Show (BBB) to life – an interactive lifestyle expo celebrating expecting moms – a fabulous concept that embraces glam and mommy hood under one umbrella!”

“It’s not always easy getting into fashion – as a blogger I started writing about it, attending fashion events and just started creating events related to my love of fashion, women and moms! You have to be willing to take risks – don’t allow fear into your space.”

“Currently I’m focused on the Spring/Summer events for Fashionista Flea Market – dates and location will be announced soon. Then preparing for Baby Bash and Bling Expo & Show making a stop in the Big Apple – New York City this September 2013 – and the expo features “Bump the Runway” the first ever maternity fashion show featuring stylish and sophisticated pregnant women! We have a lot more we’re working on – stay connected with us to stay on top!” Follow Monica Byrd and the Baby Bash & Bling Expo! Originally from Baltimore, Maryland, Erin Robinson studied at the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York, where she majored in Fashion Design. She’s worked as a teaching artist in India and Nicaragua. She’s also lived and worked in multiple cities, including New York, San Francisco and Los Angeles, developing her design techniques and aesthetic. She is currently living in New York City working as a freelance designer, as well as building a team for her 3rd Cult label. Inspired by ancient images and contemporary style, 3rd Cult is the lovely by-product of centuries of cultural dispersions. This brand is about celebration, unification, love, and pride. Their motto? “We are the past, and we are the future.”

“I love mixing looks together. I love heavy, beaded, ornate jewelry, and big chunky tweeds, and I love embroidered tunics, and layers and scarves. I like to harmonize contrasting items of clothing, like an embroidered silk skirt with a big chunky sweatshirt. I don’t think there’s an article of clothing that I’ve ever seen that I couldn’t figure out a way to rock, no matter how loud and tacky. I love experimenting with new looks. But, above all, I appreciate clothing/accessories that aren’t just unique, but are well-made, and have a story to them.”

“I hope the whole Barbie look stays in 2012. I think women should embrace their natural selves and enhance their own attributes, instead of trying to look like mini-celebrities. There are many ways to look beautiful, not just what’s seen on TV or in magazines. I’m excited that the ‘ethnic’ (for lack of a better word) look is becoming incredibly popular, but I hope those looks become staples in wardrobes, not just fads. I’m very big on embracing your own identity, and being your true self.”

“Research! I think people think it’s a field you can just jump into with no experience or respect for the craft, and that it’s a quick buck. Like any other respectable trade, it takes time, patience, skill, and practice to be a true master of the field. It’s not something you garner overnight success in; it takes years of paying dues to really be a success. Again, I think researching and defining what path you want to take is important. There are so many routes: designing, merchandising, visual display, production management, textile design, etc. I think that by researching, taking classes, and working as an apprentice, etc., you will find your calling and figure out where you’ll be successful. Again, it all requires patience.” Follow 3rd Cult Website: http://3rdculture.storenvy.com/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/3rdCult Instagram: instagram.com/thirdcult Twitter: @ThirdCult

Taken From: Babble.com

Ingredients 1 cup sugar 1 cup water, plus 3 or 4 cups more 5 sprigs of fresh mint, plus more for garnish 1 1/2 cups fresh squeezed lemon juice (roughly 10 small lemons) several lemon slices for garnish

Directions The best way to sweeten lemonade is by making a simple syrup. Bring 1 cup of water to a boil and stir in one cup of sugar until dissolved. Add the mint sprigs* and allow them to steep for 10 – 15 minutes, while the mixture cools. In a large pitcher, combine the lemon juice and simple syrup. Add two cups of water, stir, and taste. Add up to 2 more cups of water, depending on how sweet or strong you like your lemonade. If you will be serving over lots of ice, you may want to keep it on the strong side since the ice will dilute it. Serve over ice with a slice of lemon and a sprig of mint. Ingredients: 1 and 1/2 cups Ritz crackers, crushed**I used one whole sleeve and used my food processor to crush the crackers 2 cups white cheddar cheese, grated and divided 4 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted 4 and 1/2 cups cooked elbow macaroni (about 8 ounces uncooked) One 5.2-ounce container of Boursin Garlic and Herb cheese 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, cold 2 large eggs 1/2 cup milk 1/4 cup sour cream 1/4 teaspoon salt Pinch red pepper flakes Parsley, for garnish, optional Directions 1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. 2. Generously spray 8 cups of your muffin pan with cooking spray. 3. In a large bowl, combine the crushed Ritz crackers, 1 cup of the shredded white cheddar cheese, and the melted butter, mixing well until the mixture holds together and resembles coarse sand. 4. Divide the mixture among the 8 muffin cups and, using your fingers or the back of a spoon, firmly press the crust into the bottoms and up the sides of each muffin cup. 5. In another large bowl, combine the cooked (and still hot!) macaroni with 1/2 cup of the shredded white cheddar, the Boursin cheese, and the butter, mixing well. 6. In a small bowl, combine the eggs, milk, sour cream, salt, and red pepper flakes, mixing well. 7. Add the egg/milk mixture to the cooked macaroni, mixing until all the ingredients are melted and smooth.

8. Place about 2-3 tablespoons of the macaroni mixture into each muffin cup (you will probably have a little leftover macaroni-I did. Save this and bake it separately, if desired.) 9. Top each muffin cup with the remaining white cheddar. 10. Bake the mac and cheese pies until lightly golden on top, about 20-25 minutes. 11. Let cool slightly before removing from the muffin pan, garnish with parsley, and serve immediately. Women’s Elevation Magazine | May 2013

There's a storm brewing, and you may be asking yourself whether or not you can survive without getting wet. If you're feeling like you've been locked out and are forced to endure the storm without safe covering, know that it is not the case. There is a quote to keep in mind as you endure the storm you are currently facing: "And once the storm is over you won't remember how you made it through, how you managed to survive. You won't even be sure, in fact, that the storm is over. But one thing is certain. When you come out of the storm you won't be the same person who walked in." – Anonymous Remember this is your storm. This storm was meant to mold you, to change you into the person that God is designing you to be. And there will be many storms, but that is because He is truly investing time and energy into making you the person you were truly meant to be!
