I am a second year student in the Interior Design program, and I have a completely different perspective of the major than I did coming into it. Coming into the program, the only advantage that I possessed was that I was heavily focused on art in high school. This helped me to think in a creative manner. I am proud of my progression within the program. I am the kind of person who will never turn in anything that I am not personally proud of. With this mindset, it has pushed me into think in ways that sometimes even surprises me. It is humbling to see that others enjoy work, and that several works of mine will be reviewed for accreditation of the program. I hope to continue in the program to witness my progression. There are two areas in which I want to improve. One area that can be improved is my understanding of Revit. I know that we are still in the process of learning the many parts of the program, but I also understand how useful and
convenient the program can be once it’s mastered. The other area is impromptu presentations. I do well at presenting when I review the content and create a general map of key points I want to get across. However, in our classes we have made several quick PowerPoint presentations and presented the content in the same day. I need to improve on organizing my thoughts on the spot. My plan to succeed in the interior design program is more of a psychological approach, but easily transitions into physical actions. Instead of doing projects to satisfy the criteria just to get a good grade, I think “what type of quality work would my future employer want to see? This keeps me from doing mediocre or unoriginal work. The area in this industry that I see myself working would be in hospitality. To be more specific, I would prefer to do hotels and restaurants. When I look at these two types of facilities, I am immediately inspired. I want to inspire others in the way that I have been.

the inspiration for the design came from the simplicity of modern style. the shelving units consists of the balancing of the contrasting curved and straight letters x, o, and g. combining the complementing letter forms creates a composition that is not only functional, but also aesthetically pleasing.

design concept cnn has updated their atlanta news set to appear contemporary. the interpretation of the anchor desk is designed to represent the forward thinking that cnn works toward. there is no wood incorporated into the design to avoid any aspects of traditional design. the light-box on the left is lit up by led lighting, and the panes of glazing on the right have under-lighting. cnn strives for an action filled experience in which is given through the anchor desk design.

the model showcases the kitchen and dining section of a new york city loft design. the area is limited, thus the materials are light to visually expand the area. to lower the spacial volume, horizontal components have been applied to the walls, and the flooring has been raised. counters in front of windows have shelving that allows more natural light.

design concept when eve ate from the forbidden tree, and her husband followed suit, it changed the course of history. man was forever under the influence of sin with no sight of hope. darkness consumed the world. this was until a hope came. “for if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of his son, much more, being reconciled, we shall be saved by his life. (romans 5:10) now that there is the Light, the sin that was pouring on man can be taken away. the sacrifice was the resolution to an unsolved problem.

the design of the structure is based on the experience from the storyline below. once there was a man who lived in a city of concrete and steel. everything in it was overwhelmingly tall and gray, and you could only travel to other concrete cities by plane. the man wanted to travel to another city, but accidentally boarded a plane that goes to the forbidden area. once he had arrived to the area, he saw something that he had never seen before; vegetation. he enjoy his experience so much that he decided to create a city where his world and the new world he discovered lived harmoniously.

design concept the building’s intention is to follow the storyline completely. it starts in a vertical area that is rectilinear, then lifts to the second level which represents the flight to the other land. now the landscape of the area is organic, and there is exposure to the outdoors. the end point combines both qualities of each area, and creates a complementary collaboration.

design concept the collaboration of historical architecture from the georgian period and the clean lines of modern architecture capture the essence of the neighborhood and design of the space. the structure is to resemble a repurposed historical building that celebrates the architecture by having exposed structure such as that found in brutalism. the dining space incorporates outdoor architectural qualities that are found in porches and plazas to allow openness to the environment. the balance of clean vibrant finishes and classic structure within the space creates a cohesive design that appeals to a larger spectrum of individuals.
