Frequently Asked Questions
Important Dates
JANUARY
WHAT TYPES OF ASSISTANCE ARE AVAILABLE? The vast majority of Woodberry’s tuition assistance is in the form of grants. The school also offers a small number of low-interest loans. Loans must be repaid, while grants do not need to be repaid. Woodberry’s tuition assistance program is need-based. We do not offer merit-based scholarships. HOW DOES WOODBERRY DETERMINE A FAMILY’S DEMONSTRATED NEED? Woodberry’s tuition assistance committee follows guidelines set by the School and Student Services for Financial Aid (SSS), in conjunction with the National Association of Independent Schools. SSS uses a formula that takes into account the costs of housing, food, clothing, transportation, insurance, and other nondiscretionary expenses. This allows SSS to calculate how much a family can afford to spend on a child’s education. DO I NEED TO APPLY FOR TUITION ASSISTANCE EACH YEAR? Tuition assistance is awarded on an annual basis; families must submit an application each year so awards may be calculated.

WILL MY FAMILY QUALIFY FOR ASSISTANCE? Every family is encouraged to apply for tuition assistance. Eligibility depends on several factors: parents’ age, income, assets, other financial obligations, and number of dependents. Financial reasons should never deter a family from applying to Woodberry.

Woodberry does not charge fees for playing sports or other activities. Travel and book expenses are the only additional cost beyond tuition and vary based on the classes a young man takes and where he is from.
