November It's Thanksgivukkah By Deb Ristau

Once in a lifetime
ou've never seen this before and you won't see it again. Not unless you can figure out how to live until the year 76,695. It's Thanksgivukkah and it happens for the first time on November 28, 2013. That is the date when the Jewish and Gregorian calendars converge with each other and Hanukkah and Thanksgiving fall on the same day. As we Americans give thanks for all that is good about America and all that is good in our lives, this would be a good day to learn more about our Jewish neighbors and friends. Without going into a lot of detail, Hanukkah means 'dedication' in Hebrew and refers to an eight-day celebration commemorating a Jewish victory over Syria sometime around 165 B.C. Modern day Hanukkah celebrations include the lighting of the Menorah, reading of the Torah, singing, eating and sharing traditional foods such as latkes and sufganiyot. I'll bet turkey and latkes are great together!
Mazel Tov! Happy Thanksgiving!

Name the location
hile the majority of our tree lined streets at Woodbridge are only showing the first trace of fall color, we look forward to the bright red that often appears later in November. The photograph at right was taken just before Thanksgiving in 2011. Can you guess the location? The first person to accurately name the location AND submit a photo taken at the same spot when the leaves turn THIS year, will receive a prize. We don't yet know what the prize will be, but it will be very nice and worth the effort. Winner will be announced in the next edition of Woodbridge LIFE. Entry deadline is November 20.
