Honoring Philanthropy

Thank You for Improving the Birth Experience for Growing Families in Our Community Thank you to all of the generous donors who helped provide new fetal monitors for the Woodland Memorial Hospital Family Birth Center! Together, you gifted over $230,000, which will purchase eight new monitors, carts to hold them, staff training, and two base stations, which will allow laboring mothers to be accurately monitored during labor, even when they choose to walk around the room. In addition, a portable fetal monitor was purchased to monitor mothers and their babies when ambulance transport is necessary. “Fetal monitors are important because they provide the data that empower us to give minute by minute care to all moms and babies,” explained Lindsey Lyon, a Family Birth Center nurse. “These monitors are our eyes and ears, helping us ensure our babies are safe,” adds Nurse Lucy Thietz. A healthy delivery starts with a healthy heartbeat. This advanced monitoring technology will provide more information for caregivers, including maternal pulse and blood pressure measurement, uterine activity, and fetal movement, with the capability to monitor twins or triplets. They are also used for internal fetal monitoring, an essential practice that has become standard during difficult labors to ensure that a baby remains stable. The touch display is larger, with intuitive color coding that offers caregivers the numbers and graphics needed to quickly assess the situation and make more informed decisions regarding care. Message from our VP of Philanthropy At Woodland Healthcare Foundation, we believe it’s always a good time to say thank you! We recently had the opportunity to express our gratitude and celebrate some of the most generous and amazing members of our community at our inaugural Fairchild & Legacy Societies Celebration. These newly formed recognition societies honor the lifetime contributions of our current and past donors who have cumulative giving of over $25,000 and those who have remembered Woodland Healthcare Foundation in their estate plan. Collectively, these donors, many of whom have been making gifts to Woodland Healthcare Foundation for decades, have led the effort to raise over $27 million since Woodland Healthcare Foundation’s founding in 1967. The combined impact of all of our donors has been inspirational. With a community that truly supports it at multiple levels, Woodland Healthcare has been able to deliver world-class care, close to home, for over a century. Most recently, your generosity has enhanced the Surgical Services and Advanced Imaging departments, provided for important equipment needs at the Family Birth Center, and enabled the purchase of many new and technologically advanced pieces Continued on page 3

Woodland Healthcare Foundation is deeply grateful to everyone who supported this initiative to improve the birthing experience for our deserving families at Woodland Memorial Hospital. In addition to the caring individuals from our community and employees who contributed, Yocha Dehe Wintun Nation and IC & SW Foundation both awarded generous grants to help us acquire this important equipment. “We at Woodland Memorial Hospital feel incredibly blessed and fortunate to have the support of our wonderful community,” added Nova Fox, manager of the Family Birth Center. “Thank you for meeting the needs of our unit as we strive to provide the safest, most positive birth experience for every family.”

beyond the walls of the hospital. “Many of us volunteer with the Kind Crew, helping organizations such as the Yolo Food Bank, Meals on Wheels, and others,” Gena said, “our mission of caring is everywhere.” In addition to volunteering, Gena is also a generous employee donor to Woodland Healthcare Foundation. “To see patients get extra special care—the care that they deserve—because of our gifts,

Gifts from donors improve patient care, however, Gena points out that it is important for the hospital team members as well. “When they see that Woodland Healthcare Foundation donors have provided something their department needs, it really makes our nurses and other caregivers feel supported and valued.” Every day, gifts made through Woodland Healthcare Foundation touch the lives of Continued on next page
patients and inspire pride in our caregivers. Most recently, equipment acquired through the Advanced Imaging and Surgical Services Campaign is making it possible for local residents to receive certain treatments and tests in Woodland for the first time. “Our physicians and staff are so grateful for all that the Campaign provided,” says Gena, “this equipment means that our patients don’t have to travel when they are sick, they can have their own community care for them.” Woodland Healthcare Foundation is deeply grateful to all its donors for making a difference. We also celebrate the generosity of employee donors, like Gena Bravo, who go above and beyond when caring for our community. Their professional and personal commitment to our wellbeing is the definition of humankindness.

A Night to Remember! Fairchild & Legacy Societies Celebration
On Friday, March 1, Woodland Healthcare Foundation hosted our inaugural Fairchild & Legacy Societies Celebration. Held at the Woodland Community & Senior Center, this festive occasion offered us the opportunity to celebrate and sincerely thank the most generous members of our family of donors. One hundred six members of our community were inducted into the Fairchild Society, which honors donors who have given $25,000 or more to the Foundation during their lifetime. The society is named after iconic physician Fred R. Fairchild. Like Dr. Fairchild, members of this society have made significant contributions to ensure our community benefits from access to world-class care. Inaugural members of the Fairchild Society were inducted at the $25,000, $50,000, $100,000, $250,000 and $500,000 giving levels. Also honored were outstanding individuals who have included the Foundation in their estate plans. Forty-four generous donors were inducted into the Legacy Society for their 4
dedication to serving our community for generations to come. Our guests arrived dressed in their best to mingle at a reception before being seated for a program. Attendees heard about the impact
