Subject Choices: The school welcomes applications from students who will achieve English Language and Maths at Grade 5 and 3 other GCSEs at similar grades in discrete subjects (for example, qualifications in related subjects such as English Literature and English Language will count as one grade only towards the achievement level). However, students are expected to achieve subject specific requirements at GCSE in accordance with the subject curriculum guidelines issued. In exceptional circumstances, the application of the above criteria is at the Head of Sixth Form’s discretion. The following factors are used when assessing whether criteria for entry into the Sixth Form have been met: 1 Evidence of sustained and committed approach to study throughout Key Stage 4. 1 Academic Profile to date in relation to the cohort of applications received. 1 Predicted GCSE results. 1 Quality of the student’s Progess File/Record of Achievement. 1 Pastoral and academic staff recommendations. 1 Attendance/Punctuality record. 1 Performance at interview. At Allestree Woodlands School students will be expected to take a minimum of 3 A Levels which are examined at the end of year 13. For exceptional students, we offer the Extended Project Qualification and, in some cases, the opportunity to study 4 A Levels. Year 12
