At Woodlands we strive to reward students for being the best that they can be in all aspects of their life – both within school and in the wider community. The Woodlands Way award system is designed to encourage everyone to ‘Aspire and Achieve’.

This booklet will support you in striving to achieve the award; as you read through it you will hopefully be inspired to have a go at some of the activities that we have listed. There are many more activities that you can do to achieve your points: if you have any great ideas, speak to your form tutor who will help decide which section, and the number of points the activity deserves.


Community Involvement

What can you do to show your awareness and involvement in the community around you? These activities are designed to help you celebrate and participate in our school community and the community outside our gates. Below are some activities you can do to earn points – speak to your teachers to find new ways of achieving even more!

Leadership

We are all leaders of our school and we want to reward the many opportunities you all take to show your qualities as individuals. Here are some ways that you can achieve leadership points within our school.

Activities 1 book monitor in lessons 1 leadership roles within lessons 1 taking on the role of project manager 1 volunteering to lead activities 1 expert group presentations in lessons 1 challenging the disruptive behaviour of others 1 helping at open evenings 1 team captain 1 taking part in an assembly 1 organising extra-curricular events

If you are involved in the Junior Sports Leaders Award over the school year, you will have the opportunity to achieve up to 30 points at Level 1 and 40 points at Level 2!


Attitude to Learning

Learning is the number one reason for being part of the Woodlands community and we would like to reward those that do all they can to demonstrate a positive attitude towards their own learning, and the learning of others.

Activities 1 excellent effort in your book work 1 carefully planning your responses before writing them in assessments 1 covering your books in MFL 1 moving out of your comfort zone to give something a go 1 significant contributions to classroom discussions 1 demonstrating a positive attitude to learning 1 excellent management of folders at KS5 1 contributions in target language in MFL lessons 1 expert group presentations 1 Impressive effort in homework 1 Independent wider reading 1 consistently good effort 1 showing a sustained improvement in your effort 1 attending CafĂŠ Mathematics 1 consistently going beyond the expected standard of effort in both classwork and homework

School Ethos

We are one community and we need to work together to achieve our shared values. Supporting one another, respecting our surroundings and demonstrating strong moral values is how we aspire and achieve.

Personal Development

At Woodlands we want to help you to become the best that you can be. We appreciate that everyone is different and we all have our different strengths and qualities. If you are actively involved in activities outside of school then we want to reward it! Here are some examples of ways in which you can achieve Personal Development points:

You can collect points in each of the five sections shown here. Awards are available when you have collected the following points;

When one section is achieved the rewards are;

When all five sections are achieved the rewards will include;

Bronze Award: A5 Certificate

Bronze Award: A4 certificate and bronze badge Treats from the refectory or atrium cafe

Silver Award: A5 Certificate

Silver Award: Home study period (KS5) 1 day lunch pass A4 certificate and silver badge

Gold Award: A5 Certificate

Gold Award: Entered in to Headteacher’s prize draw Home study periods (KS5) Week lunch pass A4 certificate and gold badge Achievement ceremony
