Fall
Construction of a 7,500 square-foot multi-activity court (MAC) gym at the ARC, Woodridge Park District’s athletic recreation center, began on June 14, with completion of the MAC gym expected in spring 2018. The gym was originally planned as part of the Phase 1 development of the ARC construction project but was removed due to the previous suspension of the Park and Recreational Facility Construction (PARC) grant authorized in October 2014. After a 22-month suspension of the originally approved grant, the Woodridge Park District was notified on August 10, 2016 by the Illinois Department of Natural Resources that the District’s $2.5MM grant was reinstated for full funding. The grant funds have been deposited and are earmarked to complete the original facility design which encompassed the MAC gym.

Meetings Regular meetings of the Woodridge Park District Board of Commissioners are held on the second Tuesday of each month. These meetings begin at 7:00 p.m. at the Community Center, 2600 Center Drive. The public is always welcome to express their ideas or opinions on any pertinent matter. SPECIAL EVENTS
Family Campout What better way to spend an evening with your family than camping out at the park district’s Community Center? Staff will provide hot dogs, chips, and beverages for an early evening cookout. After the sun sets, roasting marshmallows over a camp fire will be enjoyed by all. Juice, coffee and breakfast bakery goods will be provided in the morning. Participants must bring their own sleeping gear, tent, lawn chairs, bug spray, flashlights, additional food and drink, games, toys, personal items, etc. All children must be accompanied by a parent. On Saturday, April 8 at Woodridge Park District’s Community Clean-Up the Parks Day, community members of all ages helped clean the parks. With the volunteers’ help, the park district collected 2 tons of garbage and 60 gallons of recycling. The volunteers essentially donated 600 man hours to the Woodridge Park District. This year’s cleaning efforts included Crabtree Creek, Cypress Cove, Hawthorne Hill Woods, Ide’s Grove East Park, Ide’s Grove West Park, Lake Harriet, Orchard Hill Park, bike trail from 83rd Street to Internationale Parkway, bike trail from Cypress Cove to 75th Street, Crabtree Creek, 63rd Street Park and Creek, Summerhill Park and Creek, Sunnydale Park, Westminster Park, and Windy Point Park.

Hawthorne Hill Woods will be transformed into a thrill of scary scenes, complete with all sorts of creatures that slither and groan. Patrons will wind their way through the haunted forest trail which will feature crazed maniacs and a new horror around every corner. The Saturday afternoon session will be more suitable for children 9 and under and the faint of heart (parental discretion). Haunted Fast Pass Downers Grove, Westmont, and Woodridge Park Districts The wait is over. The Haunted Fast Pass is your chance to bypass long lines and wait times of up to an hour at three participating Park District haunted houses, walks and hayrides. The Woodridge Park District is now taking reservations for groups who wish to have hayrides at the Community Center, 2600 Center Drive. The rides will be available for the months of September and October.
Every girl deserves to be a princess so treat one of the most special ladies in your life to an evening filled with fun! A pizza dinner and refreshments will be provided. Full Moon Pumpkin Carve
Santa’s Bedtime Stories
Settle in for some Halloween family fun that will make your kids smile rather than shriek in horror. We will carve jack-o-lanterns, enjoy a hayride around Woodridge and enjoy a bonfire by the lake. Each person with receive a pumpkin and candle. Please bring your own carving utensils and cameras. Weather permitting; much of the evening will be spent outdoors so please dress accordingly. Dress in your pajamas and slippers and join Santa and his elves for some holiday fun. Santa’s reindeers are up to mischief and will spread surprises all over the Community Center for a treasure hunt. Winter Wonder Camp Spend those long days during your winter break participating in a variety of activities including games, arts & crafts, sports and field trips! Participants will need to bring a sack lunch, beverage and additional snack each day. Ride DuPage Program For persons 65 years and older Once registered, you have one phone number to call: 1-800-713-7445. For TTY use 1-800-713-7415 PACE call center. Make a reservation up to 7 days in advance between the hours of 6:00 a.m. - 7:00 p.m. You will be given the cost of your ride at the time you make your reservation, and then pay for the ride on the vehicle. The Rules of the Road Review Course is designed to give drivers especially senior citizens and persons with disabilities the knowledge and confidence needed to renew or obtain a driver’s license. Pilot II Taxi Program The Village of Woodridge is now offering the Subsidized Taxi Program. Participants must live in the village limits, be at least 60 years of age, or obtain a certified statement from a physician to verify disability. You may purchase coupons in person, by mail or visit the Woodridge Village Hall during regular business hours in person. Coupons cost $3 each and may be used throughout DuPage County. You may purchase up to 12 coupons each month, the coupon value is $5. A maximum of four coupons may be used per ride. RTA Reduced Fare for Seniors If you are age 65 or older and are not enrolled in the Illinois Department on Aging’s Circuit Breaker program, you are eligible for a reduced fare. AARP Driver Safety Course Why take a driver safety course? Because driving has changed since you first got your license. Cars have changed, so have traffic rules, driving conditions and the roads you travel on every day. Some drivers age 50+ have never looked back since they got their first driver’s licenses, but even the most experienced drivers can benefit from brushing up on their driving skills. By taking a driver safety course you’ll learn the current rules of the road, defensive driving techniques, and how to operate your vehicle more safely in today’s increasingly challenging driving environment. You’ll learn how you can manage and accommodate common age-related changes in vision, hearing and reaction time. You must attend both days to receive certificate. WPD Refund Policy
Canasta Canasta is a card game of the rummy family of games believed to be a variant of 500 Rum. It is most commonly played by four in two partnerships with two standard decks of cards. Duplicate Bridge This contract bridge game is called duplicate because the same bridge deal (i.e. the specific arrangement of the 52 cards into the four hands) is played at each table and scoring is based on relative performance. Tail Gaters Party
The Golden Years Club is open to anyone 50 years old or better. Weekly meetings are held on Thursdays from 1:00-4:00 p.m. at the Community Center. Regular activities include games, guest speakers, birthday parties, stimulating conversation, and much more. Throughout the year there are also special events and activities. There is a $25 annual fee which can be paid at any weekly meeting. Anyone who is interested in trying out the club can attend one meeting without paying. No Golden Years meeting on June 15.

Kidz Squad Before/After School KIDZ Squad is designed to provide a safe and structured program for children in grades K-6. Participants can take part in a variety of games, arts and crafts projects, have quiet time to do homework and enjoy active play time both indoors and out. KIDZ Squad Before School will be held at the Community Center starting 7:00 am. Transportation to each of the schools with be provided by school buses. KIDZ Squad After School will be held after school until 6:00 pm at the ARC. Children will be transported by school buses. A nutritious snack will be provided each day.
Important Parent Information KIDZ Squad will utilize an online system for parents and guardians to submit emergency information so we can access critical details like medical needs (e.g. allergies, medications, etc) or key contacts (e.g. legal guardians and other individuals allowed to pick up/drop off a child). This online system also allows staff to stay in contact with parents/guardians through a variety of means. The parent/guardian listed as the main contact will receive an email, following registration, with directions and a link to complete all required forms through the ePACT Network. It is the responsibility of the parent/guardian to keep all ePACT information and forms up to date in the event that any information regarding your child changes. It is imperative that the Woodridge Park District have an up-to-date email address for the parent(s)/guardian(s) of each participant. The ePACT information must be completed ONE WEEK prior to your child’s first day at KIDZ Squad. Parent Manuals are available online at www.woodridgeparks.org
Tution & Payments The fees listed are based on the entire school year divided into nine equal payments. All non-attendance days such as legal holidays, school improvements days, teacher conferences, and other school breaks are not included. The fees are due on the 25th of each month, beginning September 2017 and ending April 2018. Your first payment is due at registration. If you register after the first day of school you will be given a payment schedule based on all attendance days from your child’s first day through the remaining school days of the year. Changes to your child’s schedule or withdraws are due by the 20th of the month prior to the change. Change request received after the 20th are subject to a $25 fee. No change of schedules or withdrawals will be taken after April 20, 2018. For your convenience an automatic charge plan is available. Complete the Auto Charge Payment Plan Agreement at registration and all scheduled payments will be charged to your designated account on the 25th of the month. If you prefer to mail or drop off your payment, a payment coupon is available and must accompany the payment. In order for your child to attend KIDZ Squad the first week of school (August 16-18), you must be registered no later than Thursday, August 10 at 8:30 pm. Registrations received after August 10 will not be able to attend KIDZ Squad until the week of August 21. Participants will learn Irish Step and Figure Dancing and can participate in parades, competitions and Weber Dance recitals. Dance Program The Lisle/Woodridge Park District dance program is designed to improve grace and flexibility while exposing participants to the beauty and benefits of dance. This is a cumulative program that runs fall 2017 through spring 2018. Dancers will learn techniques and skills throughout the year, and during Session 2, each class will learn a dance that will be performed in the Spring Recital. A dancer will stay with the same class for the whole school year - no new students will be added in Session 2. Dancers can expect to spend 2-3 years per level to master the skills necessary to move up to the next level.

Recital All dance classes will perform in the Spring Recital that will be presented on Sunday, May 6, 2018 at the Lisle High School Auditorium at 1:00 pm or 4:00 pm. The dress rehearsal will be on Friday, May 4, 2018 at the Lisle High School Auditorium. Each class will be assigned a rehearsal time between 4:00 pm and 9:00 pm. Tickets will be on sale April 9 - May 3 for $3.00 or at the door for $5.00. Costumes All participants must attend the costume fitting during class time January 8-13, 2018. A separate costume fee of $50-$70 will be charged and is due at the fitting. This fee is non-refundable. If you withdraw from a dance class for any reason after the costumes are ordered, you will still receive a costume. Students must have a costume to participate in the recital. Music Time This fun-filled class is designed to nurture the growing independence of the 2 1/2 through 5 year olds. Activities will include singing, chants and rhymes, listening activities, group dancing, instrument playing, as well as literature and stories to creatively bring to life on xylophones and percussion instruments. Shooting Stars Gymnastics
The Woodridge Park District Pee Wee (Age 4-5) Youth Soccer Program is a Corec program that places emphasis on skill development, fundamentals, sportsmanship, and fun. Everyone is guaranteed a chance to play more than a half of each game. The number of teams and sizes are set by registration. Teams will be set one week prior to the coaches meeting. Players are not necessarily on the same team each season. If your child is in Kindergarten in the Fall 2017/Spring2018, your child should sign up for the WSA Micro I Division, not this program. Participants need to provide their own cleats, shin guards and socks to cover the shin guards. Format 4x4 on 30x20 yard field with small goals.
Shooting Stars helps every student, new and old, improve the basic skills appropriate for this age. Returning students will continue learning by making the next progression up in their development of gymnastics skills. Fun and interesting challenges await your child in this class! The first two weeks are for practice. Teams meet no more than twice a week. Players are contacted by coaches after they have been assigned to a team. Volunteer coaches are needed. High Ropes Course Challenge Located 25 feet above the athletic turf field, the ropes course is a thrilling activity with five different challenging course elements. You can even choose a free-fall experience with a controlled descent using magnetic braking technology to the turf floor below. Participants must be at least 42 inches tall and less than 6’ 3’ tall; and weigh at least 45 lbs. and no more than 275 lbs. Yin & Restorative Yoga Yin Yoga is a slow-paced style of yoga with postures that are held for longer periods of times. Bulls-eye! Come and receive instruction in the Olympic sport of archery. Instruction is provided by a team of National Archery Association certified instructors who will assist you in learning in a fun and safe environment. All equipment will be provided. Open to both youth and adults, beginners as well as intermediates you will learn archery basics including range safety, whistle commands, proper stance and the draw and release of arrows starting at a 10-yard distance. Co-Rec Youth Volleyball League - two seasons now available

This league emphasizes fundamentals, skill development, teamwork, sportsmanship, and fun. At this level, participants play on age appropriate nets and use softer volleyballs. Everyone is guaranteed to play an equal amount of time because there is no substitution (substitution is on rotation). Practice is once a week for an hour, along with one game per week. Practices and games will be held between the times listed below. Practice times are selected by the Volunteer Coaches. Coaches will contact players following the coaches meeting in June. Practices are one hour long and held one day a week either on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday or Friday from 5-9 pm. Coaches will sign up for a practice spot from the available practice slots. Games will take place between 6-9 pm on Sunday’s. All players must wear gym shoes; participants receive team t-shirts. Anyone interested in helping as a coach or assistant coach should mark that down on the registration form. All participants must preregister, including those whose parents are volunteer coaches. Register early, as this league is expected to fill quickly. Grades maybe combined if there isn’t enough enrollment in one grade.

Open Ropes Course Take the ARC High Ropes Challenge individually or with a friend. Our trained facilitators will put this group through an orientation and then lead participants out on the course to take on the six high ropes elements, 25 feet above the ground. Participants will also be able to experience our Quick Jump, which allows participants to jump off a platform 25 feet in the air on to the turf field below. All participants must sign the ARC High Ropes Course waiver and preregister by Friday, March 17 to participate. Indoor High Ropes Course Rental Choose your own adventure with the ropes course! Located 25 feet above the athletic turf field, the ropes course is a thrilling activity with five different challenging course elements. You can choose a free-fall experience with a controlled descent using magnetic braking technology to the turf floor below. This course is perfect for party rentals, scheduled programs, school/camp field trips and youth/adult leadership activities. All participants must sign the ARC High Ropes Course waiver. If you missed out on our May outing, join us on our last trip to Wrigley Field this year. The Cubs face our rival Mets led by Yoenis Cespedes. The price includes the cost of a terrace reserved ticket and transportation. Children under 13 years old must be accompanied by an adult. Game time is 7:05 pm with the bus leaving promptly at 4:15 pm. Due to the popularity of this trip, we will be conducting a lottery drawing. West Dupage Humane Society The West DuPage Humane Society is a volunteer-based, animal welfare organization that houses up to 25 dogs and 60 cats at a time. If vandalism has already occurred, please call the Police Department at (630) 7194740 and notify the Woodridge Park District at (630) 353-3300. The Park District is now sponsoring a program specifically targeting arson prevention through the new Arson Tipster Award Program. The Arson Tipster Program rewards residents for providing information that leads to the arrest of the arson perpetrator or conspirator. All communication between the Woodridge Park District and the Arson Tipster is kept strictly confidential. The Woodridge Park District will not release or disclose any information furnished by the Arson Tipster without the Tipster’s explicit consent and approval. Arson Tipsters may be eligible for a cash reward. To provide a tip or get more information about the Arson Tipster Program, contact the Woodridge Park District at (630) 353-3300. Memorial Tree Program The Woodridge Park District Memorial Tree program provides residents the opportunity to purchase a tree in memory of a loved one or to honor a special occasion. Your participation in the Memorial Tree program will not only provide a lasting memory, but will also help to beautify our parks and trails. In addition to the tree, a bronze plaque is available and may include the name of the tree, year of dedication, name of person the memorial is for and a brief personalized message. A Park District staff member will assist in locating the site, choosing the tree, and selecting the wording for the plaque. Please refrain from feeding the birds at Lake Carleton and Lake Harriet along with other lakes in the area. The waterfowl have become used to handouts and no longer migrate south in the winter. The once wild birds have become tame and have lost their fear of cars and people, which can lead to traffic problems and possible injury. With the growing populations of waterfowl in small concentrated areas, the competition for food is high. The less nutritious handouts and harsh weather increase their susceptibility to life threatening diseases. We ask that you please do not feed the waterfowl. Thank you for your support. We are committed to giving the residents of Woodridge quality programs at reasonable prices, and we are prepared to stand behind the programs we offer. We will invite you to repeat a class at no charge, receive a credit toward another program in the session, or receive a full refund (minus $5 administrative charge).
Participants/parents/guardians/spectators shall exhibit appropriate behavior at all times. The Park District developed the following guidelines to help make programs safe and enjoyable for all participants. The Park District may develop additional rules for particular programs and athletic leagues as deemed necessary by staff. Participants/parents/guardians/spectators shall: 1. Show respect to all participants, staff, referees, volunteers and spectators; and take direction from staff. 2. Refrain from using abusive or foul language. 3. Refrain from threatening or causing bodily harm to self, other participants, spectators, referees and staff. 4. Respect all equipment, supplies, and facilities. 5. Not possess any weapons
No refund will be granted after the third meeting of the program or after 50% of the classes have been held (whichever is earlier) with the exception of a written medical excuse prior to completion of the program. A $5 administrative charge will be deducted from the amount of refund for each program, including refunds for medical reasons. Medical excuses will result in a pro-rated refund based upon the number of classes held prior to the date listed on the physician’s excuse. No refunds will be given for a trip unless there is a replacement participant or the trip is cancelled. The Park District does reserve the right to cancel a program if the enrollment is not sufficient to justify sponsorship of the activity. Participants will receive a phone call and the option of a refund or leaving the balance on their account. We ask for your feedback to help us serve our residents to the best of our ability and to achieve our goal to make this the most cooperative, public accessible park district in the state. Photography/Videotaping Policy The Woodridge Park District photographs and videotapes participants in its programs, special events or facilities to publicize recreational opportunities. We do not use any identification in our brochures. By registering for a program, participants and parents/ guardians of participants consent to being photographed and videotaped. These photographs and videotapes will be used to promote the Park District through press releases, brochures, the web site and other promotional materials. Please tell the instructor and photographer if you do not want to be photographed.
Staff will use a positive approach regarding discipline. Staff will periodically review rules with participants during the program session. If inappropriate behavior occurs, prompt resolution will be sought, specific to each individual’s situation. The Agency reserves the right to dismiss a participant from a program or a parent/guardian/spectator from a program area whose behavior is inappropriate or endangers the safety of himself/herself or others. Special Note To Parents The Woodridge Park District provides a safe and stimulating environment for your child’s growth, please help us maintain our high-quality programs. • Safety: Please drop off and pick up your child at the classroom door. • Age: To enroll in a class, a child must have attained the proper age of the desired class by the first class session. • Proof of Age: Proof of age in the form of a birth certificate may be required. If a child is not the appropriate age for a class, he/she will be dropped from the program. • Parent & Child Classes: Siblings of the enrolled children may not attend class. Rotary Club of Woodridge Program Assistance Plan The Rotary Club of Woodridge acknowledges the need for residents with an economic hardship to enrich their lives through participation in recreation programs. To ensure equal access to recreation programs throughout the Woodridge Park District, the Rotary Club of Woodridge will provide funding assistance/scholarships for District residents in financial need subject to available and fiscal year appropriations. Assistance may be in the form of a payment plans whereby the cost of the program will be spread over a period of time to allow the family/individual to afford the program as determined by the District or may be a partial scholarship whereby the cost of the program will be reduced according to the guidelines and the difference reimbursed by the Rotary Club. Applications are available at the Woodridge Park District Community Center. Applications will be considered for approval within 3 working days of submission and are completely confidential. Residents using the Program Assistance Plan will follow normal registration procedures. For more information, please go to the Community Center and pick up an application. Participants must reside within the boundaries of the Woodridge Park District to be eligible.

Enrollment Status: Please do not call the Park District office concerning your enrollment status in programs until after August 16, 2017. Participants should assume they are registered in a class unless contacted by the Park District. General Registration Information 1. Telephone registration will NOT be accepted. 2. When completing your form, you MUST provide ALL the requested information. Forms that are not filled out completely or unreadable will be returned. The information on the form is imperative for processing. 3. Participants should assume they are registered in a class unless contacted by the Park District. If a registrant was not randomly selected into a class, the Park District staff will contact the registrant by telephone to discuss other program options. In many cases the staff will be opening new sessions of the more popular programs. 4. If the program of your choice is filled, we will automatically put your name on the waiting list. 5. Resident fees are for Woodridge Park District residents. Nonresident fees are 50% more than resident fees. 6. The Woodridge Park District cannot be responsible for late or misdirected mail. 7. There will be a $25 service charge for checks returned due to insufficient funds. 8. Participants must be of age by the first day of class. Registration Policies 1. Waiting lists will be taken when programs are filled, and every attempt will be made to accommodate people on these lists. 2.
