Analysing an Agent

When you’re looking for an agent to sell your home, take the time to find one who appreciates the importance of your most valuable financial asset.

• What can you tell me about homes that have sold in the area that are like mine?

So, how do you go about finding the best person to sell your home?

Apart from personal chemistry, what things should you consider when choosing your agent? Check out this list of questions that every agent should be able to answer. • How long have you been working in the area? • Do you live in the area? If so, for how long have you lived here?

• How much of your business comes from referrals and repeat business?

Finding an Agent

• What should I do to get the house ready for the market?

First, you have to actually find some agents to consider! Try the following tactics for meeting agents in your area:

• Where do buyers come from? How will a person find my home?

1. Ask Around – chances are your friends and family have all worked with an agent at some point in their life. Agents often get a huge amount of business from referrals; or at least they do if they’re good.

• How will my home be marketed? Why is that style of marketing best for my home?

2. Attend Open Houses – if you have some time before you put your home on the market, try attending some open houses in your area as this can be a great opportunity to meet them face to face and size them up.

• What happens to the enquiries on my property when you’re not available?

3. Look for Ads – successful agents will often put ads out in local newspapers and magazines. If you’re looking for someone who will have a team of professionals helping them, then browse your local newspapers for advertisements.

• What happens when a buyer looks through my home?

If you find someone you think you might like, set up a meeting. And remember, one meeting does not mean you are committed to working with them. It is simply a time for you to take a good look at that person and their qualifications, and see if they meet your needs.
