COACHES WRAP Joel Edwards - League After commencing in early January, Stirling Saints enjoyed a long and strenuous pre-season schedule. The boys worked hard to build a solid fitness base and sharpen the skills needed to have a successful season. With the addition of a few key players plus some old players coming back everything looked good and on track. Unfortunately things didn’t go to plan round 1 coming up short against the unknown Quinns. A few shining lights amongst the group were Clinton Strauch, Chris Kercheval and Justin Wood. The coaching group addressed some important issues which subsequently led us to a 1 goal win over Lynwood Ferndale. Although

we had a good win led by Adam Edwards, Chris Kercheval & Rory Muller, there was still much room for improvement.

Jamie Clark – Reserves This season the club has gained the services of a past player as Senior coach. Joel Edwards was held in high regard during his playing days and at his first stint at coaching seems to have the full support of the playing group and is well respected.

Game 2 Vs Lynwood : Ressies win !! For the first time in over a year the reserves win a game, and good to win the first home game. We had plenty of possession but didn’t capitalise on the dominance and woeful kicking (6/16) kept Lynwood in the game til the end. Eventually win by 20 points. Best players: Corfius , Glenno, Bunney and Cody. Good games from colts players Cocker, Kyle, Johnno & Miles.

With Joel comes the services of Michael Evans (assistant coach) and Ryan Murphy (runner) and myself as Reserves coach and (match day assistant). My role as Reserves coach is to assist Joel and Michael wherever possible and to try to turn the fortunes of the Reserves outfit around. For far too many years the “twos” have been far from competitive and this needs to change. The pre-season form has been good this year, but unfortunately the first game against Quinn’s saw us over run in the second half and we ended losing by a 60 point margin.

In round 3 we came up against Gosnells who had wins in their first two games. From the outset everything we have been working on seemed to be going to plan. We put together 4 quarters of high pressure football for the first time in a long time to come away with an impressive 12 goal win. Damien Lloyd led the way with 5 goals with Sandro Brezar giving our mids first use of the ball all day. Looking forward to a home game against Canning on Saturday 10th May.

Game 3 Vs Gosnells: back to back wins !! Once again dominated most of the play thanks to solid ruck work from Robbo, who was well assisted by young Jack. Sam Day was solid up forward kicking 7 goals, with great delivery from Mark Baker, Rothy, and Cocker. Glenno and Bunney very good in the midfield and the back six very solid....led well by Ando (captain). Eventual winners by 22points. Looking forward to the next game......

PAST PlaYERS AND SPONSORS DAY 17TH MAY Spread the word and get down to Richard Guelfi Reserve, as we want as many sponsors and past players who donned the Stirling, Balcatta, and Osborne Park jumpers in years gone by to come down and support the current crop of players.

Tell a story and relive the glory days!
