Candidates and Manifestos VICE PRESIDENT – EDUCATION Charlotte Goss - Geography I’m Charlotte and I’m campaigning to become your Vice President Education! My time as a student councillor, StAR and Institute rep for the Institute of Science and the Environment has given me a taste of representing student views, and I’ve discovered that it’s something I really enjoy! I believe that my experience will bring positive change if I am elected. I shall strive to achieve this by; Utilising a variety of communication methods to ensure that students are made aware of and are consulted of changes taking place in the university that may affect them. Working closely with students to ensure that Worcester Weeks are used for how they want, including course specific activities and cross institute events. Working with the university and ILS staff to improve the student experience at the Hive, and campaigning for the purchase of ebook copies of core textbooks. Working closely with mature students, international students and students on placement to ensure that they have the same opportunities as other students. Working towards consistent and regulated feedback, shaping it using input from students. Improving online submission and encouraging its use across the university. Boosting the hidden costs campaign, letting students know what to expect, and working towards reimbursements in some costs such as printing. Provide more opportunities for StARs and improving the accreditation system to involve all students. So I’m asking you to let me be your voice in education and vote Charlotte Goss as your first choice candidate for VP Education.
Pete Orton – Journalism and Politics SU Elections:
Tuesday 4th March – Friday 7th March on www.worcsu.com vote PETE ORTON your #1 choice
for Vice-President, Education
Hi, I’m Pete Orton, a third-year Journalism Student, standing Vice President for Education. I want to work for YOU to improve this University and represent ALL students to ensure YOU are getting value for money when it comes to education. If elected I will:
Pressure all Course Institutes to fulfil their promise of quick responses on Module Grades and Feedback; and to offer YOU more extensive Feedback on assignments. Campaign for better quality contact-time between YOU and the lecturers, e.g. more 1-to-1 tutorials. Try to simplify the module selection process, ensuring YOU can take the most appropriate modules to YOUR studies, without the hassle of the current system. Work to get more electronic submissions for assignment hand-ins, saving YOU money on unnecessary printing costs. Give more publicity to the StARs system (Student Reps), so that YOU know who represents YOU, and host open meetings to discuss any issues. I want to work for YOU to make the University of Worcester a better place for ALL students and give YOU the value for money that YOU deserve. So vote Pete Orton as YOUR #1 choice for Vice-President, Education. Make the Uni complete…VOTE for Pete!
Tom Clarke – Geography My name is Tom Clarke. I studied Geography for 3 years and have been the Vice President Education at the Students Union for 1 year. I feel my year in this role has left me with an excellent knowledge in what you want from your educational experience at the University. If elected I aim to emphasise that I am here for you and will be there to make sure that your voices and opinions are heard across the University.
If re-elected I propose to campaign for; More regular feedback to be given throughout modules. The introduction of free printing credit to be given to all students at the start of the academic year. Students to be able to design their own Worcester Weeks to suit them and reintroduce a ‘Reading Week’. Online submission to be introduced across the University. Improving facilities at the Hive, such as the introduction of free parking spaces for students wishing to just drop off library books. Through the use of the StAR system, make sure students are involved in all major decisions made at the University. Carry on attempting to reveal all hidden course costs to ensure students know what they have to pay for. Mature students make up 64% of the student population, I aim to make sure they feel fully supported by the Students Union and University. A further 7-10% are international students, I aim to ensure they are integrated into University life and encourage them to get involved in sports and societies.
