Manifestos – Vice President Education LEWIS ARNOLD Lewis Arnold Manifesto for the 2015 student election for the position of vice president education.
I feel that over my 3 years at the University I have gained a vast amount of knowledge regarding the educational experience and therefore feel that I can be an effective vice president for education.
If elected into the position I want to:
· Liaise with the University to organize more frequent feedback to students regarding their academic performance, in order to ensure that students have as much support in trying to achieve the best grade possible.
· Introduce an online booking system across all subjects, to allow students to book tutorials without having to travel to the University.
· Online submission to be introduced across all subjects so that students do not have to travel to University just to hand in work, or spend money on printing.
· Improve the complicated module selection process ,so that students can make informed decisions regarding their modules and timetables.
· Publicize information on degree classification so that all students are aware of their degree progress, and know how well they need to perform to come out of university with their desired classification.
· Develop a closer link with the Mature Students Officer, with the aim to integrate Mature Students further into the University. #LA4VP
ZARINA AZAM I'm an avid sociology student always on the lookout for new opportunities. A love for working with people has carried me through to my third year of study at Worcester University and I am looking to do something of real value. That’s why I have decided to run for Vice President of education. If elected I will be your Vice president of education 2015/2016 and will *Provide mentoring/buddy schemes to help first year students throughout the process of starting university, making it less daunting. *Help provide volunteering /work placement opportunities to students as I myself struggled. This would be highly beneficial to students. *Giving students a platform for entrepreneurial schemes by creating links with businesses which will ultimately allow our students to set up their own business and even promoting these through stalls in the SU. From setting up food stalls to setting up tutoring. Why get external companies in when we can get our students setting up their own business? * Charity events are something I am used to doing and this is something I would like to encourage all students to get involved. it’s a way of encouraging experience but also raises awareness of issues and promotes a positive portrayal of our students. *Providing students with the resources and providing frequent workshops for them to achieve high. *Giving recognition students that not only achieve high but those who progress as there is a high emphasis on those who get the best grades and not on improvement and effort.
SAMI BEAN Vote Sami Bean as 1st choice for Vice President of Education!
I am a 3rd year English Literature student, a current StAR for my subject, but I’m not just a bookworm. I love all elements of life from watching Netflix in my onesie to catching up with my friends in the bar at the Pear Tree! I also want to become your next Vice president of Education. The union is here to help you, to make you feel even more a part of the Worcester community, especially within the realm of education. If elected I aim too:
· To make StAR’s more recognisable to their students.
· Promote the benefits of becoming involved in your individual course.
· Provide more training and options to both volunteers and StAR’s.
Alongside all of these, I also understand there are more things that students worry about when it comes to their education which is why I intend to help in other ways too:
· To bring down printing prices through electronic submissions.
· To bring more opportunities for you students to network for your fast approaching career's.
Apart of my job will also be to make sure that your voice is heard when it comes down to recruiting future members of the education staff, after all this is your education...
So, if You're Keen Then Vote Bean on the 2nd - 6th March, because without your votes I can't carry out any of these ideas to make a great Students Union even better!
JACK CARVER Hi, I’m Jack Carver, I’m in my third year of studying Creative Digital Media and I’m standing for Vice President Education in the SU Elections. I’ve been involved with the Student’s Union since my first year through the StAR system, representing my course at the forums each semester. I’ve also been working with Energize Worcester since 2013 so I’ve gotten to know the SU team. As well as this I’ve been working as a Student Ambassador which has extended my network and given me an opportunity to meet a lot of University staff. I’m currently on the team responsible for planning the Worcester School of Arts Degree Show. If elected my main aims are:
To focus on strengthening the SU’s position within the University by increasing student engagement, resulting in an increase in grant funding from the University and therefore a greater ability to affect change and to ensure the highest quality experience for all students.
To develop an online platform specifically for the StAR system to improve accessibility and communication for all students, this way your opinions, concerns. complaints and suggestions can be dealt with much more efficiently, allowing the problems to be dealt with as they arise rather than just twice per semester at StAR forums.
To raise the standards of the feedback system, ensuring all students are getting detailed and personalised feedback for their work. I would aim to implement optional feedback tutorials to give students a better understanding of how to improve on future assignments.
CHRISTOPHER NEWBOULD In my time I have been a STAR for three years; I have been the Chair of LOCO Show CO.; I am also the Finance and Distribution Manager for the Voice and I am a member Student Council, to greater improve the lives of students. Policies: • Stealth Course Costs Many courses have undisclosed fees. These fees need to be more transparent. They can be included in the description when choosing modules. Where possible I would look into getting these fees removed. • Access Limits for set/key texts Key texts available online should not have access limits. • Greater inclusion of minority groups within the dealings of the SU (Mature Students, LGBTQ+, Ethnic Minorities, Disabilities etc.) The SU is working hard to increase the inclusion of these groups. I would do my utmost to further this aim. • STAR System The STAR system does great work improving courses for the students AFTER they have completed their course. I want greater improvements during the courses and greater feedback, so students know raising issues has made the learning of other students better. • Greater transparency of modules Many students have told me they start a module and find it is not what they where expecting. This can be easily fixed: when choosing modules a PDF of the previous years module guide could be attached. While not accurate as the previous years, this would give a sense of tone for the module and a much greater understanding of the module its self.
