CHAPTER 1

The Whole Story

I

n order to reacquire that biblical worldview and grasp its principles, we must see the world through a specific set of lenses crafted by God and designed to give us 20/20 vision. To gain that vision, we must ask the fundamental questions: Who is God? Why did he make everything? Why is it all so messed up? What, if anything, has he done about it? These questions are especially necessary for many of us who have grown up Catholic. We have to ask ourselves, “Do I regularly hear the gospel at Mass?” I don’t mean Matthew, Mark, Luke, or John; we hear those every week. I mean the gospel— the incredible, life-changing proclamation of what God has done for us in Jesus. In Romans 1:16, St. Paul said, “For I am not ashamed of the gospel: it is the power of God for salvation to every one who has faith, to the Jew first and also to the Greek.” The gospel is power for salvation. And what does salvation mean? Health, healing, freedom, wholeness. Like Humpty Dumpty, we fall off the wall every day. In our fragile humanity, we crack and split and are broken. God picks up the pieces
