Come Worship the Lord
The Word Among Us Guide to Prayer
1. Set a Time and a Place Choose a time and place that are free of distractions. Put aside your anxieties and concerns. 2. Get Cleaned Up Examine your conscience and ask God to forgive you for any sins you find. Remember his mercy and his love. Celebrate the Sacrament of Reconciliation if necessary. 3. Proclaim the Truths of Your Faith God created me because he loves me. God sent his Son to save me from sin. God sent the Holy Spirit to help me and guide me. Jesus is interceding for me in heaven. Jesus will come again. Say the Apostles’ Creed or the Nicene Creed aloud, affirming each truth. 4. Worship God Say the Lord’s Prayer slowly and prayerfully. Read a Psalm, and let it lift up your heart. Honor God with your own words of praise.
5. Imaginative Prayer Choose a story from Scripture, and read it carefully. (Examples: Luke 15; John 4; Exodus 14; 1 Kings 19) Use footnotes and commentaries for insights into the story. Picture yourself in the scene; try to observe the details. Try to sense what the Holy Spirit may be saying to you. Write down what you saw and felt. Write down a message for your day. 6. Intercede Present your prayer requests to God: Your personal needs. The needs of your loved ones. The needs of the Church. The needs of the world. 7. Offer a Closing Prayer Pray the Hail Mary, the Morning Offering, or some other prayer. Dedicate yourself to the Lord. Ask him to bless your day.
