It is disheartening when doctors voice out the days a patient has left to live, sometimes said unapologetically. Sadly this is the bitter reality that greets over three thousand mesothelioma patients annually. The bitter part of it is that majority of those diagnosed contacted the disease at a point in their occupation.
Mesothelioma is a malignant form of lung cancer that results from prolonged exposure to asbestos fiber. Once the asbestos particles get into the lung cavity, they lodge in the tissues where they cause inflammation. Gradually, they cause the cells in the region to divide uncontrollably.
