The Reweaving the Ecological Mat (REM) initiative is premised on the knowledge and experience that the neoliberal model of economic development is not appropriate for the Pacific. While it is acknowledged that this model of development has led to some improvements to human life in the Pacific, and across the world in general, it is not beneficial to the common good of the vast majority of the world’s people, including the Pacific. In real terms, it benefits only a very tiny minority of the world’s population-the richest and economically most powerful individuals and groups.
