Interview with bespoke furniture expert Matilde Metcalf

Tell us a little about the background of Malbe and how you were established? After 20 years of passionate research in modern luxury design, Malbe was created in 2008. Malbe sought to satisfy a growing demand from customers in search of elegantly curated bespoke pieces for their interior projects. Since its conception, Malbe has been uncompromisingly committed to using only exceptional quality materials, from the finest fabrics to luxurious leathers, coupled with outstanding craftsmanship. Malbe supply an elegant, yet forward-thinking range of furniture, upholstery and lighting to ensure the whole design project is a convenient and effortless experience for our clients. Mable’s capability lies in our versatility, while we often supply entire projects with furniture, upholstery and lighting, we are also able to supply individual one-off pieces. Over the years, Malbe has grown from strength to strength with our ever-growing client base thanks to countless referrals from satisfied clients.

How would you describe the type of clients who buy from Malbe? Our clients range from private individuals to interior designers to property developers. Some clients have a specific design in mind and need our help to make that vision a reality, while other clients are less certain, in which case our highly trained team of designers help them to explore various options with visuals and sample materials to aid their decision-making process. Our exceptional design team has experience in assisting Property Developers, helping them to target their preferred buyers in the market with our refined and sophisticated interiors, which ultimately facilitates the sale process. Malbe also assists both Interior Designers and Architects to bring to life their unique designs with bespoke furniture and accessories for their projects.

Is there a project you are most proud of? Malbe has been commissioned for the entire furnishing of a large Victorian Show House on Richmond Hill. All the furniture were elegantly tailored for this project which created a striking modern interior. The gorgeous development was promptly sold for well above its market price, leaving the Developer delighted.

What would you say is your unique selling point? Whether a specific wood is needed, or a certain shade or tone needs to be applied to a piece of furniture to achieve the desired look.
