NEWS & TRENDS NEERA IS A MINIMALIST TASK CHAIR SUITABLE FOR HOME ENVIRONMENTS Working from home continues to be the norm for the foreseeable future, and while many of us have made peace with our make-shift home offices, there can always be room for improvement when it comes to function and aesthetics for our most hard-working (no pun intended) home furniture. As for the office chair, we’re either relegated to the couch, the bar stool, the dining chair, or an actual task chair that probably looks jarring in looks when placed in the backdrop of a home (and especially a home without an office). Enter Neera, a chair designed by Silvia Barile that fulfils the ergonomic duties of a task chair but looks suitable for the home environment.
JAIME HAYON DESIGNS A STOOL THAT WILL MAKE YOU SMILE It’s impossible not to feel some amount of joy when looking at the Smile Stool, right? Launched for Madrid Design Week 2021, the playful piece is all thanks to designer Jaime Hayon and his coll.
TAKE A JOURNEY TO THE MOON + BACK WITH MOONSTONE LIGHTING Now you can visit the moon in your own space, on your own time. We have Giopato&Coombes’ new Moonstone lighting collection to thank, featuring four faceted pendants inspired by lunar rock sculptures. Their design research led the two designers to the material used, where they worked to reveal each outlined shape directly within it. That material is a combination of handmade fibreglass that’s been infused with marble powder and ‘battuto’ Murano glass or linen glazed diffusers, depending on size.
AN 8.5 MILLION MODERN CLASSIC VILLA BY COVET HOUSE This secluded villa is the first of a series of luxury houses created by Covet House with the purpose of inspiring professionals and design lovers to new heights in this new era. The 8.5 million, 500 m2 mansion in Russia presents elegant bespoke interiors with a modern classic touch, and a perfect balance between statement handcrafted pieces and more neutral, functional elements. “This project is a staple on luxury design. We mixed high-end furniture pieces with a modern aesthetic and shaped them into reality”, said the luxury brand, Covet House.
SNØHETTA DESIGNS TOKYO RESTAURANT WITH ALLBLACK INTERIORS Architecture firm Snøhetta has worked with Bronx-based cooking collective Ghetto Gastro to create a jet-black eatery in Tokyo that will house immersive dining experiences. Set above a convenience store in the city’s Harajuku neighbourhood, Burnside is a casual restaurant by day and a bar and lounge by night. Space was designed with flexibility in mind, as it will host a rotating roster of chefs and be used for a wide variety of pop-ups and events. It comprises a 30-person dining room with an open kitchen, all decorated using a dark material palette with ambercoloured accents. The eatery, which marks Snøhetta’s first project opening in Tokyo, was designed for art and design collective En One Tokyo, with help from local construction partner Kooo Architects and Ghetto Gastro – an ensemble of chefs that specialises in immersive dining experiences.
MUT DESIGN CLADS MODULAR VALENCIA PAVILION IN THOUSANDS OF WOODEN SCALES Valencia studio MUT Design has designed five modular pavilions clad in scales made from leftover wood for a travelling exhibition in Spain. CARL HANSEN & SON AND ILSE CRAWFORD LAUNCH LIMITED EDITION FIRST MASTERPIECES COLLECTION Ilse Crawford has developed a fresh colour palette for a limited-edition release of the first chairs that Wegner created for Carl Hansen & Son in 1950. The First Masterpieces collection - created to celebrate Hans J. Wegner’s enduring legacy and more than 70 years of collaboration - includes the most iconic designs in furniture history: CH22 Lounge Chair, CH23 Chair, CH24 Wishbone Chair, CH25 Lounge Chair and the CH26 Chair. The five designs have very different expressions yet are all bearing Wegner’s unique fingerprint and emphasis on impeccable craftsmanship. “These pieces were the forerunners for what would develop into an impressive collection of some of the most iconic pieces of furniture in the world, and to be able to refresh them for a new generation is a great pleasure,” commented Carl Hansen & Son CEO, Knud Erik Hansen. “Ilse has an ability to imbue any project with great insight and relevance, and this new colour scheme has its own cultural history, rooted in Nordic abstraction.”
CHARLOTTE PENDANT LAMP BY DANIEL BECKER STUDIO Designed by Daniel Becker Studio, Charlotte is a LED pendant, created with the latest generation of filament strips, featuring a noble yet minimalistic brass frame structure. When turned off, Charlotte is a refined sculptural object with subtle technical detailing referencing heavy metalwork. When turned on, its lights seem to float in space weightlessly. The proportions of the luminaire have been designed to fit large tables. The two upper LED sources emit the light directly upwards and the other two illuminate the table surface generously. Charlotte fills the space with a highly pleasant, non-blinding light. The frame structure safely provides the electricity for the LEDs, avoiding any visible cables.

TREND PRODUCTS: DESIGN GALLERIST It’s been a long year, so we have good reason to rejoice when thinking of the interior design trends coming up in 2021. From the growing importance of sustainable materials to elegant elements and a celebration of individuality and uniqueness, our 2021 trend pieces edit will provide you with a curated look that will bring your home a luxury and curated touch.
1. HALO MIRROR BOCA DO LOBO Halo Mirror was inspired by a phenomenon produced by light interacting with ice crystals suspended in the atmosphere, the Halo. Halos can have many forms, ranging from coloured or white rings to arcs and spots in the sky. Composed of a set of three mirrors, it allows different displays and creative settings. The big mirrors with different shapes have an elegant gold frame accent, perfect for contemporary interiors and elegant rooms, from stylish bedrooms to upscale halls or living rooms.
2. BOMA SIDEBOARD CAFFE LATTE Boma Sideboard was inspired by the Boma Plateau, a region in the east of South Sudan, which is also one of the few places where the wild Coffea arabica grows. This breathtaking landscape serves as inspiration for the Boma Sideboard design, where the round inox aged detail protrudes from the organic pattern of the decape wood, resembling the fantastic mountain that emerges from the plains of the Boma Natural Park.
3. TRISTEN BED CIRCU Tristen Bed was inspired by the movie Atlantics, it was made to shape comfort and to keep your little one’s dreams safe and sound while he/she travels through their imagination at night.
4. BMIDDLE MODULE, CAMALEONDA SOFA MARIO BELLINI The sectional elements of the Camaleonda sofa can be used freely and apart from one another. The backs and armrests are provided with rings and carabiners, which allows the user to create a perfect ‘seating landscape’. The sofa is very comfortable and the fact this wonderful piece is modular provides endless flexible solutions for any project or living room.
5. MARGARET ARMCHAIR FENDI CASA Iconic armchair of the new collection, it shows a padded frame with metal details in gun-metal, Bronze Shadow or Palladium finishes. In the Bracelet version, rear leg and steel details.
6. CONSTELLATION LITE COFFEE TABLE FENDI CASA The new version of one of the collection’s best sellers pays tribute to FENDI iconography. Lightweight steel frame in gun-metal grey, Bronze Shadow or Palladium finishing, with top supported by a metal disc inserted with extreme precision into the glass.
7. RIDLEY CHAIR BENTLEY CASA The Ridley chair reveals all the elegant design codes of the Bentley Home. The “S” shape of the main structure turns during its path, starting from the bottom as a base, which evolves into a seat and back, giving this product a great and unique design. The lightness is emphasized by the bevelled cut of the frame, which evokes the thin and aerodynamic lines typical of Bentley.
8. DEVEN CHEST OF DRAWERS TRUSSARDI CASA Inspired by Trussardi’s iconic Lovy Bag, the Deven line is enriched with a chest of drawers and bedside tables. Carlo Colombo reinterprets the working technique applied to the bag in the Vertical quilting in leather, playfully alternating between full and empty spaces, open compartments, drawers and doors with varying storage functions.
9. NOIRE ARMCHAIR BUGATTI HOME The Bugatti identity embodies the design of the Noire armchair, a tribute to French automotive history. Noire is inspired by the spectacular elegance of the car, as seen in its profile and unlike any other, identifies the spirit of Jean Bugatti: the legendary Type 57 SC Atlantic Coupé.

10. OVAL ARMCHAIR TRUSSARDI CASA Designed by Carlo Colombo, the Oval family reflects the heart of the Trussardi Casa 2020 collection. The Tru Damas fabric accentuates the iconicity of the armchair, an emblem of informal, young and dynamic elegance inspired by Trussardi understatement. The central element of the project is the metal oval profile of the Trussardi logo: like an ancient medieval emblem, it recalls the iconic Italian spirit of the Milanese brand. Made of steel in Dark Matt Bronze finishing, it features dark chocolate Vermont leather details with Greyhound logo print.
12. CLIFTON SOFÁ ROBERTO CAVALLI HOME A one of a kind, sensual sofa - the perfect expression of the true essence of the brand. Upholstered in nubuck, in an orange shade that evokes the warm and wildlands of the African savannah, the sofa features along with the external structure a “Spiga” quilting, while the cushions are upholstered with “Tigresse” velvet - pure animalier - winking at the wildest and sensual spirit of Roberto Cavalli Home Interiors.
13. RAIN ROUND CHANDELIER RESTORATION HARDWARE Master glass designer Alison Berger has created a dramatic evocation of rain, engaging the viewer in an ever-changing pattern of expansion and compression – much like the rhythm of a rainstorm itself. Suspended from slim black cords, drops of hand-blown glass encases the bulbs – creating the illusion of underwater illumination – and cast luminous ripples that wash across ceilings and walls.
14. TOGO CHAIR MICHEL DUCAROY FOR LIGNE ROSET A collection of all-foam cushion seating with no hardpoints. Its characteristic design will fit into both traditional and contemporary furnishing styles.
15. LAZYBONES LOUNGE STUDIOPEPE FOR BAXTER IT Frame in poplar plywood. Differentiated density polyurethane foam filling with acrylic fibre cover. Springing with woven elastic straps of covered rubber.
16. FLOCK OF LIGHT STUDIO TOER FOR MOOOI A flock of Light, by Studio Toer, transforms from a light and airy artistic design piece in the daytime to a swarm of bright lights at night. A flock of Light comes in two sizes: 11 and 21, after the number of light sources. Both sizes are made from brass cups, bronze wires and semi-transparent polycarbonate diffusers. This suspension lamp brings a bright, warm and poetic glow right after dark. A Flock of Light captured in stillness.
17. LITOS SEBASTIAN HERKNER FOR CAPPELLINI The Litos sofa, by Sebastian Herkner, with low backrests and uneven rounded shapes, inspired by the rocky Salento coastline, makes nature the protagonist of interior spaces. A leisurely invitation to relax, convene and enjoy life, the Litos sofa system, by Sebastian Herkner offers both separate and modular units, suitable for furnishing domestic settings or lounge areas in the hospitality field. With a structure made of wood conglomerate and pine plywood, these sofas are equipped with removable covers, in a selection of fabrics and leathers from the collection. Also available without armrests or with a single armrest, Litos modules are accessorized with free cushions that can be placed at will, for customised comfort.
18. SHORT KIDNEY KISMET TABLE JONATHAN ADLER Featuring a solid brass top inlaid with dazzling patterns in beautiful blue lapis and a shapely blackened wood and brass base, our slender Kismet Tables are a luxe layering piece whether together or apart. Slip one into place wherever you need a surface, or tuck the short table partially beneath its tall counterpart for eye-catching depth and dimension.

TRENDING PROJECTS Some design trends come, some design trends go – that’s how the industry of interiors keeps on evolving and reinventing itself. We all know how interior design took the center stage in 2020 and, in 2021, that tendency is getting even more expansive, determined and purposeful. As our lives become more focused on our homes, what’s emerging in the present year is a clear focus on creating a unique and totally liveable environment, while having an aesthetic appeal that tells something about who you are.
AN INTERIOR DESIGN ODYSSEY: Trends From All Over The World You Can Not Miss CovetED brings you amazing interior design trends from the biggest cities of the world that look forward to a conceptual rupture with conventional aesthetics but, at the same time, maintain some kind of familiarity you will easily associate with Paris, London, New York or Moscow. Contemporary urban cool is the perfect style for inner-city living. Cosmopolitan and hip but still comfortable and welcoming, London’s interior design is just like the people that live in the city - diverse and sophisticated. Urban cool seeks to find a soothing lived-in sense of charm for everyday life and that is surely a statement when it comes to the art of living. In London, you will not only find amazing residential designs but also remarkable hospitality interiors.
With names such as Katharine Pooley, Kelly Hoppen or Taylor Howes, London has a very unique sense of all things luxurious. Sometimes in the whole, sometimes in the little details, it’s an unforgettable eclectic allure that always brings us back to The Big Smoke. Always edgy, always beautiful.

MOSCOW MODERN CLASSIC LUXURY Considered by many as the design capital of Eastern Europe, Moscow is a beacon of quality and a promise of today’s design industry. In fact, Moscow and Russia’s recent design history is indeed extraordinary with many interior designers, architects and product designers showcasing amazing techniques and incredible projects. Moscow is where you will find the most spectacular representations of modern and classic design with a luxury touch.
At times more classic and traditional, others more modern and newfashioned, Moscow brings to us harmonious shapes inspired by modern classic concepts. Luxury means not being vulgar and, if you’re looking for thrilling compositions for the senses through out-of-thebox interiors, then the Russian capital is the perfect place to get you inspired. Cold on the outside, homely on the inside.
There is Balcon Studio and its artsy taste for decor, there are Lashmanova Design and its extremely luxurious style and there’s Timur Mitin blurring the boundaries between the imaginary and the real. The list goes on and on, with a keen focus on a soulful attitude and massive talent. From the architecture to the lighting, Moscow really has an inciting charisma all over.

presence… With all of this in mind, welcome to New York City!
Boho is for those who want their homes full of life, culture and interesting items for all the world to see - this aesthetic flies in the face of modern sensibilities and embraces the carefree, relaxed and unusual. On the other hand, industrial style is not all about oversized black metal windows, raw unfinished wood and exposed bricks. In fact, this design trend is quite flexible. It consists mostly of neutral hues and matters that focus on unique textures, encouraging the use of recycled materials and squared lines. These two different styles can coexist and they do… especially in New York City.
Interior designers from New York City are the epitome of an exploration of the now, always creating a new experience for the user that is both playful and poetic, yet pragmatic and functional. Names such as Sasha Bikoff, Ryan Korban or Jonathan Adler are shaping the city’s most treasured interiors, each one with its own language. More than how space looks, it’s becoming more and more about how it feels once you’re indoors.

That carpet has resonated through all of this time, a remarkable piece of tapestry that became has iconic has the movie itself. This is just a small example throughout all movie and tv history where many directors and movies became famous for their beautiful cinematography. Even in movies filled with CGI and green screen effects, set decorations are essential to fill us in the aesthetic and provide us as viewers with the ambience to the scene itself. From small details to overpowering sets, these often-overlooked details are what makes us feel what the characters are feeling and experiencing. Accessories, lighting, upholstery and architecture defined the mood throughout the movie and the scene itself, and one very wellexecuted example of this practical set decoration is the Marvel series “WandaVision”, where we’re transported through various decades of television, paying homage to the most iconic tv shows, from scenes set in the ’60s to contemporary times. Set decoration in this case was crucial, the amount of respect for the detail’s characteristic to the Epoque, and every set changed from decade to decade complete with furniture and aesthetics from the respective time. A masterpiece of set decoration that complemented with visual effects, wardrobe and exquisite acting, created a visionary series that completely stands out in modern tv.
“Set decoration, in this case, was crucial, the amount of respect for the detail’s characteristic to the Epoque“ The 60s aesthetic was amazing, but the 70s where those colours really came to life where what made the series stand out. With a midcentury vibe, where households became vibrant with accessories, stripes and patterns in every fabric, where a scene-stealer. Furniture brands like Essential Home, specialized in mid-century modern furniture are an example of how these decorators get amazing pieces to decorate their sets with timeless pieces, in fact, the brand is already a staple in movie set decoration, even working with other Marvel production such as Netflix’s “Luke Cage”, where a jazz club could not be complete without a magnificent Botti Chandelier, the perfect addition to the set of “Harlem’s Paradise”, the night club where some of the most important plot twists and one of the main locations of the series. The heavily inspired jazz theme throughout the set made this customized chandelier the perfect addition.

SPRING-SUMMER TRENDS 2022 After some time experiencing a new way of living as the result of this unexpected pandemic we have started to adapt to a new normal and have different needs. Experiencing the world and seeing things with new eyes made us change our habits rather quickly but we still need and want to experience life.
Interior design and fashion usually change according to seasons or social events but now more than ever we see these changes in habits leading us to new trends for spring-summer of 2022. Maybe these trends represent the need people have to embrace the warmth of the outdoors after
spending so much time indoors. Collectively we are feeling nostalgia for simpler and mellower times, for easy sunny days. Let’s create space for what we need, let’s create trends that will serve us and help us go through these times together and come back better from the experience.

distinguished LA designers, Rydhima Brar and Claudia Afshar!
RYDHIMA BRAR Rydhima Brar needs no introduction. The designer and founder/CEO of R/terior Studio, has been making waves in the design industry since she decided to design her own condo and this process actually helped her discover the sophisticated design signature style that turned out to be approachable yet editorial and functional. R/terior Studio is a well-established interior design firm based in the United States with offices in Kuwait, specializing in bold, eclectic and contemporary interiors. The renowned designer started her own personal project in the beginning of 2019, and her remarkable works have been featured in some of the most recognizable magazines such as Forbes & Wall Street Journal. One of the first topics we discussed was her unique name. Sometimes, it can be hard to pronounce it correctly, but the designer soon gave us a quick tip to get her name right. Pronounce rhythm. Did you say it? Now you just need to add an ‘a’ at the end. Simple, isn’t it? The most important part is to see how she started playing different rhythms of design and was able to come up with a beautiful symphony full of harmony. We can reveal that letter K, for example, was for Kelly Wearstler, and that letter Q was for quirky. But if you want to listen to Rydhima Brar’s entire ABCs, listen to the first episode of your future favorite design podcast! “There is no Planet B” – This is a quote Rydhima shared on her social media account a few months ago. As a member of the Good Furniture Design Alliance, an organization that comprises design and build professionals who are willing to innovate their businesses for the planet’s sake and reducing waste. The designer has shown us multiple ways of being more sustainable such as incorporating antique pieces or reupholstering existing furniture that add a different glow to her designers. Another way is to follow the upcoming eco-friendly brands. The designer shared that she came across an interesting design brand that creates children furniture from old toys, and that really inspired her because they are using creativity and transforming these items into pieces of art. Rydhima shared that one of her biggest goals for the next 3 to 4 years is to work in hospitality projects and, if possible, create an exclusive furniture line in collaboration with Essential Home. Essential Home is a mid-century Portuguese design brand and one of the designer’s favorites!
CLAUDIA AFSHAR The second special guest is the LA renowned designer, Claudia Afshar, who has an amazing portfolio filled with clean, sophisticated and functional High End Residential, Hospitality and Specialty Commercial Interiors Nationwide. From sunny Los Angeles, California, the mind behind Claudia Afshar Design accepted the invitation, and had a lovely talk regarding design and how it can be a useful tool to solve the world’s issues. “The difference between something good and something great, is the attention to detail.” Charles R.Swindoll This quote is the first sentence we read the minute we explore Claudia’s official website. The design expert’s clients range from families to celebrities and high-end property developers, and each project has its own fingerprint. The attention to detail is the key of her design. Raised between London and the British countryside, Claudia believes all her travels helped her shape her unique signature style that turned out to be functional yet sophisticated. You may have seen her work featured in some of the most distinguished design magazines such as Vogue, Elle Décor, Rue Magazine, and many other.
We can reveal that letter G, for example, was for Gallery, and that letter R was for Rug – Claudia Afshar Rug Collection (With exclusive content about her new line that will be launched soon!). But if you want to know everything about Claudia Afshar’s ABCs, listen to the second episode of your favorite design podcast! “Currently we are working on some lovely projects, both locally in California and nationwide. We have a beautiful contemporary new build overlooking stunning lake views up in Idaho, gorgeous renovations in La Canyada and Beverly Hills and a stunning contemporary new build in Holmby Hills, to name a few. We are also collaborating with various companies in showroom design, retail and commercial design as well as product development. The art of my design work is to interpret client’s requirements and make something that they truly love living in. This excites me and continually inspires both me and my team to develop new concepts and to transform the spaces we are given into unique and luxurious environments.”

INSPIRATIONS
ENTRYWAYS DÉCOR IDEAS They say don’t judge a book by its cover, and a home should be the same. But first impressions are very important and so it’s hard to deny the impact of a good entryway. The way you design your entryway can set the tone for the rest of the house. So you can go big and create an extravagant decoration or be softer and create a smother and minimalist design. The colours, shapes and even the materials you choose makes the atmosphere and home feel more inviting. Here you can get inspired by different entryway decor ideas to create the space of your dreams and tell your own story.
GOLD FEVER Gold is versatile and classic, it can be used as the star piece if you want something exuberant or as a detail if you prefer to make space elegant. Gold accents can be styled with bright hues like white or nudes to give a more Scandinavian vibe, with blue to become more elegant or even a mix of black and gold for a more mysterious interior. Since gold is one of the most significant symbols of wealth and prosperity, when you decorate the entryway with such an impressive accent it will be a strong reflection of your resilient personality and a solid statement of how you want to show your lifestyle.
BROWN AND CREAM TONES Brown and cream tones are perfect to create a relaxing and warm interior design project. If your goal for space is to create a serene charming vibe go for a brown cream colour palette and it will for sure be a comfortable and bright room. These colours are known for their neutral, peaceful influence so they are perfect to create different kinds of spaces from your own retreat, to elegant living rooms or modern and timeless dining rooms and even offices. The earthy and calming feeling that these hues provide makes them ideal for creating all sorts of rooms, cosy but spacious. It’s no surprise to see these colours being a choice for Entryways because they are inviting and make you feel welcome.
COVETED MAGAZINE PAGE 49 INSPIRATION
NEW MINIMALISM New Minimalism is about clear spaces with statement design pieces to create unique interiors. Giving attention to the essential forms of elements is really important since they are the key pieces. Products should be detail-oriented, perfect and high quality. Items should have a touch of luxury with a focus on being special like their handmade process and the use of purer materials. Refined and colder colours are a way to help complement this trend; stone, metals and brass being the most favourite elements. It’s the “less is more” approach that makes it perfect, focusing on what is really important.
ORGANIC MODERNISM An upcoming trend for interior design season 2021-2022 is using more natural and sustainable materials. We see an increasing need to bring nature to our indoors that has been developing, as well as a wellness mood. Choosing conscious and sustainable elements such as wood, stone, bamboo and so many other organic materials will give your design a natural feeling. Using organic materials gives us the ability to reconnect and strengthen the human-nature connection we all need in order to increase our wellness. The outdoor pollution levels are on the rise, stress is an emerging disease and we see how the earth and our forests are also suffering along with us. Embracing the use of more organic materials will improve our overall well being since it has been proved to reduce mental fatigue, improve our attention and focus also while helping us protect the planet earth.
RETRO COMEBACK The bold expression of the ’70s and ’90s is brought back as an interior design decor trend for 2022. Retro colours are a reflection and a sign of the times and so this year we will see mature yet hot and bold colours choices. On the colder spectrum side, we go from emerald green to dark blue hues, and on the warmer side of things, we have burnt orange and mustard yellow hues. Hot, bold and earthy colours are the choices for designers in 2022. These trends can also be seen in other details like the use of patterns in wall decor. We will witness a Memphis style design comeback, with the use of vibrant, asymmetrical and geometric, rounded shaped furniture.
THE REVIVAL OF THE AGES A trend seen more and more applied in many interior design projects, Bridgerton classic styles and the use of decor sculptures of ancient Greek figures is also a trending home accessory for next season. This trend is opulent and sophisticated, making for a sultry visual rich room. Along with the rising desire for vintage furniture, this trend is the perfect aesthetic to reimagining those era’s extravagances. Interior design from this era includes decor that creates individuality and brings your personality and glamour into your home

EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW WITH Kokaistudios With our original Italian background, the culture of craftsmanship is deeply bounded with our design practice. We have been committed for a long time to promote and reinvent the use of traditional techniques into a contemporary use and we will continue to explore the incredible possibilities that the tradition and the art of doing things well gave us. Kokaistudios consists of a company first created by Italian architects Filippo Gabbiani and Andrea Destefanis in 2000, which would later evolve with the creation of a Shanghai office in 2002. This is the perfect example of a truly multicultural firm that has managed to establish a global presence with a series of projects in Asia, the Middle East, Europe, and North America. Located on one of Shanghai’s most beautiful historical streets, in a 19th-century building that overlooks an urban oasis of traditional Chinese gardens, their office stands as a physical testament to one of Kokaistudios’ core beliefs and areas of practice. Their mission is to create spaces and experiences that make the life of people better. Every project they do from private to public, from interiors to architecture, is always focused on creating empathy between people and the environment. They feel extremely gratified observing how people interact and establish a strong empathy with their projects. Kokaistudios believes that it doesn’t exist an architect that has achieved everything they wanted in life! For them, the spirit of adventure and the creative lymph never take rest.

EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW WITH Marco Piva “Architecture, interior and product design merge in the asynchronous process to reach a unitary work, that assures continuity and fluidity of language in both stylistic and functional terms. I feel like a “director of an orchestra “, where music “ the project “ is conceived creatively. That’s what I love most of my job.” Marco Piva Marco Piva is currently one of the world’s top references regarding Italian design and architecture. Known for having an exciting, fluid and functional language transpire through his architectural creations, product design and interior design, his studio is a good example of a project that values differentiation and innovation in many areas of design. Piva is a top reference regarding Italian architecture, interior design and product conceptions. He was a part of the establishment of Studiodada Associates (known for its impact as one of the most representative companies of the period of Radical Design) having thereafter moved on to open his own interior design studio during the 80s. From this time period to today, Marco Piva’s work has had an impact worldwide, proving once again that the Italian touch, when done right, is always special for an interior design project. More than an architect or an interior designer, Marco Piva is an innovator who describes himself as being very much in love with what he does. He has a typically Italian approach to everything he touches, by giving his all in directing the many projects he has. Be it the project or the conception of the furniture and complements for many a-listers in this industry, Studio Marco Piva manages to play and fuse a series of elements in a successful Italian take. Marco Piva is known for having a careful approach to his projects, by studying and creating innovative design solutions best described as having unique compositional sobriety and stylistic freedom to them. Of course, he always has the care to adapt to the culture of the location of the project in order to create a relationship of respect with the client. We are talking of locations such as China, United States, India, Montecarlo, United Arab Emirates, Algeria and Albania. Maybe not so much in terms of style but in the Latin passion that Ana has in the projects and the Belgian methodology/ structure that Christophe is recognized for. Together, they create unique design ideas as we have never seen before, like the new collection for Essential Home. The Masquespacio young designers have been awarded the ‘Massimo Dutti New Values award by Architectural Digest Spain and the “Wave of the Future” award by Hospitality Design USA, next to a continued international recognition by media specialized in the design, fashion, and lifestyle trends. They have worked on projects in several countries like Norway, the USA, Germany, France and Spain. In 2020, Ana Hernández and Christophe Penasse were named ‘Young Talent of The Year’ by Elle Decoration International Magazine, while in 2019 they have been awarded ‘Interior Designers of The Year’ by the Spanish edition of The New York Times’ T Magazine. Masquespacio is an award creative studio recognized for its unique signature style that celebrates the most colourful side of design. innovative design with singular forms and mixing different techniques that are highlighted amongst the many brands with an approach to Nordic Design.” The founders of Masquespacio have been following Essential Home’s culture and collection over the past few years so creating this new collection was an exciting new challenge that would allow them to explore the brand’s emotional factor traduced in furniture collections full of surprising details. “For us, it is important that we feel connected with the brand that wants us to develop some items for them and this was the case with Essential Home”. Due to the world’s pandemic situation, this incredible partnership between Essential Home and young designers was the first collaboration created exclusively in the virtual world, because the two teams only met each other through the popular virtual meetings. Although it is always more difficult to create a connection through the new reality that we live in, Christophe reinforces that they “directly created a great connection with the Essential Home team. I think it was clear from the beginning that both teams as a partner wanted to do the same: create unique collections to surprise their customers.” From chairs and tables to barstools and even some lighting features, Ana and Christophe developed a wide range of mid-century modern products that are divided in 2/3 main sets of products, each one with a different aesthetic. These creative sets are inspired by different actors and actresses from the past and the present and connect or just can stand out separately. From the romantic movie” An Affair to Remember”, to the burlesque world from Zsa Zsa Gabor to Charlie’s Angels, and come together as one unique harmony (collection) called “Hollywood Glamour”. Essential Home’s new furniture collection by Masquespacio is full of emotions, organic forms, and contrast of materials in the typical style of their design style, as well as a strong touch of colour and a new type of textures. “We want them to enjoy a moment of joy full of emotions when they use our designs in their environment no matter if the products are used for a restaurant, hotel, or just your home. Let’s make the customer smile for a moment and be surprised by some pieces full of surprising and exciting details”, reinforced Ana and Christophe. Most design lovers would say that the “Hollywood Glamour” collection by Masquespacio would be more fitted for the commercial and hospitality industries, and have a hard time placing these beautiful products in a trendy residential design that screams a timeless and colourful concept. But Ana and Christophe believe that “it’s especially important to understand that you can make combinations for your projects. We have proposed the collection with a type of material, textures, and colours, but by combining it by yourself you can easily adapt the products to your projects.” All in all, we can expect an emotional, explosive, and joyful vision for Essential Home’s brandnew series of products that are going to be presented for the first time this Spring season. Cross the limits of your imagination and allow you to live in the Golden era through a unique and modern design vision.
EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW WITH Piero Lissoni Piero Lissoni has designed products & exhibition stands for many prestigious companies including Alessi, Audi, B&B Italia, Knoll International, and others. His architecture and design work is recognized worldwide and has earned him a series of international awards. Lissoni is a very versatile professional, with his portfolio stretching across architecture, furniture, interiors and even graphic design. According to the designer, “it’s a tradition in Milan to be versatile”. This is also a result of his education at the Politecnico di Milano, where he was taught to take on everything. The designer has a very simplistic approach to his career, living day by day. Always eager for the discovery of something new, Lissoni doesn’t disclose any new expectations for the future. “I never expect to do something. I’m very lucky but I also work a lot. You need to be a worker, that’s the secret. And you need a bit of luck”, he says. During his creative process, the designer prefers to be completely inside of it, meaning it is a long discussion with a team of workers that sometimes takes years to complete.
Regarding his collaboration with Knoll, they have been working together for over 15 years, so it has become some kind of “love affair”, as the designer described it. Lissoni has been in love with the company since the beginning, so it has remained a positive and thriving relationship. “For me, it is impossible to do anything if I don’t like people. I need people, I don’t need a name or a brand. It’s all about the people.” When it comes to the future of craftsmanship, the designer states that it will be a combination of incredible craftsmen and amazing technology, considering that’s the secret of the Italian life of design. Lissoni thinks that the fundamental thing for the designers of tomorrow is the respect of traditions and their cultures, adding that they must know their history in order to improve it. “You need to offer a long life to your products because that’s the best way of saving resources. We need to be more responsible, purer and cleaner.”

“The apartment has an open space concept that combines all the rooms through one unique style, yet the functional needs and the high-tech amenities separate each area.”
The one-bedroom luxury apartment was fully designed by the teaming collaboration with the architect and owner of the apartment. “The master bedroom, the tailored closet and the bespoke kitchen were the main challenges in this exclusive interior design project. The fully functional office was also one of the architect’s imperative requests.”

combine classic and contemporary, in an artistic symbiosis”.
DINING AREA Every piece is unique, exclusive coexisting as a masterpiece both individually and together. The different finishes are one of the features that contribute to the coherence of this interior design project, with statement pieces and timeless hues. In the dining room, the designers mixed neutral tones, with black and dark brown wood surfaces contrasting with the exquisiteness of gold brass. “But what truly elevates this ambience are the pieces that make this project a living art-gallery” explains the team, comprehensive furniture that could easily be considered an iconic collectable design piece “such as the imposing Empire Dining Table” taking centre stage with the Glance mirror and the Nº11 Chair complementing this beautiful and perfectly designed area.
MASTER SUITE The Designer’s Team referred that “The Master Bedroom was mainly inspired by the art pieces that the client brings from all the corners of the world, like the vintage black mirror and the rug”, but the centre stage it’s the king-size bed. The bed is framed with the handmade Lapiaz Headboard, from Boca do Lobo 2020 Collection. This imposing design piece is inspired by the french word for ‘stone’ that when frizzed, cracks into an unexpected stunning interior revealing all the inside details.
THE OFFICE The reflection of personal style, passions, and aspirations of the private client is the motto for this working space. Leading into the creative room, the hallway maintains the same art gallery-like aesthetic as the entrance of the house “yet breaking the informality of it with the stunning and imposing Millionaire luxury safes with the strong and formal design”, adds Boca do Lobo Design Studio. The Hera Suspension Lamp illuminates the entry of this room, and the marble floor reflects the brightness needed to balance this business yet inspiring environment.

INSIDE A MULTI-MILLION DOLLAR VILLA IN MOSCOW Covet House We had the opportunity to interview the rising star designer, Francisca Ferreira, currently the head designer for the Covet House Studio. The artist has recently embraced a very ambitious and massive project for an 8.5$ Million Modern Classic Villa in St. Petersburg, and we wanted to know more not only about this project, but also a peek inside the curtains on the life of the young designer as well. “It all starts with the entryway, A play on marbles, the high ceiling and reflective surfaces provide a wider feel to the house, next we have the heart of the house, the living room, my personal favourite. THE PERFECT BLEND BETWEEN ERGONOMY AND HIGH-END DESIGN Covet House

Now in a completely different style, this 295 m2, 8 room penthouse in Monaco focuses on functionality and contemporary modern design in neutral tones to create an effortlessly chic look. “The goal was to provide a home that transpired warmth and luxury by combining a neutral aesthetic with modern design furniture”, said Covet House Studio With 8 rooms to explore, this marvellous project has its own signature and language, with a very clear message, without being too loud or overpowering, every single detail is carefully put together to provide an ultimate modern home for a contemporary lifestyle.

a journey of effortless chic design. Connecting all the rooms, it serves as the main artery for the house with a privileged view over all the open space areas. The goal was to provide an entryway that transpired warmth and luxury by combining a neutral aesthetic with modern design furniture and lighting pieces. Setting the tone for the rest of the penthouse.
LIVING ROOM An open space area filled with warm and soothing upholstery and tones. The living room was carefully put together with one clear goal: comfort. Spacing and the overall setting of the furniture and decoration were design to provide a calm aesthetic, without any of the pieces overpowering each other, mastering the perfect balance between design and functionality. A subtle neutral palette to provide the most nurturing ambience. Using mostly pieces from Caffe Latte, one of the brands from Covet House, as the custom-made Aroma Console, and the light Emperor Marble Robusta centre table to give a pop to the aesthetic. The Fitzgerald modular sofa from Essential Home and complement the simplicity of the Coltrane suspension from Delightfull, while the Essex Armchair from Brabbu is the ultimate comfort experience.
DINING ROOM What better place to enjoy a fine dinner with friends and family than a beautiful and inspiring dining room? This room was design to provide exactly that: a beautifully decorated and furnished area, with a practical and cosy approach. Again, the neutral tones are in sync with the other open areas, both in design and taste. Organic shapes dominate this division, with the fluidity of the Boma sideboard by Caffe Latte or the Moka chairs. Contrasting perfectly against the straight lines from the Beyond Dining table from Luxxo custom made for this project. The Horus suspension from Brabbu creates a warm cosy lighting environment.

KITCHEN Sharing the same area with the dining room, a fully equipped kitchen with built-in appliances, and a design that seamlessly becomes one with the other rooms. The use of the marbles provides a cleanness to the eye and exudes an elegant and modern appeal, suiting for a family or friends get together, especially with the marble countertop, the perfect place to start your dinner party. The softness of the counter stool from the Moka family (same as the dining chairs) by Caffe Latte, stands out completely from the architecture of the hardness of the marbles, while the Etta Pendant from Delightfull delights the ambience with a bronze appeal. A true feast for the eyes.

An Architect-Duo’s residence sprawling over 4,200 sq ft on the fringes of Mumbai; replete with an interplay of colour, shifting silhouettes and an unapologetically expressive scheme of design. When lead Designers and homeowners Saloni and Hiren Ganatra focussed their design prowess together on bringing their creative vision to life, the celebration of their polar opposite, yet complementary design personas assumed the spotlight! The stances in this project were switched, the designers who are acclimatized to looking into every micron of detail for their clients, became the key-end users in this endeavour. Casa Neue is emblematic of the ‘ingenious’ - a home pieced together with its every weave by the design partners with utmost affection and prowess. This abode was conceptualised from the get-go as a blank canvas that encaptures every facet of design the Architects and homeowners, in this case, would resonate with. This passion project was spearheaded under Maison Colab, a segment under ColabCompany that laid the design foundation for this luxury home over a course of 1 year and 4 months. The ideology didn’t focus on clinically aesthetic spaces, the emphasis
instead was on creating a functional oasis that stimulated the visual and physical senses. The process is similar to penning down a saga of life in design, wherein each space is a lyrical counterpart in the formation of a larger-than-life picture. For Saloni and Hiren, inspiration can be sought in a ubiquitous manner - interior design, architectural constructs, fashion, furniture design, lifestyle and travels across the globe; all it takes is receptiveness. The entire process was a trance state of ‘Ikigai’ for the lead designers - a feeling of finding satiation in being occupied and working on their quintessential ‘home’. What inspired the designers in an ardent manner was taking inspiration from creations completely out of the realms of their craft, which brought a fresh perspective to the table - reiterating the fact that design lies at the node of curiosity and the will to explore uncharted territories. Casa Neue is a physical manifestation of the shared aspirations of the Architects, creating a stage for visual and tangible spatial experiences to come to life. As creators, one is often submitted to the utilities of the end-user, but in order to envisage something anew one has to take chances conviction, an uninhibited imagination and a focused vision are the essences of this abode. LOS ANGELES RESIDENCIAL Virtuoso Interior Design Located in the heart of the Los Angeles Golden mile on Wilshire Blvd., this 3000 sq. feet bachelorette pad is designed to fit the client’s active lifestyle, and has been transformed to amuse guests, as well as comfort for everyday living. When you arrive at the unit, you are welcomed by the light-up wood portal and gorgeous double clear doors. In this entry area, raindrops glass pendant lighting is placed in front of a textured stone wall to represent a waterfall, and I incorporated hidden shoe cabinets with a large backlight pivot mirror panel to create a spacious effect. Kitchen, Dining and Living areas are designed to function as one harmonious space to have a great flow of the space and to maximize the space usage for entertaining. The impeccable custom show kitchen is surrounded by a large wine cellar and a 12-foot-long island. It has a beautiful marble stone slab top and is facing dining and living areas so the owner can cook and flawlessly interact with guests. Full-height tinted glass front cabinets with LED lighting on side panels hold special liquor bottles and barware for social events. With the client’s fun-loving nature and passion for art, I came up with the idea of bringing in art with a twist. In this residence, Arts were incorporated into walls, vanities, millwork design and furniture pieces. For instance, a Hand-painted dining table by Fornasetti, and jewellery like metal pendant light is deliciously illuminating this art piece table. THE MOST COVETED INTERIOR DESIGN BOOKS If you’re a design lover, chances are your shelves always have room for another book. Lucky for us, each season brings a fresh set of inspirational tomes from designers, stylists, and historians, giving us eye candy—and design advice—aplenty. Read on for the ones we’re buying now. Many seem to prefer interior design books as a form of artwork – if the cover matches the décor, it goes on the coffee table to collect dust. Here, we highlight some of the best interior design books that go beyond the surface-level Pinterest tutorials and get down to the principles of how to design the spaces in your home.
HOME STORIES, DESIGN IDEAS FOR MAKING A HOUSE A HOME BY KIM LEGGETT LEARN HOW TO CREATE ROOMS FILLED WITH WARMTH, MEANING, AND YOUR OWN UNIQUE STORY OF HOME Kim Leggett’s first book, City Farmhouse Style, was a big hit. Now Kim is back with the welcoming interiors her fans crave and a no-rules approach that is all about using what you love to create rooms that tell your personal story. Everyone has a story worth telling, and every room can become part of that story—whether you decorate it with heirlooms, flea market finds, simple mementoes, or a mix. In-Home Stories, Leggett shows readers how to use all these treasures to design very special rooms filled with interest and meaning. She begins by asking readers what it is that attracts them to a certain piece: “Thinking hard about what really speaks to you and then using it as the basis for design, is the secret behind all of the best, most interesting rooms.” Each chapter presents fascinating spaces and the stories behind the accessories, furnishings, and mementoes that fill them. There are plenty of projects, too, plus practical design guidance and design inspiration for refreshing decor as the seasons change.

LIVE BEAUTIFUL BY ATHENA CALDERONE FROM CELEBRATED DESIGN EXPERT AND INTERIOR DESIGNER ATHENA CALDERONE, A LOOK INTO HOW CREATIVES DECORATE THEIR SPACES For 14 months, Athena Calderone ping-ponged between coasts East and West, and further off to Copenhagen and Lyon, with photographer Nicole Franzen in tow to shoot a collection of tastemaking homes for her latest book, Live Beautiful. By the end of it, she was left with design-magazine-cover-worthy interior photography, but also, a selection of images of her standing in, of all places, a bathroom shower with the various homeowners. Beautiful design isn’t just pleasant to look at; it improves the quality of our lives. In Live Beautiful, the highly anticipated design book by Athena Calderone, the EyeSwoon creator taps into her international network of interior decorators, fashion designers, and tastemakers to reveal how carefully crafted interiors come together. She also opens the doors to two of her own residences. With each homeowner, Calderone explores the initial spark of inspiration that incited their design journey. She then breaks down the details of the rooms—like layered textures and patterns, collected pieces, and customized vignettes—and offers helpful tips on how to bring these elevated elements into your own space. Filled with gorgeous photography by Nicole Franzen, Live Beautiful is both a showpiece of exquisite design and a guide to creating a home that’s thoughtfully put together. Calderone is part of the rare breed of influencer (her Instagram account @EyeSwoon has garnered over 270,000 followers, with even more visits to her website of the same name) whose appeal transcends the blogger-sphere. In 2017, she was able to reverse engineer her brand from digital to print with her first publication, a book of recipes named Cook Beautiful, which was by every measure a success. “I wanted something that had this level of permanence to it,” she says.

TOP LUXURY HOTELS TO DISCOVER This is our editors’ annual rhapsody on their forever-favourite hotels from around the globe. In this year’s incarnation, we went beyond places to stay, including a range of experiences we consider truly exceptional—cruises, flights, restaurants, bars, destinations—along with the deeply personal reasons we love them. It’s been buzzed about for years, and now the highly anticipated hotel project is becoming a reality. Back in 2015, the management of the Chateau de Versailles called for bids for transforming three buildings just outside the palace gates. Dating from the 1680s, these buildings—the Hôtel du Grand Contrôle, the Petit Contrôle and the Pavillon—have impressive views over the Orangerie. Ultimately, Airelles and Ducasse Paris were awarded the contract to develop a luxury hotel on the property. And, now, the opening of Airelles Château de Versailles, Le Grand Contrôle has been announced for spring 2020. Over the last four years, interior architect Christophe Tollemer has pored over the Chateau de Versailles’s archives to ensure the property’s meticulous restoration. His team has handpicked original antiques and art, inspired by the nearby Petit Trianon Palace. Expert French artisans were commissioned to replicate the parquet and wood panelling, while Maison Pierre Frey and Royal Manufacture of Aubusson created bespoke upholstery and fabrics. This 18th-century splendour will be on full display in The Grand Salon on the first floor. There will be just 14 rooms and suites, with the larger suites situated on the lower floors according to tradition. Sprawling over 1,300 square feet, the Signature Suite will come with a four-poster bed, living area and bathroom overlooking the Orangerie. All rooms will showcase

As the iconic ‘Jewel of Manhattan’, The Chatwal in New York has offered the quintessential urban luxury boutique hotel experience since 2010. Now for the first time, esteemed hotelier Mr Sant Singh Chatwal is introducing a luxury retreat in the country, a private realm in harmony with nature known as The Chatwal Lodge in Bethel, NY. In reverence to its pure, unspoiled setting on 60 acres along the wooded shores of the 1,000-acre Toronto Reservoir, the retreat has been designed to celebrate life itself. The promise is luxury “rustic” accommodations for a handful of well-heeled guests, absolute privacy, and the chance to relax with fly fishing, boating, kayaking, hiking, horseback riding, mountain biking, golfing, lawn croquet, and recreational badminton. Personal pampering and growth activities include Ayurvedic wellness treatments, yoga, meditation, private wine tastings, cooking classes, and music lessons. In short, this is a far cry from the Catskills depicted in The Marvelous Mrs Maisel. The project is from hotelier Sant Singh Chatwal, the founder and chairman of Dream Hotel Group, whose flagship property is The Chatwal, New York in Manhattan, which was built in 1905 by Stanford White and restored and renewed by architect Thierry Despont in 2010. The Chatwal Lodge is located within 30 acres of environmentallyprotected land within The Chapin Estate, a 2,500-acre gated residential community. At its heart is the 1,000-acre Toronto Reservoir Lake. There will be just 10 suites, some with private patios overlooking the Toronto Reservoir Lake, featuring vaulted ceilings, arched windows, reclaimed-wood walls, log-treated stairs, hand-carved headboards, and faux fur and wool upholstery. Some accommodations will additionally have larger lakeside decks, outdoor showers, deep soaking tubs, kitchens, dining and living areas suitable for family gatherings. The amenities include 24-hour valet service, concierge and butler service, as well as 24-hour insuite dining. One of the speciality suites is a 1,000-square-foot treehouse raised 25 above the ground, with a fireplace, and an outdoor deck. Another is also an 850 square foot glamping-style tent with a king bed, an ensuite bath, and wrap-around verandas. The main lodge building is the social heart of the lodge and will feature a farm-to-table restaurant, a lobby lounge, a wine cellar, a bar, and a private dining room. Guests can take breakfast on the terrace or opt for alfresco dining. The chef, who has yet to be named, will focus on organic, locally-sourced fare. Fresh herbs and homegrown vegetables will come from the kitchen gardens on the premises. Afternoon tea, cocktails, and all-day dining can be enjoyed beside the massive fireplace or on the outdoor terrace with heaters to take in the lake view all year round. There will also be a library, a lakeside pavilion, and rooms to accommodate meetings and weddings. The architecture and design is by Steve Dubrovsky, who specializes in 19th-century Adirondack style residential buildings. His private homes can be found throughout The Chapin Estate and in an earlier life, he was a four-time circuit champion of the Professional Rodeo Cowboy Association. The debut of The Chatwal Lodge will be followed by resort openings in San Miguel de Allende and Valle de Guadalupe in Mexico. Rates at The Chatwal Lodge will start at $1,200 per night.

RESTAURANTS WE COVET
THE WORLD’S FINEST LUXURY RESTAURANTS Fine dining restaurants are worldwide recognized for their excellence in food, service, and ambience. The menus feature dishes that are filled with creativity and artistry of the chef, which translates into the art that is very visible on the plate. The service of these spaces is attentive but not intrusive and the incredible wine lists complement the menu in perfect harmony. Here are the restaurants we’re still dreaming about.
ATOMIX New York, USA A card is set down in front of you before each new course arrives at Atomix, the tasting-menu restaurant in Murray Hill run by Junghyun Park and his wife, Jeungeun. Each is printed with a boldface transliteration of a Korean word under an abstract design of geometric shapes and lines. They look like flashcards from a school run by progressive graphic designers. One of the city’s most acclaimed and extravagant openings of 2018 has become even more expensive. Atomix, Ellia Park and Junghyun Park’s chef’s counter spot that earned three Eater stars, three NYT stars, a Michelin star, and a best new restaurant nod, has officially joined the two-hundred-dollar club. The Chef’s Counter is an intimate and personable experience featuring a U-shaped counter and an up-close look at their open kitchen. Ato, stemming from the ancient Korean word for ‘gift,’ is the innovative cuisine that husband and wife team - Chef Junghyun and manager Ellia Park, hope to deliver to the world using New York City as their stage.

Atomix, a follow-up to their well-loved firstborn Atoboy, is a place where guests can really dive deep into Chef Park’s cuisine through a tasting menu that is inspired by Korean traditions and technique. Dinner here is as close as any meal in recent memory has come to be a poem. Each dish at Manhattan’s Atomix pleases the senses and comes with a menu card articulating its inspiration and how it’s rooted in Korean culinary history.
BORAGÓ Santiago, Chile Zero-kilometre sourcing and indigenous ingredients set apart this Chilean showstopper. Considered the best restaurant in Chile and the 4th best in Latin America by The 50’s Best, Boragó is at least peculiar. In front of the kitchen is chef Rodolfo Guzmán, dedicated to the use of endemic products from Chile, his authorial and avant-garde cuisine can be considered unique. Boragó plates the full spectrum of Chile’s broad diversity, with Chef Rodolfo Guzmán hunting ingredients from the northern Atacama desert to deepest Patagonia in the south to unearth forgotten or often-ignored produce. He works directly with 200 foraging communities and small producers to bring ultra-seasonal ingredients to the table via his Endémica menu; his cooks gather from the nearby coastline and mountains most days and the menu is formed depending on what arrives at his door on the day. The intention of the place is to reflect what the land offers, bring the best products from unusual parts of the planet, and make your dishes something priceless. In the lounge and kitchen, the chef, maitre d ‘, waiters and cooks seem to dance a ballet choreographed to exhaustion. Everything seems to work perfectly! Customers not

only see how the kitchen works but interact with the cooks who act as waiters, taking the dishes to the table to explain them. The highly artistic Roasted Flowers à la Van Gogh, which includes false morels cooked in a seaweed bladder, turns flora and algae on their head. The adorable Black Sheep of the Family cake adheres to Boragó’s seasonal philosophy, and is made with plums, sheep’s milk and arrayán, a wild fruit available just one month of the year. In line with zero-kilometre cooking, many vegetables are grown in Boragó’s own orchard, located just 30 minutes from the restaurant and cooks are encouraged to get involved from planting to harvest. Guzmán also clinched Latin America’s 50 Best Restaurants’ first Sustainable Restaurant Award in 2018. This new recognition of Boragó is the result of several years of work, tracking and
research on endemic products from all over Chile.
That has it as a favourite place for chefs and foreigners visiting the country, including Joan Roca, the Catalan chef considered the best in the world, who usually visits it when he comes to Chile.
ROTE WAND CHEF’S TABLE Schulhaus, Lech, Áustria Culinary specialities are extraordinaire in the Rote Wand Schualhus. SEM PORTA Setúbal, Portugal CovetED Magazine had the pleasure of experiencing the luxury world and flavours of the “Sem Porta” Restaurant, one of the many restaurants of Sublime Comporta, a luxury retreat in Comporta, Setúbal, Portugal. Sem Porta is a traditional restaurant and focuses on the Alentejo roots and the recipes passed down from generation to generation. Chef uses regional products, working with local fisherman and wineries, giving precedence to fresh, organic produce whenever possible. From the organic garden, in front of the restaurant, come some of the ingredients that make up the menu. From Portugal and Alentejo, references are recovered and reinvented. Surrounded by pine and cork trees and a luxurious green framing, the Sem Porta Restaurant in Muda is an integral part of Sublime Hotel Comporta. Sem Porta, translated as ‘no door’, reflects its willingness to welcome people into this stunning environment. Chef Hélio Gonçalves is in charge of the kitchen. His creations are inspired by nature, the excellence of local produce and the organic herbs from restaurants own organic garden. Organic and sustainable, whenever is feasible, vegetables, herbs,

rice, meat and fish, are turned into real treats to the palate. The catch of the day comes directly from local fisherman to Sem Porta. In Sem Porta Comporta you can taste wines from every region of Portugal, and also Sublime organizes wine tasting events and has its own brand in association with a local producer. The wines served as a lever, with the hiring of a director for the area, the opening of a store, the organization of workshops and tastings, and the connection to a local producer, in the Brejinho da Costa case, for the specific production of wines. The wine list introducing itself to guests and, increasingly, to visitors, very complete and noted, both in quantity and quality, with some (very) good surprises. The architecture finds its inspiration in the old rice storing facilities of the area. In keeping with the essence of Comporta, the decor is sophisticated yet relaxed. Both the landscape and nature that surround inspire the creations of this restaurant. At Sem Porta, the stars are the local products and producers. There’s a respect for the origins and for time, which in the Alentejo has a different rhythm. Hélio Gonçalves is the current chef of the Sem Porta restaurant, and we had had the pleasure of interviewing him. The Chef joined

We take a seat in full view of it so that we can witness Chef Hélio and his team do their thing as the night unfurls. As we have a look at the dishes on offer, we’re brought corn and brown bread served with smoky chorizo butter and Cartuxa Winery olive oil. The menu at Sem Porta changes seasonally and promotes local ingredients and the reimagined flavours of Alentejo. All the meals you eat and the menu itself “has a touch” of the experience acquired in Asia. “I always try to respect the origins of the house and the letter”, always honouring Portugal, the head said. With a target audience mostly foreign, the menu is constantly adapting. Hints of fruit, oriental sauces are some of the differences that you can find in the root cuisine practised by the chef in the Alentejo restaurant. In November they will create a new menu, with Alentejo Pork and other Portuguese well-known meat dishes, in order to capture the essence of what can be sought by the Portuguese public, who is already “used to the national meal”. They will include more “earth to earth” dishes that please everyone. Terra a Terra is the new surprise that the hotel is preparing, dogfish soup and other classics already known by visitors to the restaurant. They will also include a tasting menu. In order to keep with its spirit of continuously innovating, Sublime Comporta decided to open its own beach restaurant. Hélio is also the one in charge of the cuisine of this new experience of the group. Sem Porta is one of the best restaurants in Comporta and proof that Comporta is much more than the wonderful beaches. It is also an unmissable experience for gastronomy lovers. If you’re ever around Comporta and looking for a truly heartfelt, highdining experience, make your way to Sublime’s Sem Porta.
