SUSTAINABILITY: ANTONIOLUPI EMPLOYS RESIN AND CORK FOR SUSTAINABLE PEDESTAL SINK A new pedestal sink by Antoniolupi focuses on more than eye-catching aesthetics, which, by the way, it has in spades. Bolgheri, conceived by Gumdesign’s Laura Fiaschi and Gabriele Pardi, begins with a base in cork, the lightweight material that’s harvested from cork oaks without harming the living tree, reconstituted, and bound with natural resin. It’s topped by a basin in Cristalmood, Antoniolupi’s proprietary translucent coloured resin that’s fully recyclable. The result is a sleek and sustainable fixture boasting texture and contrast—soft and matte, hard and shiny. The basin’s colour options are numerous, while the base comes in honeytoned Natural or darker brown Toasted.
BERNHARDT DESIGN AND ITALIAN FURNISHING BRAND PLANK ANNOUNCE LONG-TERM PARTNERSHIP Finding the perfect business partner is no easy task, and for Jerry Helling, president of Bernhardt Design, the search ended with Michael Plank, CEO of Italian furnishing manufacturer Plank. Earlier this month, the two brands announced the launch of their long-term partnership, Bernhardt Design + Plank, which makes Plank’s products and outdoor furnishings easily accessible in the North American market through a distribution agreement with Bernhardt Design.
CRISTINA CELESTINO RECALLS LOMBARDY LANDMARKS FOR CLÉ TILE WALL COVERING Nestled in Italy’s Lombardy region, Gonzaga is a town rife with both Renaissance history and Cotto, the fine terra-cotta clay that forms on the floodplain of the River Po. Masters of the medium make up the town’s 100-yearold Fornace Brioni, where secrets of the trade have been passed down for generations. Though historic, the family-run company continues to evolve, ergo in 2017 leaders Alessio and Alberto Brioni hired lauded Italian designer Cristina Celestino to oversee creative direction. Their collaboration now yields Giulio Romano, a wall covering for Clé Tile. The handcrafted tiles come in two shapes: a long, fluted column and a coordinating end cap, both 8 inches wide. Combined, their form echoes those pillars and mouldings found in the region’s landmarks, from the Church of Santa Maria Assunta in Sabbioneta to the Ducal Palace of Mantua.

KNOLL PRESENTS THE NEW COLLECTIONS FOR 2020 BY PIERO LISSONI The long-term collaboration between Piero Lissoni and Knoll has evolved over time in a range of various projects poised halfway between the home and the office: sofas, chairs, armchairs, bookcases and tables like Avio, Matrioska, Red Baron, Grasshopper, KN and Gould. The holistic, sartorial approach of the Milan-based architect, driven by exceptional aesthetic sensibilities, has had a major impact on the Knoll style, reinforcing the dialogue between tradition and a contemporary spirit, in keeping with the historical legacy of the company.
MATIC – DESIGNED BY PIERO LISSONI: Matic offers new functional and aesthetic possibilities. Modular or linear, the collection stands out for its ample seats of different depths, covered in leather or fabric. It is composed of modules, including chaise longues and terminal peninsula units, to provide seats upholstered with evenly-sized squares, or detailed with a T-shaped seam, combined with a special curved back featuring a mechanism that can be turned to adjust comfort for relaxing, reading or conversation.

JUMBO’S CHICLY CARTOONISH CREATURE COMFORTS IS A TESTAMENT TO THE DIGITAL SPHERE “Our physical worlds have gotten smaller, but the digital one has ballooned.” So states Jumbo founders Justin Donnelly and Monling Lee. Not only is their chicly cartoonish Creature Comforts a testament to the digital universe but it was also launched at Sight Unseen’s Offsite Online, the annual furniture show that this year, for the first time, was presented virtually. The fivepiece collection presents a cast of characters: Hero, a curvy armchair in emerald-green spun aluminum; Sport, a neon-yellow neoprene sofa inspired by tennis balls; Hung, a mirror with a polished-aluminum surface that drapes against the wall à la toilet paper (nodding to the TPsparse early days of COVID-19); and the Mop pendant fixture, replete with a mane of silicone tubes befitting its name

STUDIOPEPE’S NEW COLLECTION IS A MID-CENTURY LOVERS DREAM COME TRUE! MEET “HAPPY FEW”! Studiopepe, one of the biggest interior design studios in the world, launched their newest work with incredible pieces with a vintage touch, produced by Essential Home, one of the biggest mid-century brands in the world. Ready to discover more? We present you “Happy Few“, a midcentury modern furniture collection you will fall in love with if you’re a design lover like us! Studiopepe’s mid-century design ideas truly redefine the furniture design world as we know it, thanks to its unique ideas. The Italian designers share a deep passion with Italian architecture, design and high-craftsmanship culture, and during their creative journey to Portugal, Chiara and Arianna discovered something unique. They saw and found in Porto’s downtown area, with all of its iconic buildings, architecture landmarks, unique art and design galleries, such as Serralves, and exquisite high craftsmanship culture, a brand-new scene of inspiration that make them feel like home.
Inspired by the unique colours and magnificent art landmarks in both countries, Studiopepe decided to create a unique mid-century furniture collection that combined the best of both worlds. Challenging the limits of the furniture manufacture standards, this unique mid-century modern selection of products teaches you how to play with the geometrical concept of design in a comfortable way while keeping the luxury mid-century modern feel to it. Each piece is a statement on its own and was named after some of the most iconic literature personalities from the 40s to the 70s, such as F. Scott Fitzgerald, Ezra Pound, Zelda Fitzgerald and David Duncan. This is the perfect selection of products to elevate your home design from average to exquisite in no time.

2021
FALL WINTER COLOURS Every year we see a change in the way we design our spaces and new colour trends come forward. This year with harsh changes in habits we saw a shift in our priorities that made us stay more time at home. Since the on-going pandemic gives no signs of actually going away we feel the need to invest more in creating a beautiful environment for the place we still spend more time at, our home. These changes in society are reflected in the new colour trends for 2021.
Urging for some sense of warmth and brighter days, we can observe a lot of soft nudes but also happy brighter colours. 2021 colour themes will be searching for all things calm, relaxing, comfortable, sustainable and soulful, for sure contrasting with the situation we are living in the outside world. What makes us human is the urge to feel and live more and, with that in mind, brands started to create a new colour palette for 2021.

EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW WITH Kenzo Takada Kenzo Takada was quite versatile, founder of Kenzo, the designer pursued his dream throughout his whole life: from fashion to interior design, you name it. Dynamism was a big part of his personality, and the designer, whose name became synonymous of fashion was one of the living witnesses to the globalization of fashion. CovetED had the pleasure of interviewing Kenzo Takada in Paris in the launch of his new interior design collection, K3 and is here to present you some of the best moments of the designer.
I wanted to retire at the age of 60 so I left “Kenzo in 2000 to retire, to travel. But travel and vacations weren’t enough for me. I needed something exciting, an adventure. After I retired from Kenzo I did a lot of collaborations with several brands such as Roche Bobois and then I realized I wanted a new brand and that’s how I imagined K3. K3 stands for K as Kenzo and the 3 means Enzo. If you read it together, it is Kenzo. But 3 it is also the balance, harmony in the Japanese culture. It is a blend of what Kenzo really is today.
“
Kenzo was born in Japan and lives in Paris. After a long journey in his brand, the fashion designer retired in order to pursue his dream. In 1999, six years after selling his eponymous brand to the LVMH group, Kenzo Takada withdrew from the fashion world. Although he was not completely stopped, developing exclusive collaborations in the most varied areas, the Japanese designer confessed to us that he “missed” the work. «Twenty years ago I didn’t want to work anymore, I wanted to travel», explained the fashion designer, who presented his first exhibition at Galerie Vivienne in 1970, triggering the brand’s success. After a long time doing partnerships and collaborations with the best interior design, cosmetic and perfume brands, the designer ended up creating a concept interior design brand called K3. The high-end interior design brand was present at a Parisian home show and the new K3 boutique in the French capital.

EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW WITH Studiopepe “We noticed there are a lot of affinities with Italy here in Portugal, and that’s is very interesting, the passion for Wood’s Craftsmanship, the etching and other materials such as the glass, the ceramic and so on.” After seeing the potential beneath the master artisans’ skills, Chiara and Arianna found the right path to create a twist full design for the famous mid-century brands, Essential Home and DelightFULL” Being one of the leading interior design experts in Milan, Studiopepe has been impressing the world with their creative design ideas that blend the lines between the past and the present. In these projects there are surely modern and futuristic concepts, but with vintage and midcentury touch. Passionate about the multidisciplinary side of the design world, Arianna Lelli Mami and Chiara di Pinto founded this incredible design studio in 2006 and since then they have become Italy’s most famous designers. Beginning from solid interior design experience and the strong emotional value of their eclectic design research, Studiopepe has carried out styling projects and iconographic shoot concepts for major international magazines. From interior design projects to product design and creative consulting services for some of the best luxury design brands, the designers feature a unique signature style that captures the attention of any design lovers. For both of the Italian designers, the real beauty of designing any type of project relies on the feeling and unique experiences that these products will bring to the client, which for Arianna is the last step of the designing process. “We love designing products, but also imagining them inside an ambience, so we love all the things that contribute to enhance those products, and for me is something innate, that I feel since always”, enhanced Chiara di Pinto. Arianna and Chiara always have been fascinated with the visual aesthetic components, such as colour and shapes, since an early age, so they always knew what was going to be their future professional path. The Italian designers started to work together in the Politecnico di Milano, sharing the same vision, inspirations, ideas and strong motivation to express their creativity and artistic “poetry”. Chiara explains that this unique partnership “has never been something predetermined, being a creative process, it is based on creativity and curiosity, and obviously, there is certain synchronicity between us”. Some people considered them as one of the most famous design couples in Milan thanks to their synchronicity line of thoughts and ideas. “Our shared experience contributed to creating this synchronicity that is expressed through the dialectics. Being in discordance is also a creative process, which means exchanging views and different points of views bring to a different
result, but that result represents each step of the interesting path, done by exchanging perceptions and ideas, so it’s also a great discovery”, explained Arianna when questioned about their unique connection. Whether it is designing an interior design project or a unique product, the Studiopepe duo features the same planning process for every challenge that starts with exchanging views, from the creative aspect to the product, and so on. For them, the inspiration research for every project is something quite natural, thanks to their incredible travelling experiences and artistic vision. “We know each other since many years and we have a kind of shared “alphabet” of inspirations, that is very useful, because, when I have in my mind something that we have
experienced together, is helpful for both of us, and we can focus together

show them to the visitors, what is in-depth of each piece, as well as the photography and so on. Maybe it is 100% feminine characteristics, to keep it all together”. This vintage fascination isn’t a new thing in the design life of Arianna and Chiara. They always have been influenced by the 50s thanks to Milan’s exquisite architecture. Being a part of their history, the vintage inspirations are also a big part of their work and the base of their contemporary twist concept.
The first time that the Studiopepe’s
designers have demonstrated their affection for the mid-century style through their first “Manifesto” project, called Ed Visit, regarding an Intimate hospitality concept and private residences. “One of these we concluded 2 years ago, we tried to mix together Mid-century pieces, original or from Gallery, with modern pieces, because we loved the contrast, they got stronger each other”, said Chiara. Creating unique mid-century collections is one of the biggest challenges that Arianna and Chiara had to face since it is a peculiar design style with specific lines that can easily look to something that already existed. One of the things that they had to avoid during their creative process was to not create a scenography scenario, otherwise, the final result could be counter-productive. “We live in 2020, even though I appreciate those ages, we are here, and it is cool to get inspiration from those years, making a re-elaborated version with a contemporary touch, as the Great Gatsby’s house, or inspiration from theatre”, enhanced Chiara when asked about the most challenging thing about embracing the vintage design style. Besides Milan’s beautiful architectural patrimony, the Italian designers also found the best inspirational design ideas in details of Porto’s incredible design heritage, like the unique architectural projects or the fine craftsmanship techniques. After seeing the potential beneath the master artisans’ skills, Chiara and Arianna found the right path to create a twist full design for the famous mid-century brands, Essential Home and DelightFULL. “We noticed there are a lot of affinities with Italy here in Portugal, and that’s is very interesting, the passion for Wood’s Craftsmanship, the etching and other materials such as the glass, the ceramic and so on”, highlighted Arianna. We can say that this partnership between Studiopepe and Essential Home was the perfect opportunity to establish bridges between the two countries with a strong heritage history.
“Once you realize how
the materials can be used, the techniques, the processes, the care with which are produced, and all of the combinations you can make, of course for creative people it is like to be in a Luna-Park”, said Chiara di Pinto. A productive brainstorming gave wings to several ideas and possibilities the Italian designers believe that this task was the ultimate break to showcase their Made in Italy legacy and discover Portugal’s strong craftsmanship techniques, like metalworking, wood carving, porcelain, hand-painted tiles and jewellery manufactory. The ancient Portuguese crafts are a natural inspiration for the Studiopepe’s designers. Chiara fell in love with
the traditional Portuguese metalworking techniques because this is a craft that can give to the product several original forms. On the other hand, despite her fascination for the magnificent forms and sculptural value, Arianna enjoyed the etching technique, a classic manufacture craft that evokes the past through its history. “All of these elements stimulate us and we are curious to test it in the Design with a Contemporary Twist, and this is a positive challenge which motivates us a lot”, she added. After getting to know the two mid-century brands by visiting the backstage scenario, the Italian designers were really amazed by the quality of products as well as the attention to detail and the fact all of their pieces are handmade by the best Portuguese master artisans. These three factors show that the two brands feature a strong character in every step of the designing process. “It has been really interesting observing the employers at the factory, and their passion for Craftsmanship. We have been influenced by their passion because now we’ll put them to the test”, said Arianna. DelightFULL and Essential Home share the same design values from

COVETED MAGAZINE PAGE 51 EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW
EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW WITH Anne-Cécile Comar They say the apple never falls off far from the tree, and Anne-Cécile’s the living proof of it. Daughter of a designer and of a mathematician, Anne-Cécile fell in love with the purest symbioses of both: architecture. Twenty years ago, alongside Phillipe Croisier, she began the joyride that is Atelier du Pont’s work. The then tiny atelier who designed bathrooms became one of France’s most prominent architecture and interior design studios who are responsible for quite outstanding work. ‘’I am the daughter of a designer/architect and a mathematician. Between both of them, I chose architecture’’ Anne-Cécile felt that design and architecture was her calling. Anne-Cécile thinks that there’s a lot of distance between Interior Architecture and, let’s say, conventional architecture. As a marriage counsellor, Atelier du Pont works on reconciling a troublesome relationship on two branches that are very close to one another. For Anne-Cécile, there was no other path to be chosen. The architecture was truly her calling. Her work completely transcends the notions on the industry. She frees herself of any paradigms attached to architecture and design, thus allowing her to accomplish the remarkable works she used the world to. ‘’They complete themselves, architecture and interior architecture/ design. In France, both universes are wrongfully apart, and we work towards unifying both of them.’’ Anne-Cécile believes Atelier du Pont works the same way as their peers. What differences them from their esteemed counterparts is the scale of their works. Atelier du Pont’s thorough attention to every single detail and technicality, the materials used in the projects, their own ingenious way of working. The fact that Anne-Cécile and her team transports the materials used in exterior architecture onwards interiors makes the Atelier distance itself from the remaining honourable ones. ‘’What interests us is the reconciliation between these two universes. A global Design, per se.’’ Anne-Cécile describes Atelier du Pont’s concept as an intelligent one. A

European Space Agency, and a rural hotel in the spectacular Menorca Island, Spain. Space, a broader perspective and the ever-felt dream of exploring the deepest, darkest corners of the universe are the inevitable themes attached to the project. A future dreamed by humanity ever since 1959. As for the hotel in Menorca, contrary to the modern, futuristic approach of the ESA, sustainability, seascape and self-discovery are the mottos of the project. Self-sustainability was something that concerned Anne-Cécile and her team upon working on this project, and, as far as we can tell, they’re doing quite the job. ‘’I’ve got several projects I’d like to talk about, like the one I’m currently working with the ESA. (..) As for interior architecture, we’re currently working on a marvellous rural hotel in Menorca. A magnificent site resting by the sea.’’ The main challenges that Anne-Cécile faces in her line of duty are to be able to experiment with different things and make them work. Different materials, different ways of working. Matching these new ideas and to deliver incredible end results, that’s the challenge that drives Anne-Cécile and all the team at Atelier du Pont. Furthermore,
when it comes to retail design, a branch in which Atelier du Pont completely aces, the challenges are understanding the brand, the client and the brand’s customers. Who they are, what they represent, who they serve, where they are. Those are the core questions deeply inlaid in the bedrock of commercial design. ‘’It is fundamental to deeply understand the client in retail design. Understand the client, the brand and understand where they fit in.’’ To speak about dream projects is always fascinating. You never really expect the answer you’ll listen too. For Anne-Cécile, her dream project would be renovating a decrepit, old haunted house. Something with only the essentials, nested in the urban bosom of a big city. We finalized by asking Anne-Cécile if she could share with us just a tiny bit of what’s on her plate right now, and the inevitable ESA and the Menorca Island hotel were on the tip of her tongue. These two projects are spiking the curious minds of the design lovers scattered all over the world (ours included), and we ended with tremendous expectations towards them.

EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW WITH Carlo Donati The Italian studio’s work is mostly focused on different types of interior design projects that highlight the power of fine craftsmanship techniques. Surrounded with one of the world’s best craftsmanship cultures, this brand-new furniture collection with Essential Home was the perfect opportunity to combine two of his many passions: craftsmanship and a modern approach of the mid-century style. As you know, Italy is one of the most important design capitals in today’s industry, thanks to its rich history and beautiful architectural landmarks. Hosting some of the best interior design events, the beautiful city of Milan is also the hometown of some of the world’s top interior designers, such as the Italian legend, Carlo Donati. Most of his design projects have been published in the international press, such as the most influential interior design magazines and books of architecture in Italy and all over the world. Whether it is residential design, villa or even commercial projects, the Italian design studio has become one of the most renowned experts not only in Italy but also worldwide.
Its founder Carlo Donati
was born in Zibello (Parma) in 1965 and studied architecture at the Politecnico of Milan where he graduated in 1992. Passionate about the world of design and all of its creative possibilities, Carlo has featured a strong aesthetic and sense of beauty from a young age. “Memories of details in my friends’ houses or in hotels during family vacations have monopolized my imagination since early childhood. Since then, beauty to me represented a matter of proportions, colours and details”, he explained. During his twenties, the Italian designer started working for historic architectural firms in Milan, such as Studio BBPR and Gregotti. A few years later, in 1995, Carlo Donati moved to New York to be the consultant architect of one of the most famous luxury design groups in the world, also known as Versace. “Though his style was different from mine and rather decorative, I found his creativity and taste for colours very inspiring.” During that time, the Italian interior designer was challenged with the renovation of Gianni Versace’s townhouse and the historic Vanderbilt Mansion, the main flagship store on Fifth Avenue. After working as a consultant for Gianni Versace, the Italian firm worked on the image or other distinguished brands, like Aldo Coppola, Liberty of London, Linea più- A2A, Stybiella and Colefax & Fowler. Currently, the Studio Donati is the responsibility of the artistic direction of the Slowear fashion brand and they are developing the new retail concept and design of several stores and showrooms not only across Italy but also worldwide.

With a career filled with some of the world’s most inspiring designs, Carlo shares special care for two of his projects. “I think the projects that are most representative of our work are the villa LA modern and Loft A.” The first one is a brand-new construction that perfectly illustrates their sense of proportions, careful choices of the materials, use of light, a revisited modernist approach. As for the Loft A design, this was an 800 sqm renovation that is still very innovative both for the use of materials and for the interpretation of the layout. The Italian design studio is currently working on a new residential building with luxury apartments and utilities in Milan downtown. “I believe it’s important to be very updated on the actual trends of the industry but at the same time to be able to work on different tracks out of the mainstream in order to anticipate new trends, be original and try in our little field to be some

A CAPE TOWN WONDERLAND FEATURING MAGICAL FURNITURE Le Grand Jardin is a private estate in the heart of the historic Stellenbosch (est 1679 Wineland). It is the signature residence of Wonderland Escapes and it’s 50 km away from the city of Cape Town. Le Grand Jardin was a wedding gift for the daughter of the neighbouring estate and was designed by a student of Sir Herbert Baker the most notable architect working in South Africa in the 1900s. This incredible project features a kid’s bedroom made to enhance their creative minds. Featuring Rocky Rocket Armchair from Magical Furniture Brand CIRCU the decoration makes a grand entrance in the room and promises to let kids explore their imagination and take them to the moon. Rooted in enchanting environments from the Cape and Argentinean Winelands to the Swiss Alps and Africa’s pristine southern coastline it offers a sense of space and wonder, where bold mountain peaks of the Helderberg in the heart of the colour changing vineyards, gentle rolling waves, secret gardens, glistening bodies of water and golden sunsets are gifts we delight in sharing. SUSTAINABILITY MEETS LUXURY IN THIS SPRAWLING RESIDENCE In the sprawling sights of Jubilee Hills, India lies a private residence evolved from the creative minds of architectural firm NA Architects. The interior design project was conceived as a gallery-typed space, which involved not only creating clear open areas but also inviting the light in, particularly from above. NR House became to be the perfect marriage for Boca do Lobo statement-furniture. CovetED is here to present you this amazing projects, that combines sustainable design with luxury furniture. “We being architects the main goal was to achieve sustainability with luxury. We wanted to change the concept of sustainability being simple and rustic. We wanted to show the world that sustainable homes can be luxurious. Being our own home, we wanted to experiment with the concept of our home.” – NA Architects, about NR House, which is the home of Niroop and Rupana Reddy, the architect and interior designer respectively, behind this private residence. An organic palette, semi-precious and natural stone accents, sprawling water features and design embedded structured ceilings are the highlight features of this luxury and sustainable residence. Carefully placed clerestory windows wash the interior with natural light and provide framed glimpses of the canopy of pines on the slopes above the property, which also helped determine the section of the undulating ceiling. The house keeps the constant need for an unfettered flow of light and air, adequate cross-ventilation and views from each of the rooms to the surrounding greenery.
NA Architects first objective was to try to maximize the perception of space and the company managed to guarantee that by creating generous outdoor covered spaces, which make it feel as if the interiors spill outwards. The interior finishes contrast raw, expressive concrete on the soffit. The natural materiality emphasizes the architecture as an extension of the landscape, while the Micheal Angelo marble towards the back of the living area accentuates the illusion of depth, further enhancing the sense of space. A 20 feet high main door is the focal point of this interior design project and marks the entry of the house. The imposing entrance door is sided with 20 feet single glass opening and Monolithic stoneclad wall that adds a singular statement design to the experience of entering into the private residence.

RESTAURANTS WE COVET
THE WORLD’S FINEST LUXURY RESTAURANTS In this issue, CovetED featured the cuisine of the world. We present you some of the best Michelin starred restaurants, where sea flavours meet fine dining.
GASTRONĂ“MICO FORTALEZA Guincho, Portugal THE INSPIRATION THAT COME S FROM THE SEA The French-inspired cuisine and school, which had placed the Fortaleza do Guincho restaurant, on the world map of gastronomy gave way, surprisingly, to a young Portuguese chef, Gil Fernandes the youngest Portuguese chef in a Michelin star restaurant. CovetED had the pleasure of meeting the chef and to taste the contemporary served in this coveted restaurant in the Guincho road. Acclaimed Chef Antoine Westermann introduced in 1998 a French fine dining restaurant concept, which quickly became a reference in Portugal. Originally with a classic French concept, since summer 2015, the Portuguese products and traditions have been gaining prominence at Fortaleza do G u i n c h o . OCEAN RESTAURANT Porches, Portugal With spectacular Atlantic views, Ocean offers the perfect combination of sublime food, seamless service and an atmosphere of casual elegance, and has held two Michelin stars since 2011 – a tribute to Hans Neuner and his team. The decor, based on a palette of blue and golden shades is the reflection of peaceful seaside scenery, and the magnificent corals which fill up one of its sidewalls, as well as the Murano crystals resembling medusas by the entrance, are a clear clue to the inspiration behind Ocean’s philosophy. CovetED had the pleasure of visiting Ocean Restaurant for the second time to meet the new executive Menu by the Chef. Entitled “Discovering Portugal”, the executive Menu promises to bring a new definition to the Portuguese traditional flavours. Leading the kitchen since 2007 is Austrian-born Hans Neuner, Portugal’s Chef of the Year in 2009 and 2012. By his side, a dedicated and talented team that helps to develop the remarkable gastronomic creations based on the best local ingredients and products that make up its seasonal menus. of around 900 national and international references, carefully selected by Sommelier Ricardo Rodrigues, that constitute one of the largest private vintage wines collection in the Iberian Peninsula. “Chef of the Year”, in 2019, Hans Neuner, responsible for the Ocean restaurant, of the Algarve resort Vila Vita Parc, presents this summer a tasting menu inspired by “typical Portuguese recipes collected from the south to the north of the country”. It is an invitation to “discover Portugal”, the award-winning cook, born in the mountains of Tyrol, assumes. It is one of the most international restaurants in the Algarve thanks to the awards and distinctions accumulated over the years. At this moment, Ocean boasts two Michelin stars, renewed the Platinum Fork, in the 2020 edition of the Boa Cama Boa Mesa guide, and Hans Neuner, who leads the kitchen, distinguished as “Chef of the Year”, in 2019. Born in the mountains of Tirol, moved to the Algarve in 2007 to lead the gastronomic project of the Vila Vita Parc resort. Two years later, the Ocean restaurant won the first Michelin star and, in 2011, received the second, which it maintains today. “From a personal and creative point of view, Hans Neuner learned to know, first, the Algarve, and then, the whole national territory, learning and absorbing everything about Portuguese products and gastronomy. This knowledge began to play a major role in his cuisine, which already worked with the Algarve’s fish and seafood splendidly. The evolution is notorious, as well as the confidence in daring and, often, being disruptive in the approaches. Today, each dish is a work of art, with humour and public warning messages, for example, for the protection of the oceans ”, read in the guide Boa Cama Boa Mesa, justifying the title of“ Chef of the Year ”, in 2019. Throughout the winter season and the obligatory closure of restaurants, Hans Neuner took the opportunity to perfect the new menu for the summer season and, at the same time, transform the menu into a public compliment to Portuguese cuisine. Since the 1st of July, the “Descobrindo Portugal” menu arrives at the Ocean table, described as “a refreshing experience of typical Portuguese flavours, ingredients and recipes collected from the south to the north of the country, continuous evidence of the wealth and essence of Portuguese gastronomy ”. In this menu, each dish is a unique step with the influence of specific regions, “either through the reinterpretation of a typical ingredient, traditional recipe or even a harmonious encounter between these various Portuguese elements”. The selection of wines, with more than 900 references, is the responsibility of sommelier Ricardo Rodrigues, who pays special attention to the “unique and exclusive findings of small producers and small productions, both national and international”.

STYLE ICONS
WHEN HAUTE COUTURE MEETS INTERIOR DESIGN A strong and undeniable link between runway fashion and interior design has always existed but in recent years the two have fused to a point where the one has a significant influence over the other. Fashion is not just about the clothes we wear or the outfits we put together, it dominates much of our day to day lives from the homes we live into the offices we work in and the cars we drive: Everything is governed by fashion trends.
