Dear Learner, Wow, what a year! Welcome to 2022! While the pandemic has changed the way we work, it has not changed the core work that we continue to provide to you and your team. We are able to provide all of your learning and development needs in a safe virtual environment. Before the pandemic, many of our learners had very little or no experience with eLearning. I would like to commend all of you for growing in this space and stretching yourself just a little more. What we know for sure is that your development is of critical importance even more during these times. We encourage you to continue to grow on your learning journey. Our 2022 course catalog contains an overview of each of our professional development opportunities to allow you to select the choice that best fit YOUR needs. All of our learning experiences are designed to provide you with highly engaging challenges to enhance core workplace skills and strengthen operational knowledge and performance. Learning and Organization Development is excited to start this journey with you and assist you along the way, while taking your learning to the next level!

First steps. 1. Evaluate

Take a moment to think about your current career path. Where do you want your path to lead? Reflect on the skills and knowledge you need to reach your goals.

2. Reflection

What skills/knowledge do I already possess? Where do I see myself in five years? What skills/knowledge will I need to be effective in future roles?

3. Make a Commitment

The time is now! Goal commitment is the key to success. Now that you’ve identified skill and knowledge areas, schedule your learning goals to grow and strengthen your skills.

4. Accountability! Take Action

Explore this catalog and choose the courses and/or programs that are right for you. When you’re ready, see page 7 to register and enroll.

How to register! Course registration links can be found in the Professional & Technology Development sections of this catalog. You can also find our 2022 Course Schedule and registration links on the Duke Learning & Organization Development website:

www.hr.duke.edu/training/course-offerings It’s important to understand how to use Duke’s Learning Management System - Saba. The Duke Learning Management System (LMS) is a tool that Duke uses to manage employee training. Employees can use the Duke LMS to determine learning needs or requirements, register for courses, launch online content, and view and maintain a transcript. Some of L&OD’s virtual courses will require participants to access and pass a knowledge assessment at the end of the session in order to receive Continuing Education Credit (CEUs). Course facilitators and moderators will provide instructions on how to access these assessments in Duke's LMS at the end of each training session. Upon successful completion of the course, participants will receive a digital certificate of completion, sent within 7-10 calendar days of attending class.

Getting Started | 7

Wait-List

If at registration a class is closed due to max capacity, L&OD strongly recommends that you contact us to be added to the wait-list. • If someone drops the class, individuals on the wait-list will be offered the seat in the order in which they registered. The wait-listed person can accept or decline the offer online via email. If they decline, the next person on the wait-list will then be contacted. • When there are enough participants on a wait-list, we do our best to schedule another class as soon as possible. Those individuals will be invited to participate in the new offering before it is opened to everyone.

Payment Information

During registration, you will be asked to provide payment information. If your department/unit will be paying for you to attend the class, you can provide your department’s cost object number (a.k.a. fund code). NOTE: If after registration you need to change your method of payment, please send an email to hr-lod-registration@ duke.edu.

If you will be using personal funds for payment, a personal check or money order can be made out to “Duke Learning and Organization Development.” Please mail checks or money orders to: Duke Learning & Organization Development 402 Oregon Street Suite 101 Durham, NC 27708 Payment can also be dropped off at our office located at: 402 Oregon Street no later than five business days before the offering date. If a method of payment is not provided prior to the start of the course, the employee’s default department fund code will automatically be charged.

***We cannot accept cash or credit/debit card payments.***

8 | Leadership and Professional Development Opportunities

Drop/Cancellation and No-Show Policy

The drop period closes three business days before the course date; therefore, if you can no longer attend the registered offering, you must drop the course in the LMS at least four business days before the offering date to avoid a late cancellation fee. For example: If your class is on Wednesday the 17th, the drop period closes on Friday the 12th, making Thursday the 11th the last day that you can drop the course without penalty. Remember to account for any official Duke holidays, and be careful with transitions from one month to the next when figuring out your last drop day. If you do not drop your course before the drop deadline, the course fee will be charged. Emergency drop and cancellation after the drop deadline is at the discretion of L&OD.

Continuing Education Units (CEU)

You can obtain Continuing Education Unit (CEU) credits for most Learning and Organization Development courses by meeting the following requirements: • Sign the roster at the beginning of in-person sessions. • Attend 90% of the virtual or in-person session. • Engage fully in classroom activities and satisfactorily complete assignments. • Complete the knowledge assessment and course evaluation at the end of the session. Participants are not required to use, bring, or provide any special materials or technological devices for participation in or completion of classroom activities, unless otherwise notified prior to the session. A participant will not receive CEU credit for the course if they fail to sign in, do not attend at least 90% of the class and/or fail to complete the knowledge check. Each participant will receive a printed certificate at the conclusion of the class after successful completion. After the instructor has marked attendance in the LMS, participants can print an LMS transcript showing all course completions. To download instructions on how to retrieve your transcript, click here.

WHO’s WHO? Meet your facilitators!

Keisha Williams

AVP LEARNING & ORGANIZATION DEVELOPMENT

Why is it important to have a learning structure in place at an organization? Learning is an investment that should be made for everyone regardless of position, title, or advancement. In Duke Learning and Organization Development we created a staircase of learning that offers educational opportunities to our workforce at all levels. Offering this structure is important to create consistency in the way we grow our employees and allows everyone to have freedom and see the ability to grow in their own journey of learning.

How do you know what learning is needed for the organization? We perform a needs assessment to query what employees feel are their gaps or where they need development. We also query supervisors, managers and senior leaders to better understand what is needed in today’s workforce. To further support our assessment, we take a look across our peer institutions to see what’s trending for skill sets needed for our future workforce. All of the data is pulled together to assist in the development, design, and deployment of our learning modules annually.

Best advice that you would give to someone looking to explore learning opportunities? Become comfortable seeking developmental feedback. Know that you will always be the leader of your own learning journey, do not look for others to designate a map for you. Be intentional about what you are building for, i.e. skill gaps, performance, behavior, etc. Have conversations with your supervisor/manager regarding your professional development and opportunities to stretch and grow in your learning journey.

How has Crucial Accountability training positively impacted individuals who are currently in remote work environments? The newly branded course, CC®: For Mastering Accountability provides management with the tools necessary to build trust amongst team members, address conflict and recognize that holding others accountable is healthy. It equips leaders with simple, effective tools to address tough problems and move to resolution. It also reduces stress levels at this very difficult time as we deal with the pandemic, which results in happier employees, and improves relationships among teammates.

Why is Guide to Managing at Duke and Guide to Managing at Duke PLUS an important need for Duke managers and supervisors in the virtual environment? As we continue to navigate the pandemic, both Guide to Managing at Duke and Guide to Managing at Duke PLUS programs are especially valuable because of their focus on the human side of the manager-employee relationship. Guide to Managing at Duke is a three-day (half days) virtual program that sharpens managerial skills on mindfulness and the ability to be present and available to employees. It also exposes managers to valuable resources and supportive services such as Healthy Duke, and Staff & Labor Relations. The program is designed to take managers through all of the steps of management from recruiting, hiring, onboarding, and evaluating performance, while providing a positive work culture that values diversity, helps manage change, and uses coaching for development. Guide to Managing at Duke PLUS is a full two-day program, offered over the course of two weeks and is designed to address more advanced management responsibilities. By the end of the program, managers are equipped with beneficial resources such as employee engagement, expectations of conduct and performance, work rules, documentation, discrimination and harassment, as well as the practice of just culture. At a time when many managers are feeling the pressure of increased workloads due to the pandemic, both programs provide a collection of new tools, resources to draw from during such a critical time. For many who feel isolated, the programs also foster networking and connectivity. 30 | Leadership and Professional Development Opportunities

WHO’s WHO? Meet your facilitators! Abaina Farrell, M.A. SR. INSTRUCTIONAL DESIGNER

What impact did the pandemic have on traditional learning and development? What changes did Learning & Organization Development make to meet the needs of the Duke community in a remote/hybrid environment? The pandemic has left its mark on every aspect of our work; it has impacted our way of life, our daily commutes and the ways that we work, communicate and learn. It was important for L&OD to remain present and quickly adapt to change while introducing new ways of learning to the Duke community that stemmed beyond the classroom. New work protocols forced us to create innovative measures and strategies that supported and encouraged learning and professional development during times of high stress and change. The biggest impact was redesigning classroom learning to fit a variety of virtual training options, to include asynchronous (self-paced) learning, blended learning and virtual instructor-led learning. In the redevelopment of our classroom content, we established ways to engage colleagues remotely through already existing software like Cisco WebEx, Zoom and Microsoft Teams which were all available from Duke OIT. With the need for connectivity, resilience and virtual team management at an all-time high, we noticed early on that the enterprise would benefit from simultaneously learning about the changes that they were facing while in transition to a remote environment. We developed and delivered virtual content on several topics to include, “Communicating in Times of Crisis”, “Managing Virtual Teams”, “Reducing Stress” and “Thriving through Times of Uncertainty.” The courses were designed with several points of interactivity throughout to encourage collaboration, networking and self-reflection through anonymous annotations, chat, independent work study, and self-paced pre-learning activities. With much of our Duke community still remote, accessibility is of utmost importance; therefore, in 2022, we will offer 64 professional development offerings; three of those offerings will be in-person and we would take a hybrid approach with our cohort-based programs designed for leadership. We are also on schedule to virtually deliver 41 technology development offerings. Our current virtual learning catalog consists of 30 professional development and 16 technology development unique courses with content for individual contributors, first-time managers, middle-management and senior leadership. 32 | Leadership and Professional Development Opportunities

New Hire Orientation is now virtual, what is new and why is it important? As our Duke community expands more and more outside of the perimeters of main campus, it is important to provide a singular orientation experience that is inclusive of all of our new colleagues. New Hire Orientation allows new employees to network and find grounding in Duke’s mission and values while they are beginning a new role in a new organization. To accomplish this, University New Hire Orientation is a virtual two-part series consisting of one live session and a self-paced module on the Learning Management System, SABA. Overall, participants can expect to receive an overview of Duke, insights into the onboarding process and valuable resources to create a formidable foundation to what we hope is the beginning of a long and fulfilling career at Duke.

What has been the importance of High Performing Teams in our current work environment? What is a High Performing Team and how can one possibly exist right now? This is something asked many times throughout the quick transition to virtual and hybrid work within a system of heightened social, political and wellness chaos happening in and outside of the organization. It can feel impossible to do the minimum, much less exceed. Even within the upheaval we’ve experienced recently, it is the opportunity to reflect upon current connectedness to the greater mission and purpose to our work and each other to develop stronger and more High Performing Teams. The importance of High Performing Teams is not solely on exceeding expectations. The importance lies in how High Performing Teams are rooted in respect, diversity and a shared mission and values. It is being an active observer and participant of these components within the team development continuum. The results will follow and lead us in the complex and meaningful work of our Duke Community.

What does it mean for L&OD to be IACET accredited and why is it important to our learners? How does it impact the quality of L&OD's programming? The International Accreditors for Continuing Education and Training (IACET) is a governing body of Continuing Education Units (CEUs) to improve the quality of continuing education and training to advance the global workforce. While there are other sources that offer CEUs, only IACET CEUs are certified by the IACET Standard created from extensive research on adult learning, a nationwide network of continuing education network of experts and a framework that ensures superior learning experiences. Being accredited by IACET means Duke is maintaining these rigorous standards for the analysis, design, development, implementation and evaluation of all our content offering IACET CEUs. It certifies our commitment to high-quality, effective and valuable continuing education and training. 34 | Leadership and Professional Development Opportunities

Leadership & Management Development

The single biggest way to impact an organization is to focus on leadership development. There is almost no limit to the potential of an organization that recruits good people, raises them up as leaders and continually develops them. – JOHN C. MAXWELL, author of The 21 Irrefutable Laws of Leadership

WHO’s WHO? Meet your facilitators! Joy Birmingham ASSISTANT DIRECTOR OF LEADERSHIP & PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT

What are the challenges that most managers are facing in our current environment? Many managers have had to reconsider the false notion that if they cannot see their employee doing his or her job in the next cubicle or office, then the employee is not working. This is a "parental" model of management, where the manager is needed to ensure compliance with the rules, validate work hours and to be certain employees do what they are paid to do. Unfortunately, compliance rather than commitment is all they will achieve. The management model that is needed in this environment is one of partnership. The manager must intentionally show their employees respect by extending unconditional positive regard. Essentially, this means empathy invokes change. We are all wired with the need to fulfill our potential. Providing unconditional positive regard as a manager means validating your employee's feelings, withholding judgment and offering support. From such a partnership, managers will reap both competence and commitment from all the people in their care.

What resources does L&OD provide for our managers and leaders? If you google "how to provide feedback" you will get thousands of documents. If you google "how to receive feedback" you get very few. We don't teach employees how to receive feedback, so it becomes a precarious experience for everyone involved. In today's environment, everyone is experiencing isolation, exhaustion, and for some, real burnout. This is hard to address in any environment, but trying to create some form of bonding and teamwork via Zoom is even more challenging. This is why L&OD is offering two new courses for leaders, Feedback Fundamentals and Managing a Hybrid Team, which address two of the biggest challenges managers face today. Performance Coaching, Navigating Challenging Personalities, Microsoft Word & Excel, Project Management, Resilience and Crucial Conversations are just a few of more than 100+ courses for professional development offered by L&OD. Also, our management and leadership academies are year-long blended programs designed to develop leaders over time. Strategic planning, team building retreats or division wide workshops are additional services L&OD can provide. We are not only a support system for managers and leaders, we can be your lifeline!

WHO’s WHO? Meet your facilitators! Gina Rogers, M. Ed. ASSISTANT DIRECTOR OF ORGANIZATION & WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT

What is Organization Development and how can L&OD Consulting Services serve departments and teams? According to the Association for Talent Development, “Organization development (OD) is an effort that focuses on improving an organization's capability through alignment of strategy, structure, management processes, people, rewards, and metrics. Organizational culture encompasses the values and behaviors that contribute to the social and psychological environment of a business. Understanding an organization's culture, its norms, formal and informal relationships, power dynamics, and hierarchies informs the planning of initiatives to develop systems, structures, and processes to improve effectiveness.” (www.td.org) By leveraging the five phases of OD: Entry, Diagnosis, Feedback, Solution and Evaluation, Consulting Services work with departments to identify challenges that influence organizational performance as it relates to, for example, change, culture, employee development and engagement, informational systems, leadership and management development, team building, development and socialization, job/task management, strategic planning and succession management.

When should Organization Development be considered versus other professional development options? Consider Organization Development initiatives when all members of a larger system would benefit from or are impacted by planned and unplanned human process, human resource management, technostructural, and strategic shifts.

What is your philosophy on who's leading the organization? My personal philosophy is that we all are! Every layer in a structure should own a leadership role in the organization. For me, it’s the difference between occupying and owning. When we occupy, the immediate is our primary concern and focus. It’s short-term in nature and mindset. Owning, on the other hand, connotes long-term. The mindset and focus is that of stability, investment and belonging. Ownership signals that while there are levels, each level contributes significantly. This is the invitation that I believe organizations should extend from front-line staff through to executive level staff: you belong here, your investment is valued, and your contributions provide stability for the whole. 46 | Leadership and Professional Development Opportunities

WHO’s WHO Meet your facilitators Srini Iyengar

SENIOR TECHNOLOGY PARTNER

What is technology's importance in blended/hybrid work environments? While most people think of technology as hardware for communication, such as cell phones and technical devices/machines in the workplace, or even transportation, one of the most critical pieces of technology is desktop software in the everyday workplace. Performing day to day tasks, requires a fair amount of in-depth knowledge and proficiency of desktop software. In our current environment just the common use of Adobe products, or MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Access) proves to be of utmost importance in our day to day tasks. Producing complex and professional looking documents, complex and efficient spreadsheets/worksheets, powerful and meaningful presentations, or managing large amounts of data in a database and producing quick and meaningful reports, are some of the commonly performed tasks by many people in our environment. Proper techniques and knowledge in these areas not only allows you to perform these tasks efficiently, but in a world where there are many people who are already familiar with these products, the ones who are well versed and savvy in MS Office and other desktop software, will go on to achieve even higher positions and recognitions for their work. When one produces good and professional work consistently, and in a timely manner, they will earn the confidence of their peers and superiors, and will go on to achieve higher goals.

What has become most important in the technology space during the pandemic? During the pandemic, the ability to handle the workloads remotely is of utmost importance. Storing, organizing, and producing higher quality reports, documents and presentations, are key work elements in delivering the impact. But now, in addition to the challenges of conducting business remotely using virtual meeting practices. The knowledge and etiquette of multiple virtual meeting spaces such as MS Teams, WebEx and Zoom, becomes essential in meeting with team members and clients. Sometimes when you encounter difficulties with one system, your ability to shift and use an alternate piece of technology becomes crucial in keeping the business at hand going. Sometimes you have to put together 2 or 3 things together to get the result you want, and the ones who are technically savvy will achieve better results. Using software to keep track of all work matters and staying on track, in a home environment filled with distractions, is very important. Software can be used to prioritize and accomplish tasks in a timely manner, and producing good quality work puts you in a good position to gain trust with your team members and clients. Your team not only depends on the accuracy and quality of your work, but needs that confidence to stay focused on their own work. Understanding and improving your knowledge with computer software and technology improves your work environment, and doing your work efficiently only motivates others to do the same. 50 | Leadership and Professional Development Opportunities
