Are You Badging?
Duke employees who have attended and successfully completed an L&OD professional or technology development course, or cohort program can tell their professional story on popular social and professional networking sites, personal websites and in emails with digital badges powered by Canvas Credentials (formerly known as Badgr).
Canvas Credentials is a micro-credentialing software that allows Duke Learning & Organization Development to issue badges to learners who have completed specific courses and programs. This new standard for communicating achievements provides:
A web-enabled version of your badge(s)
An overview of the skills required to earn your badge(s)
A way for leadership to verify your achievement(s)
A secure means of storing and publishing your badge(s)
A place to manage your badge(s) (issued both internally and externally)
A pathway is sequence of badges that lead to a master badge of completion. When a learner is accepted into a specialized program, they will be subscribed to a pathway to track progress and look ahead to plan the next steps in the learning journey. Duke Learning & Organization Development offers master badges for the following pathways:
Communication Certificate of Excellence
HR Strategic Business Partner
Management & Leadership Certificate of Excellence
Self-Leadership Certificate of Excellence
Star Achievement Series®: CEAP Designation
Supervisory Certificate of Excellence
Technology Certificate of Excellence

Some of L&OD’s virtual classes will require participants to access and pass a knowledge assessment at the end of each class in order to receive Continuing Education Credit (CEUs). Course facilitators and moderators will provide instructions on how to access these assessments in Duke’s LMS at the end of each professional development course.
Upon successful completion of the course participants will receive a digital badge of completion, sent within 7-10 business days of attending the class.
