In cases in which a distinction could not be drawn between formal and informal wage employment due to lack of information about social security or health benefits, the separation of the two categories was dropped. The model accounts for individual characteristics such as age; age squared; gender (dummy variable); educational attainment (three dummies, with being illiterate as the reference group); marital status (equal to 1 if married and 0 otherwise); and geography (a dummy variable to account for urban/rural residency, that equals 1 if urban). The analysis also calculated 95 percent confidence intervals surrounding these probability simulations. 7. According to the International Labour Organization (ILO), high-skill occupations include managers, professionals, associate professionals, and technicians. Medium-skill occupations include clerical support workers; service and sales workers; skilled agricultural, forestry, and fishery workers; craft and related trades workers; and plant and machine operators and assemblers. Low-skill workers are those in elementary occupations such as selling goods in streets and public places, or from door to door; providing various street services; cleaning, washing, pressing; taking care of apartment houses, hotels, offices, and other buildings; and washing windows.
