WORLD BOOK DAY IS A CELEBRATION! It’s a celebration of authors, illustrators, books, bookshops and (most importantly) it’s a celebration of READING. In fact, it’s the biggest celebration of its kind, designated by UNESCO as a worldwide celebration of books and reading, and marked in over 100 countries all over the world. This is the 20th year there’s been a WORLD BOOK DAY, and on 2nd March 2017 children and young people of all ages will come together to appreciate reading. Very loudly and very happily. The main aim of WORLD BOOK DAY in the UK and Ireland is to encourage you to explore the wonderful world of books and bookshops and the many amazing places reading can take you, by providing you with the opportunity to have a book of your own. That’s why we have sent schools (including nurseries and secondary schools who have specially registered to participate), packs of book tokens and lots of ideas of how to get involved in WORLD BOOK DAY.
So, happy birthday to us, and happy reading to you all... 3

Booksellers who accept the £1* World Book Day Book Token bear the full cost of redeeming it. World Book Day, World Book Night and Quick Reads are annual initiatives designed to encourage everyone in the UK and Ireland – whatever your age – to read more and discover the joy of books and reading for pleasure. World Book Night is a celebration of books and reading for adults and teens on 23 April, which sees book gifting and celebrations in thousands of communities around the country: www.worldbooknight.org Quick Reads provides brilliant short new books by bestselling authors to engage adults in reading: www.quickreads.org.uk *€1.50 in Ireland
