Shelter from the winds
hayro lives in a make shift shelter cushioned from the wind by a large green mat and torn faded garments held together by rope. Inside is nothing but two metallic cups lying on their sides and an orange thermos flask tucked in one of the walls, which a relative uses to bring her tea. She fled to settle in Southern Somalia when some members of her family perished.

Fearing for her children’s lives, and her own - their journey begun. “I sent my son to a refugee camp (in Kenya), I was afraid he would be absorbed by militia. I never wanted my son to ever carry a gun, to join such kind of groups,” said Khayro. Her daughter would stay with her. “I couldn’t send her anywhere because she is a lady. She (her daughter) said she would be with me, if she is to die, she will die here with me.” At the time of the interview, Khayro was a first time World Concern food voucher recipient, quite a boost for her - each food ration comprises of 25kgs of rice, 10kgs of wheat flour, 10kgs of beans, 3kgs of sugar, 3 liters of cooking oil and 0.5kgs of salt - sufficient to last a household of six for two weeks.

God’s sake. It is brought by God. I am always praying to be patient,” adds Khayro.
3 large make shift settlements have come up in the last two months each with an average of 700 households, with a sharp influx at the Feeding centre and equally high numbers being hosted by relatives in the town.
